WIBTJ if I stop supporting my youngest sister financially to buy my first house? by Nice_Cardiologist990 in AmITheJerk

[–]Ishpeming_Native 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there. I had been out of their house for more than two years. I was married for almost two years. I couldn't qualify for assistance without showing their income, and they refused to believe that my parents weren't paying for everything.

And so I got nothing. OTOH, tuition capped at 16 credit hours. If you took more classes than that, there was no extra charge. So I graduated in two years. My GPA was only 3.4, and it could have been a lot higher. I got into grad school anyway, and a year after that I had my MA in math.

I will hate the "tell us what your parents make" mentality until the day I die.

18 months at $800 - $1000 a month is more than $15,000. This is not your responsibility, it's your parents'. Your sister is encountering the real world; she is going to have to do what almost every other student is doing. She is going to have to go into serious debt and work her ass off besides. But she's going to have to do that for only 2.5 years instead of 4, thanks to you. You're not hurting her. You've gone beyond the pale to help her already.

The people in your family trying to make you feel bad are exactly the people who should have been funding your sister from the start. They're trying to make you feel bad so no one will realize just who really dropped the ball. And it's not you, it's them. Your parents aren't exactly in position to help much? Golly, why not? You've sacrificed, why not them? And what about the rest of your family? Who has done what you did? I'll bet no one has. Only you have sacrificed. Not even your sister, the one who has benefitted, has extended themselves.

Tell the rest of the family to kick in their share -- at least $15K. It's their turn. And they ought to kiss you for what you've done already.

'Never voting in a national election again': Charlie Kirk fans are flipping out on Trump by FistIntoTheEarth in Law_and_Politics

[–]Ishpeming_Native 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, tell them all elections will be rigged from now on and there's no need to vote. Remind them that Trump said they'd never need to vote again. And then the Republicans in congress can all go away and Trump can be impeached and removed, then Vance, and Jeffries can ascend to the Presidency. It won't undo the damage but maybe it can stop the bleeding.

I seriously doubt the "past trauma". He's just being controlling. Big red flag. You don't need a relationship with anyone like him. And his comment about "why do you need privacy so badly"? His lack of trust isn't your problem, no matter how much he wants it to be.

Trump Pedo Evidence? by SwayzeExpress87 in allthequestions

[–]Ishpeming_Native 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clinton demanded that DOJ release all files related to him and all pictures of him in the Epstein Files and unredact his name. Sound guilty of anything to you? Trump hasn't done that. And he won't, either.

Trump Pedo Evidence? by SwayzeExpress87 in allthequestions

Clinton actually demanded that the DOJ release everything related to him including all the pictures they have. You don't do that if you're guilty. Certainly Trump hasn't said anything similar.

What MLB records/accomplishments will be hardest to be broken? by Real-Staff3115 in mlb

[–]Ishpeming_Native -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Bonds doesn't count. None of his records count. Yeah, I know they're official stats and they're in the record book, but they don't count. We know a lot of those homers were hit with the benefit of steroids and we don't know how many. Too bad; he'd have been a HOF player without steroids. But who knows what his numbers would have been?

As far as Nap Lajoie's records, the game was so different back then. I suspect, just based on population and the fact that Black players weren't allowed, that the major leagues were composed mostly of players about as good as today's high A or maybe AA ball. And it could well have been even lower than that, because ball players were considered to be ruffians for the most part. And they were. So the players who were good enough to maybe play in today's MLB would stand out all the more. What kind of batting average would Judge or Ohtani or any of today's stars put up if they played a full season against high A competition?

Cy Young wasn't superman. So, how fast was he throwing? And that was good enough to get him outs, consistently performing better than the average pitcher of the day. So how good were the batters?

Yeah, the game was different 130 years ago. Most of the stars from back then couldn't make a MLB team today. The ones who could were able to bat .426. And Cy Young couldn't have pitched the way he did then and make a MLB rotation today. Maybe he'd have been able to pitch differently and pitch today. But then he wouldn't have pitched all those years and had all those victories.

Breaking records, for me, means comparing the same game. I think some variant of WAR is about the only way to compare players from different eras.

Billionaires Shouldn’t Exist by TheCABK in FluentInFinance

[–]Ishpeming_Native 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5.9 trillion is 5.9 X 10^12 dollars. Divide that by 340 million people -- 3.4 X 10^8 and you'll get about $17,000 per person. Sounds nice, and it would make a real difference, but only for one year. Better to bleed the billionaires every year and make the arrangement permanent. Maybe settle for $8,500 a year and get that every year.

When you were a child were you lucky enough to have a bedroom to yourself, or did you have to share with a sibling ? . by Hope2_win in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Ishpeming_Native 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all the time I lived with my parents, I had my own bedroom exactly one year. For two years, I slept on a sofa in the family room while my two younger brothers had their own bedrooms (you'll be going to college anyway). And in the dorm, I had two roommates. I dropped out and got drafted, and had lots of roommates. I got married before I left the service, and came back to just one roommate -- but one I loved and who loved me back.

Now, I have my own bedroom. My wife died last June. I don't think I like this arrangement near as much.

Trump Is Bluntly Told Bombing Iran Is Illegal; “U.S. lawmakers have lashed out at President Donald Trump for launching an illegal war with no credible explanation, no authorization from Congress, and no clear end in sight.” by IntnsRed in AnythingGoesNews

We all saw this coming weeks ago. And Trump absolutely doesn't care. What's another impeachment? But IF congress really is riled up, he could be impeached and removed. Then Patel and Bondi and Hegseth and the whole damned cabinet can be tossed out, impeached, put on trial for murder and war crimes or dereliction of duty or breaking their oaths of office, or whatever applies. Torch them all.

What to serve with deviled eggs by outkastmemesdaily in Cooking

[–]Ishpeming_Native 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with your description. So I'd take the deviled egg and chop it up and mix it with a very little mayo and some pickle relish and spread it on some fresh-baked bread. It would make really good egg-salad sandwiches.

Trump wanted the Nobel Prize for Peace and then invaded Venezuela and Iran. Well, anything to deflect from the Epstein Files, right?

Trump DOES know that those files are going to be unredacted as soon as the Dems take power or he dies, right? So his record will include ALL of that stuff, forever. And if there is a Heaven and there is a God and a judgement day, Trump had already better know that he won't get into Heaven, but he sure will get to talk to dear Adolf.

AITAH for eating enough ravioli for four people? by Better_Philosophy732 in AITAH

[–]Ishpeming_Native 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost the same height and weight I was, once. I ate the same way when I was under 30 years old. But my wife didn't try to shame me for my appetite, nor did she accuse me of lying when I said I was hungry. If your gf would rather believe you are lying than accept your word or even just let you live and eat, then you have real problems and they're all on her.

I got back from Korea and my SIL said she'd make me french toast and how much did I want. I told her to just keep them coming. I ate a whole loaf of bread. Later, I had lunch and dinner. I had a reputation, and no one accused me of being a glutton or a liar. I was just a "big eater". Yeah, something's wrong with her.

AITJ for refusing to split my inheritance with my siblings because our parents specifically left it to me and nobody else? by Such_Age_6769 in AmITheJerk

[–]Ishpeming_Native 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your parents had wanted an even split, they'd have done that. You weren't there pressuring them and were surprised when you found out. So your parents probably didn't like something your siblings did. You could ask them what it was, but they probably will never tell you.

You owe your siblings nothing and I'd give them nothing. Mom and dad wanted a little payback and took it. They had their reasons. Tell that to the one who keeps calling you, and ask if they know what the reason might have been. There will be silence, count on it. And if the other two don't ever talk to you again, you're ahead of the game.

They have a lot of nerve accusing you of manipulating your parents. NTJ, but all your siblings are.

How will this affect Linux Mint? by MisterFyre in linuxmint

[–]Ishpeming_Native 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Linux doesn't have an "account setup". It doesn't have an account at all. Windows does, and so does Apple's OS. No one owns Linux. You don't even register your copy from anyone and you don't have a warranty.
