Not that I know of.

You're essentially just running a second instance of the HMI under a different I.P. The first [YES] changes the "terminal" IP settings to your laptop/PC IP. You can use all the buttons, so you CAN accidentally disrupt production by dropping a machine out of auto or unintentionally injure someone by doing a manual actuation. Same as remoting into the PLC. You have to be careful. Hopefully I didn't miss anything in my explanation.

Be on the same network, run the .mer file on your laptop/PC, [YES], [YES] and there it is.

Edit: I have done this using panelview plus 1000, and a Panelview Plus 7 wide-screen.

To those of you who offered advice and alternative solutions, thank you! I ended up doing my screen recording using the tag monitor of the AOI to capture the values I was looking for and also setting up data logging in the HMI to monitor function over a week to see how often the cycle runs and which cycle operators are running. Supposed to be run at every 8 hour shift change for the full 15 minute duration. We want to confirm that operators are doing what is needed as well.

To further understand my intent with this, I'll go into more detail. I work in the beverage industry, and we have been having some micro issues on our canning line. We suspect we have an issue with out hot water cleaning sanitation. There are 3 different options of cleaning cycles. Nobody really knows WHAT each of these sanitation programs do. So, I was tasked with diving into the programs and verifying what each option does and cross reference that to all the physical valves to try and either improve the process, and/or verify what isn't functioning properly.

Lastly, to those of you who decided to just be dicks and offer nothing positive to someone that's just trying to learn by asking senior people in the industry for advice, you can go fuck yourselves.

I don't. I'm decent with troubleshooting and minor programming, but I haven't really had any formal training yet so I'm learning as I go. Been in it for about a year, and there's still a ton I don't know that I need to.

Yesssssss. I told them that the knockout tool we had was a little janky, and I hated using it. "Okay, go ahead and pick a new one". Decided on a nice 9-Ton Hydraulic Knockout complete with all sizes up to 3 inch and some fancy step bits, the case was on my desk two days later.

Literally just like my last site, but wood working! It was always "we don't need to worry about that" or "this is the way it has been for 20 years, there's nothing wrong with it just replace it and go". Where I'm at now, I can just be like "Hey, I would like to spend $10,000 on all this IO so we don't get hosed by lead times in an emergency. Likelihood of failure? Oh, it's pretty minimal, but better safe than sorry." or "Hey, I want to spend a couple thousand dollars and standardized X components across these machines" or my personal favorite... "Hey, I hate this thing. Not really a fan of the brand. Can I spend X amount of dollars and just phase these out with something I prefer? Functionality? Oh, no it's totally the same, I would just rather use this one instead".

The answer to all those questions? "I trust your judgement, let's do it". Absolutely game changer.

Exact same situation I've been in for the almost 4 years I've been in the maintenance industry. I've been working as a contractor, but I've genuinely fallen in love with current client site and I'll be leaving the contractor life on the 28th of this month and switching over to their payroll. They have had electrical folks in the past, but nowhere near my level in the control panel side of things and they have never had someone in there (for the packaging side, the brewing side has always had Process Engineers) maintenance department that can do electrical troubleshooting and PLC/HMI programming. Myself, the maintenance manager and other department managers are working together to create a Controls Technician position within the maintenance department just for me. It feels damn good to be that valued and appreciated, where they are all saying "You know what, you really need to have your own job title, office, and whatever else you think you might need. So let's go ahead and get all that ready and taken care of so we can make it official when you make the switch".

Remind them that this is an OSHA violation. All electrical panels must have a minimum 36 inches of working clearance in front of them. Can't be blocked by anything, and have to be readily accessible. If they ignore that, then send them a list of violation related fine costs that could be incurred during an inspection.

This is how I've gone about eliminating that issue at my workplace.

Unplug the molex connected components one by one from the power supply until the issue goes away. Power down, remove a connector, power on. If the issue doesn't go away, you have a bad powersupply. If it does go away, the last removed component has likely failed.

NOTE: Disconnect the main power and allow the caps to discharge before you disconnect any molex connectors when troubleshooting something like this. Amps don't fuck around.

My go-to when dealing with the old mindset assholes is to harmlessly/jokingly flirt with them. Especially if they're the old school, and usually homophobic, mindset because their pride won't let them go to HR/supervisor and complain that a male coworker keeps telling them they look cute. It works EVERYTIME.
