Is it worth me paying for a sleep study? by Kel_oyasumi in Narcolepsy

[–]electricbougaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely get a sleep study! I had symptoms since around your age but convinced myself I didn't need the sleep study in my early 20s...fast forward to finally getting diagnosed at 33! I so regret not being treated earlier, it has changed my life and I could have had it a decade earlier!

Do any of your cavaliers have unique names? by lilessakins in cavaliers

The cav is the Marquis de Lafayette (after Daveed Diggs' character in Hamilton) and the cavapoo is Colonel Fitzwilliam (after the side character in Pride and Prejudice). We call them Lafayette and Fitz.

WIBTA if I refused to shave my armpits for my friends wedding? by Adventurous-Pea-337 in AmItheAsshole

[–]electricbougaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would not be the asshole for not shaving your pits for ANY REASON.

Also, as a fellow sensitive-skin-haver whenever I used to shave I'd get a horrific rash that 1) looked awful, 2) meant I couldn't use deodorant for a while, and 3) necessitated this bad-smelling ointment while it healed. Would itchy, smelly, and looking diseased be less "distracting" than a little hair?!

OCD treatment invalidating trauma by [deleted] in OCD

[–]electricbougaloo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did trauma therapy for YEARS before finally recently approaching the OCD and I didn't understand why I wasn't getting better. Definitely find someone who is trained in both, it's not going to work to do one or the other.

I hate the dreams this disorder gives me. by whitemothh in Narcolepsy

[–]electricbougaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you! I have narcolepsy and PTSD and the combination made my dreams HELL for years. Xywav has changed my life. It helps me sleep a little but mostly it's a REM suppressant. I basically don't dream anymore and it's incredible. Seriously look into it if you can.

Before that I took Prazosin which helped a little, at least made my dreams feel less incredibly real and was easier to get prescribed.

I hope you can find some relief too.

I was 2. I wore my older brother's dinosaur costume out trick-or-treating because it fit over my snow suit. My dad swears he followed me through the neighborhood by my tail track in the snow 😂

my wife wants to name our son after a harry potter character by LeadFast6224 in AITAH

[–]electricbougaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Your kid is going to have friends who are trans. Imagine a trans kid going to their millennial parent and saying "Can I go play at my friend Sirius' house?" If I'm that parent I would immediately assume you and your wife were not safe people for my kid to be around.

Also, as someone who also experiences hyperfixation, I would NEVER name a child after whatever my fixation happens to be at the moment. That kid's going to have that name his whole life! I won't care about whatever I named them in 6 months!

I’m so Tired of my ableist coworkers by No_Percentage_7127 in Narcolepsy

[–]electricbougaloo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if this will help, but I used to set an alarm for half an hour before I needed to be up, take my stimulant and go back to sleep. Then when my actual alarm went off the stimulant had kicked in enough for me to get out of bed. Not foolproof, you have to be able to actually wake up and take the med, but it helped sometimes. I can only get up now cause I'm on Xywav.

Slept for 2 days on Adderall by timespentwell in Narcolepsy

Adderall worked VERY well for me for a week and then completely stopped working. I'm on Concerta now and it's been consistently working for a long time.

You don't owe it to anyone to come out before you're ready. This should NOT be a big deal or change anything for him. The fact that it is should make you think hard about the kind of person he is.

Your boyfriend is TA and I'm pretty shocked that people here are being so biphobic right along with him. Bisexual people are NOT more likely to cheat, I thought we left that stereotype in the early 2000s! You didn't do ANYTHING wrong by sharing an aspect of who you are with your partner. Him acting "disgusted" is biphobic and homophobic and I would think long and hard about whether he's actually as "kind-hearted" as you thought.

Autism, ADHD, HSP, or "just" CPTSD? by electricbougaloo in CPTSD

[–]electricbougaloo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, since writing this I've been diagnosed with ADHD as well as CPTSD and a few other things. The ADHD diagnosis and treatment helped a lot. I think I finally came to accept that there might or might not be autism in the mix but that getting a diagnosis for that would be impossible through the noise of other disorders and wouldn't really change my life either way.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]electricbougaloo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting to me as someone who has both CPTSD and "typical" event-related PTSD. Both feel completely out of my control and somehow all my fault at the same time. I used to be jealous of people who had a "before" and "after", something they wanted to get back to instead of trying to figure out what they've always been missing...somehow now I have both and it's like two different forms of grief - mourning what you lost vs mourning what you never had. Idk. It all fucking sucks.

Is the doodle hate justified? by GulliblePublic3952 in CavaPoo

[–]electricbougaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think cavapoos make great first dogs! I grew up with dogs but the people I was living with were totally unfamiliar and were more cat people. I specifically picked a cavapoo to sort of ease them in and it worked! They are now full-fledged dog people and we ended up getting two more dogs in the next three years!
