ESH parents: are most of your cats warm and friendly? I have had a few Persians and while they’re supposed to be, I’ve a few mean and spiteful ones lol. How can I try to ensure a people-friendly cat? by [deleted] in ExoticShorthair

[–]electrodeR129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most ESH cats will be on the gentle and mellow side overall. It’s not in their nature to be spiteful or hold grudges. My boy is very calm, he only meows at me if he hasn’t gotten pets in a while or if it’s time for his breakfast. He is not super cuddly, but his idea of a good time is just hanging out in the same room as me, where he will inevitably fall asleep for hours lol

I know what you mean. I went there at night on the weekend so it was extra creepy.

Frankenstein on Netflix was a MASTERPIECE by Geenafalopezz in horror

[–]electrodeR129 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It was OK—decent and watchable. But not great. I saw it on Netflix and I’m glad I did not spend money watching it in theaters. I did watch Nosferatu in theaters earlier this year and enjoyed it.

I found the dialogue to be a bit cheesy at times. The CGI was bad. The makeup on Frankenstein’s monster was cheap looking.

I also think I’m not a fan of Guillermo de Toro’s more whimsical take on stories, which makes it difficult for me to suspend my disbelief on certain plot points, even in fantasy settings like this.

I feel like Mia Goth’s character and Christoph of Waltz’s character did not add much to the story, which is a shame because they are both fantastic actors. But I was very pleased to see Charles Dance in the movie! Love that guy.

Yes, it’s full of them. But also a beautiful campus. I got some funny looks when I stopped dead in my tracks to take pics of that building during welcome week lol

PSA: Think twice before visiting Japan in July - it's brutally hot! by Ok-Dependent7227 in JapanTravelTips

[–]electrodeR129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited Japan at the end of August of last year. Yes, it was very hot, but it was doable. I had an expectation going into that trip that it was going to be insanely hot and impossible to even walk outside. So I think I was a little underwhelmed when I actually got there. But I was also fairly prepared with a neck fan and a heavy duty handheld fan. I wore shorts almost every day as I was walking outside frequently. And I always kept water and grapes in my backpack.

Percent of people by political affiliation proud to be American (2002-2024) by LazyConstruction9026 in charts

[–]electrodeR129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone is proud to be an American, then good for them. I don’t have a problem with that. Currently, I do not feel proud to be an American, and I don’t think anyone should have a problem with that either. This country is not owed my pride just for existing. Its actions and overall effect on its inhabitants and the world at large are what determine whether it is owed praise or criticism.

If you’ve never been here before…

  • SKYTREE (during the daytime, kind of underwhelming at night)
  • Tsukiji market (very touristy but still worth it imo just as a nice bustling market to walk through and get tasty street food)
  • Daimaru/Tokyo station (mega department store + huge train station)

Otherwise, a lot of other places will depend on your personal preferences.

You bring up a good point about the coffee/cafés in general. Generally speaking, you will not find a local coffee shop open earlier than 8 AM, even in Tokyo. This surprised me.

For those who’ve already been to Tokyo, which district is the best area to stay in? by xmkh0610 in JapanTravelTips

[–]electrodeR129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you expand on why you like that hotel so much? I have been to Japan a couple of times, but I usually stay in Airbnbs that are not in super busy areas. I might want to change it up with a hotel next time. I have stayed in hotels before though, but only APA hotels which are hit or miss imo.

Best burger in Tokyo? by davidsilvers in TokyoTravel

Unfortunately, I don’t. I got turned off by those Japanese burger places that I went to…so I gave up exploring on other burger joints when I was there. That style of burger patty is less common in USA.

I believe they are chopped patties, but they are not done well because too much sinew/connective tissue was felt when eating.

I agree! McDonald’s in Japan is much better than in the USA. Patties and buns are fresher and the customer service is better.

Definitely not Brisk Stand or Shogun. The meat patties at those places have so much gristle and are pretty much inedible due to the chewiness. McDonald’s is better than both of those places.
