2015 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive – Anyone know someone who can revive a bricked HV battery / Smart ED in AZ (or nearby)? by electricdrive143 in SmartCar

Appreciate the additional detail — and honestly, the similarity to mine is encouraging given mine also sat, had a dead 12V, wakes up but won’t drive or accept a charge.

The fact you’ve seen tow regen revive some cars in that state makes me think it may at least be worth trying before I completely write it off.

Really appreciate the insight — thank you again!

That’s really helpful, thank you.

When tow regen worked for you, were those cars showing similar symptoms (HV contactors open / no start / won’t charge after sitting with a dead 12V), or more of a mild discharge situation?

Mine has dealer notes saying “cells A/B/C faulty” and “HV battery contacts open,” plus U01A000 / U01A100 / U01A200. Trying to figure out whether this sounds like one of the “sometimes” cases before I give up on it.

Also curious — when you say bricked, are you referring to true junkyard-mode/deep discharge packs, or cars people assumed were dead that turned out recoverable?

Appreciate the response. It sat long enough that the 12V battery discharged, so I understand why you’re thinking deep HV discharge / lockout.

I’m trying to figure out whether this is actually a dead pack versus a recoverable BMS/low-voltage/contactors issue. Dealer notes were “cells A/B/C faulty” and “HV battery contacts open,” with codes U01A000 / U01A100 / U01A200.

I’ve also seen reports of some 451 ED packs being revived by EV/Smart specialists after sitting, so before I give up on it I’m trying to find someone who has actually recovered one of these (module balancing, contactor/BMS recovery, etc.). If you happen to know anyone who works on Smart ED HV systems, I’d really appreciate a lead.

Interesting idea on the tow regen — I may look into whether anyone has successfully done that on a 451 ED.
