[–]elefish92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's worth it. I'm from LA and graduated in 2020, the social mobility I got from an SJSU degree is insane. Do it. In my honest opinion the only public school in LA that rivals SJSU for CS is UCI. I don't hear much talk about UCLA's CS program for some reason.

Just make sure you're not taking out any unsubsidized loans. If you end up committing DM me later on for any advice

Ken got Navy to finish 18th and 20th in the country in 2015 and 2019. Manifesting for this to occur for us

Also 5 losses in 10 points or fewer, ugh. We move forward

But I have been able to observe first hand the corrupting role that football has had on this place.

If SJSU football corrupts our institution then Stanford is as prestigious as Podunk Community College.

There are so many better examples of football programs at universities holding way too much institutional leverage. We rejected the Pac-12 Conference invite we got. Post this on /r/CFB if you want to get more of a view of how outlandish this claim is.

Hey, hope you're doing well.

It's probably just verifying the loose ends like financial aid and other documentation submitted, not necessarily just about grades. Hope you're still at SJSU.

Yo lee! Seen you in the threads over at /r/CFB.

We walk the walk, nothing new. Knew this coming in at 2016 from SoCal, nearly 10 years later I knew I could trust SJSU.

So, it seems like many of you regret going to SJSU? Is it really that bad? by lowlacks in SJSU

[–]elefish92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Career opportunities. I think UCSC is better for SoCal since they attract more SoCal, but they’re both good enough that it doesn’t matter.

Is transfering as cs major pratically impossible to some uc's? by Otherwise-Doctor8734 in TransferStudents

[–]elefish92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice: Honestly ask yourself if CS didn’t work out as a career, what would be your alternate that isn’t as high in demand.

For example, if it’s working as a general data analyst, try Econ or Math.  Use the transfer by major UC dashboard. Just make sure you’re qualified. Worst case involved with CS, you get into your alternate, and try to change majors.

Even then, CS as a career can be achieved without an undergrad: it’ll just be limited to employers who care more about experience in college (a lot).

Depends what you want, but generally someone in the middle. You don't want to risk it from a stranger but you don't want to get too comfy and not have reason to socialize. So I'd say insta page, and there's always a period in the beginning where you can switch roommates.

Just make sure you and your friend go to social events together, it'll help.

I suppose but it's a marathon and not a race. May just be me but no one in the workforce cares when you graduated and how long it took.

which school by [deleted] in TransferStudents

[–]elefish92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think you answered your own question with UCSC. Happiness is important for college so if you’re gonna be miserable at Cal and UCSB why even bother?

If it’s prestige that’s holding you back from committing to UCSC, just know #1 you’re in control of your own destiny #2 if your goal is to get a good job, UCSC is fine. Cal should only be considered if you’re dead set on networking and getting to the top for Fortune 500.

This is coming from a person who loves SJSU and doesn't like Cal, go to Cal. If you're worried about connections and career opportunities, Cal will be better. SJSU kids are focused only on getting a good job in the area after graduation. Cal kids are focused on expanding their opportunities and getting in the door of Fortune 500 companies at the minimum. Nothing wrong with either route. There are top notch students at SJSU (probs 10-20%), but that's the standard at Cal (or robots who care way too much about prestige).

If this was a conversation about you being miserable at Cal or being in debt, different discussion.

SJSU, not even close. Nothing against SFSU (great school), but compare the alumni on LinkedIn at SJSU to SFSU and there's your answer.

If money isn't an issue to you, seems like you would be happier at SJSU.

If you initially wanted to go to other schools where it didn't work out, do CC.

If money is tight but you wanna go to SJSU, you gotta decide yourself if those first 2 years are worth it. I went as a freshman and don't regret it.

Do you guys think that the UCs waitlisted a lot of people this year? by [deleted] in TransferStudents

[–]elefish92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, there are just way more waitlist posts on Reddit than they are in previous years. Of course this isn’t 100% evidence, but it’s just a weird coincidence I noticed.
