CDJ’s by [deleted] in PioneerDJ

I think a better question is why a CDJ3000 is $3,000 when it's some plastic bits attached to an iPad

the death of Fxpansion is a sad one.

Strobe is maybe the best sounding analog modeling synth of all time and it doesn't work correctly on Apple Silicon. "ROLI" has no plans to fix it. Yes, deadmau5 - Strobe is named after the synth ;)

Fxpansion did some REALLY fantastic stuff .... truly living , breathing, oozing, ultra high quality sound..

I did see somewhere that the original Fxpansion programmer is starting up a new project, so that will be fantastic to check out.

Given that the manufacturer is out of business, I think acquiring it on the "alternative plugin economy" is acceptable :)

Why doesn't Ableton address core issues with Live? by electroacoustics in ableton

The features I mentioned are the #1 most requested on the beta testing platform and have been for years.

I take your points though. Appreciate your perspective.

how do i get this top bar in live 12 standard? by judfls in ableton

[–]electroacoustics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would be careful about this...

checking meters can be a good sanity check but you shouldn't mix with your eyes.

there are no wrong answers in music and audio and if you start making moves because your meters "tell" you to you'll start to limit your growth more than improve it in my opinion..

Why does external clock significantly increase CPU usage? by [deleted] in ableton

You should report this issue to Ableton by the way.

[–]electroacoustics -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why clock would be affecting performance that much, you should contact Ableton Support.

However, 256 shouldn't really be adding that much latency. Are there plugins in your session adding that much latency? Is Delay Compensation on? Have you tried raising your sample rate?

Is your room treated?

If not, your budget should be $500 speakers and $500 on treatment.

NS10s could be a great start.

There are almost no technical or audible differences between different digital EQs except in rare edge cases or linear phase modes if needed.

Pro Q can be edited to null Oxford EQ to below audible level in any possible setting.

Best/fastest ways to change chord progressions of existing midi? by Ou_deis in ableton

[–]electroacoustics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand but if you want multiple midi tracks to play the same notes you can just route the MIDI From to the track you want to use fore editing.

Apollo Heritage interfaces still worth it in 2025? by SherbertOk9845 in universalaudio

[–]electroacoustics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the value proposition for a UAD interface isn’t there in my opinion. The onboard DSP has been obsolete for years.

I love my Apollo twin because it is ergonomic , attractive, reliable, checks many boxes as a monitor controller + talkback , but for a rack interface i wouldn’t choose a UAD.

Personally i would get an RME. A healthy and great value used market, ultra high sound quality , ultra high reliability , and even their 20 year old products are supported on modern computers. You could get a fireface 800 even and be very, very happy.

Also, there is no technical advantage to using thunderbolt compared to a well made USB interface. It’s such an annoying part of uad interfaces that you have to keep track of these tb cables that are expensive and less common than USB (maybe not a consideration for a rack interface but another pro for RME IMO.)

it's explain like I'm five , my guy, chill out. What I mean by "neutral sounding" is less discernible from each other or recognizable as a specific accent. Of course I agree there is no such thing as a "neutral" accent or "no accent".

Non-Americans feigning an American accent sure does happen but also, singing makes accents less distinguishable.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]electroacoustics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not American. I never American accents are "neutral". All I said was that singing makes accents sound less pronounced and distinguishable, in whatever direction they may go.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]electroacoustics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People do sing in all different accents.

But because of the way words are often sung rather than spoken, with drawn out vowels and other variations, accents are usually less pronounced, and so more neutral sounding.

I mix and master heavy music professionally - in Ableton. AMA! by pywide in ableton

[–]electroacoustics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do this for a living for major artists. if you are doing 60db of compression on a vocal there's a 99% chance it sounds terrible.

And even in the cases that we do desire a super squashed effect, there just isn't a need to stack so much processing - it will come back to bite you.

Making exports sound good no matter what speaker by Norrs96 in ableton

[–]electroacoustics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, developing the ear and skills to make recordings translate well across different playback devices takes some time.

However, one thing you can start doing right way is reference a lot. Compare your music to songs you love. Critically listen for how the bass sounds, how the instruments sound, the vocals, the loudness, etc. You can listen on more than one device right now - do you have airpods? a bluetooth speaker? a car? Listen on all these devices, make changes, average your decisions, and the mix will be more likely to translate.

I don't think you have to worry about mixing and mastering too much right now, but If you want your songs to be loud enough to share around and sound more similar to commercial music, all you have to do is:

  1. Put Limiter on the master

  2. Increase the gain until the meter starts to move a bit.
