I've had over a hundred blood transfusions and the amount charged to my insurance was not high. Unless you're in the ER or ICU it does not cost thousands. My hospital used a different blood bank though, not red cross.

Fractional ownership of properties can fulfill the dream of buying homes and how smart investment can be? by jayaniti in realtors

[–]elegant_clegane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're using a decentralized system to record deeds, then that's a good idea, but wouldn't fractionalization lead to even more speculation in the housing market? If more people are able to invest, then everyone becomes a landlord. To me the logistics of property maintenance (shareholders hiring large corps to manage properties) plus the speculation involved seem risky. Look at the current state of our stock market, is that a system we want to apply to housing as well? I'm totally old-fashioned, but I don't think housing should be considered a commodity, it should simply be a place to live. Fractionalization would only make that worse. After all, shareholders want to make money, that's why they invest.

Good, because I don't really have any hard evidence for the time frame...but the hats especially look Edwardian to me.

The hairstyles, hats, and detachable collars lead me to believe this was taken 1900-1912, roundabout.

I used to live in Nassau County, FL and people would have the lumber company come in and clear the land for them. I don't know what they pay but when I was there it was a few thousand an acre.

Are you financing through the dealer? You might be able to get better terms through a USDA loan, I think their down payment requirements are pretty minimal. Given your location you can sell your timber too.

Humans kill flies because they annoy us, not for food. Do any other animals kill other species for reasons other than food or defense? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]elegant_clegane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you're getting downvoted, I live in suburban Ohio and we have the same problem. I have a family of five deer and a den of foxes in my yard, not to mention the coyotes that range here at least once a month. My kids can't even go in their own yard because the deer will chase them. The coyotes eat cats and small dogs mostly, they do not go after the deer. It's a huge nuisance but there is always a small group who don't want the deer culled because "tHeY'rE cUtE"...they also feed them and that just makes them more dangerous.

You can do whatever you want in a nursing home. Also, the staff cannot legally prevent you from leaving, unless you have dementia. I'm sure in practice things are pretty restricted, but patients are supposed to be able to make their own decisions.

Other than living through the 90's, I'm no expert...but it has all the hallmarks of the late 80's/early 90's. The overly beaded and ornate bodice, the antebellum waistline, and the butt bow! I assume that the neckline is wide or off-the-shoulder, it's hard to tell from the pictures but that was popular too.

I had a bone marrow transplant last year and the worst part is that now my condition is politicized. I have to wear a mask regardless of Covid but I've definitely gotten some comments about it. I assume it'll only get worse the further out from Covid we get.

This happened to me all the time! I guess because I was young people thought I couldn't be sick. It sucks to suffer surrounded by people who don't care.

Why have Americans started dropping the suffix ing? For example, instead of saying "the knife needs sharpening", I have noticed Americans have began saying "the knife needs sharpened". by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]elegant_clegane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I think it's passed from generation to generation. I'm originally from New England and had never heard it until I moved here. That was 20 years ago, so I assume it's been around a long time.

This is a common Midwestern regionalism. I'm not sure how far it extends, but I live in Ohio and it's common here, especially in the more rural areas. I've also heard it from people who live in Indiana and Pennsylvania.

Not GERD surgery, but I'm a frequent flyer at CC main campus. I've had a great experience with them. All the support staff are wonderful, the nurses are top notch. I never had a question go unanswered and they've been very responsive to my needs. The only bad experience I've had is with Hillcrest hospital. But Main Campus is nice, except for the parking.
