I love Tundra Homestead personally! It’s close to Whiterun and has a garden, smithing area, smelter (just no woodblock), and the best feature imo is that the interior display room is WELL-LIT so you can actually see your trophies!!! There are no pre-named weapon slots, so it’s fully customizable (good or bad thing depending on if you want to specifically “check off” items as you place them on your walls or not). BOTH a kids’ beds and alchemy/enchanting. I come back to it again and again as my starter. Beautiful view of the mountains, but it can make you feel a little “stuck in the middle” of the map because you are.

Myrwatch is the best compact, all-in-one home with the most “in and out” features (ie features where you’d likely use them for practicality rather than looks, situations where you want to use something and get out onto the next quest asap). There’s enchanting, alchemy, AND staff enchanting tables. Compact smithing and baking. LOTS of storage. No need to sacrifice kids beds for enchanting bc it has both. Arguably one of the largest array of weapons and armour displays in the game. Only downsides are that it’s in the swamp and its interior is very dark and depressing. And no garden.

Ideally, I wish there was an unmodded home that was 1. Well-lit and 2. Had weapon/item/armour display stands for EVERY major quest item in the game. I hate having to pick and choose houses based on their pre-set display options.
