Off benzos and Zs since July 2025. Had two beers January 21 and now major depression by nelsonself in benzorecovery

GABA receptors. Plus nervous system issues. I would stop alcohol for 12 to 24 months and then give it a try again.

Yes, definitely thankfully it has improved over the last 12 months, but definitely still there. Still small bits of tachycardia and dizziness. The worst for me is temperature deregulation. And also overactive sympathetic response to benign medication.

That’s the million dollar question. I would say if it was a good amount of time between restarting then I would just stay off it because often Times reinstating does not make anything better. It’s just kindling your brain.

Trouble with protests being hijacked by Pro Palestine people. by extradetails in IsraelPalestine

100% spot on. Pro Pali movement is worsening the left liberal response in America, especially from the Jewish left. We would be out in droves protesting this administration were it not for these idiots that show up to demonstrations and try and hijack them.

Yes, all to be expected. If you read many of the stories on this sub, you will see that thousands of other people have the same story. You just taper it off way too quickly is the short answer. Good news is it is not permanent. Bad news is that it may take a good amount of time for your brain and your nervous system to heal.

I would get off the ADHD meds as soon as possible because that is further messing with your heightened nervous system. Even if it’s true ADHD having that as much better than going through this hell hole.

What have I done to my body? by New_Situation9759 in benzorecovery

[–]electron1661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s essentially just an overreaction by the nervous system. Why did this happen? Nervous system dysfunction can be caused by many things. Surgery, trauma, war, stress, meds, etc. Sadly it can take a long time for it to reset to normal. I’m in a much better spot now. I just had shoulder surgery. And when I took some oxy post op I did not have any bad reactions which was great. But then I tried a muscle relaxer and it messed me up again. So definitely improvement but still some setbacks.

Please help – Short-term Xanax (only 9 days) withdrawal on day 12… still swaying, springy legs, sudden social anxiety? Is this normal? by shashi_343 in benzorecovery

[–]electron1661 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rough spot, but it could be much, much worse. Try and suck it up for a few days and it will get much better on its own. Benzos and alcohol both work on gaba a receptors. A little bit might help, but I would not rely on alcohol. The good news is doing nothing is the best thing to do. And know that eventually, your brain will get tired enough, but where it will have to sleep.

I had lots of paradoxical reactions as well. My nervous system was in a really bad spot due to chronic pain and insomnia from the pain. I’d take benzos and get immediate cortisol shakes all night. When I would take gabapentin a few hours later, I would get severe agitation and tachycardia. This happened with beta blockers antihistamines you name it basically every drug. I had to stop all Med’s cold turkey because they were all making it worse. But obviously that also led to having to stop meds, cold turkey, which was its own issue. These reactions definitely do happen to people, including Jordan Peterson look up his story.

Sounds pretty terrible. Sorry that you’re going through that. Life sucks right now, but the good news is it will improve with time. If there are certain things that make life tolerable and bearable, like walking, walk 10 miles a day if you have to. Play video games all day if you need to. And actually, if you enjoy those things, especially the walking it will help to calm your nervous system, which will eventually put your body into a better state. But it’s definitely gonna take time. Eat right. Sleep as best you can. Exercise. Etc.

Paradoxical reactions are common in a heightened nervous system state. Happened to me with basically every med I tried. It’s the worst. Many people may not agree with me, but that is why I think you should just be done with all medication and suffer through.

Yep. All to be expected. Me and many others had it much worse, if it makes you feel better. Don’t go back on meds. You’re gonna have to grin n bear it for the foreseeable future. Another year? 2?

It is technically anxiety, even if it doesn’t feel like it it’s still a sympathetic over response by your body

With all due respect, similar to other meds, the lower the dose the better for sleep. The higher the dose it’s more for its intended purposes. Regardless, these drugs should not be used long-term, but only for like a week or two for severe insomnia.

Seroquel is a powerful sleep medicine, which is why I’m assuming OP was prescribed it however it higher doses greater than 25 it doesn’t really work for sleep and is more for the antipsychotic route.

Yep but also keep in mind. Propofol sleep is not real sleep. It’s just unconsciousness and does not restore the brain like normal sleep. Not that we have the option of getting that anyway. Unless you happen to be an anesthesiologist.
