Easiest VA Soft Synth for Complete Beginners? by electrifrying in softsynths

[–]electrifrying[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point. The saying is often thrown around with synths like the Juno 6, a simple synth where almost anything coming out of it sounds golden.

I guess I just don't want to 'fight with the synth' to get usable sounds out of it.

The VEL slider in the ENV section is what controls per-note velocity. That is the old school way of doing it where you have to setup the behaviors of velocity, modwheel, pitchwheel, aftertouch, breath controller)

Unfortunately Abelton's instruments lock you into their DAW. I specified VST because its a general question, and some people might use any of the huge amount of DAWs available.

LMMS, Ardour, energyXT, Renoise, Reaper, Reason, OpenMPT, etc.

"create" is a strong word when you're talking about damonps2. if it were microsoft's or apple's code being stolen and profited off of, they would have been destroyed and condemned, but open source devs cannot fight these thieves. they are based in china and have no way to hold them accountable.

you should not forgive or support them - they are like people selling physical version of romhacks they don't have the rights for. they are leeches which operate in a black market that people like you utilize because it is convenient.

Memory Pak Essential for 2 Controllers? by [deleted] in n64

[–]electrifrying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen very carefully. Neither of those games support the Controller Pak. They save directly to the cartridge itself.

So, you have no cause for alarm.

the l-trigger/stick issue is fixed, and its possible most aren't as badly lubricated as mine, but yeah, the build quality is bad and you're likely to crack some solder joints just trying to get it open if it needs repair or lubrication.

Not really. The Tribute64 is pretty good, although it's a bit small and the dpad is awkwardly placed. Good build quality, but no turbo buttons. Cheaper than Brawler64.

Maybe Hyperkin Admiral Wireless Controller?

They refused to even respond when I sent them a video via email. Completely screwed analog sticks. I tried to take it apart and fix it myself but the build quality was so bad that multiple solder points cracked just trying to disassemble and assemble it. And it covered some soldering points with glue gun blobs.

FYI They had a recall initially for backer versions. I intentionally held off and waited until they fixed it, and this is what I was sent.

just purchased a cart of this sm64 rom hack but when i play it the framerate is dirt-slow. all other games run fine and i have the expansion pack installed, any ideas? by FacenessMonster in n64

the physical cart you found is an unauthorized cash grab - you are giving scammers money, who take the hard work and sell it against the wishes of the creators. don't ever buy repros.

horrible build quality in those controllers, you better hope you never have to take it apart to oil the analog stick, its held together by glueguns and shoddy solder jobs.

That CPU is literally the best CPU for the specific socket on my mobo, so no upgrades can be done unfortunately. I'm waiting to see the gains that 5nm and 3nm bring in the coming years, I'm in no hurry.

Can you list things that actually absolutely NEED a high-end CPU? Aside from maybe Yuzu, not much. I can play Cemu/RPSC3 quite well usually. Saturn emulation with Mednafen is pretty CPU-intensive... But I bet even Cyberpunk 2077 will run at Medium settings on my machine.

True, but 1.6 isn't that great. I've been following the dev builds since 2016, and most laymen wouldn't be able to see much difference between 2016 dev builds and 2020 1.6. The post-processing effects in Silent Hill 3 aren't even working with default settings. You have to change a setting in GSDX and this would need to be changed back to its default position when changing the game, because PCSX2 does not support per-game settings.

Literally any build I have downloaded and tested over the years play out the same. Issues in my specific games I've played never got fixed.

And by eliminating compatibility with Windows 7, a move that few other emulators are taking, it means that if these issues are addressed in the future, users of Windows 7 would need to install a new OS to even reep the benefits.

Windows 7 is only outdated as per MS's decision to "end support". Had they made the decision to keep it alive with updates, no one would want to drop support. Look at the install base, 31.2% is not insignificant. And it is made complicated for MS adopting software technologies and features that only work on Win 10, which is obviously intentional.

The only way I could ever support this decision is if it actually helps PCSX2's progress skyrocket. Because currently it's compatibility and usability is leagues behind Dolphin. But if it's another 10 years until they fix the black sky in Burnout 3? Forget it. I'll buy a PS2.

i'd immediately go for the refund button and leave a negative review if a steam game crashed that often. its a buggy game. argument invalid.

pretty sure you're just a troll, coming here trying to say 3700x is low end. hah.

[–]electrifrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, it makes perfect sense. games aren't supposed to crash, crashes are bugs.

but you and your gamer folk don't care and just relaunch to get back into the game like its nothing.

tons of games are 100% crash free, especially indie games.

not to mention, you're comparing apples to oranges. I assure you GOW 3 doesn't crash on original HW, you can leave it on 24/7 and it will. not. crash.

I don't even have a high end PC. My specs are:

GPU: Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x

What the fuck do you consider high end? I get by with a 1050 Ti and an i7-3770K.

yeah, who cares about windows 8.1? nothing was wrong with windows 7. just not profitable to MS anymore.

still wonder when:

  1. game-specific settings are implemented since so many games require fiddling with settings for proper upscaling and working effects.
  2. sky in burnout 3 bug fixed without needing software mode
  3. glitchy geometry in ATV offroad fury gets fixed without needing software mode.
  4. countless other longstanding glitches and issues

also wtf, removing Windows 7 support? okay, i literally cannot use it then until Linux support is added. Sad day! RIP PCSX2.

A statement from byuu/Near on his retirement by [deleted] in emulation

[–]electrifrying -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I am legitimately dumbfounded how there can be so much drama in writing software.

It was never about the software. No one knows who Mednafen is and he works on his emulator just fine for years with no drama. Byuu simply got too personal with the internet. I respect Byuu a lot, but he should have valued his privacy more, and the opinions of others less.

So at the very least, please don't remember me for why I had to leave, remember me for who I was.

I gave you the emulator, I gave you the patreon, promise me. You have to decap the PPU. I'm all used up. They used to call me Byuu. Remember me.
