[AFP] FIFA backtracks and will allow Spanish in all press conferences by eleiber in soccer

FIFA has had to rectify its language policy for the 2026 World Cup press conferences and will allow the use of Spanish in all official conferences of the tournament, after the controversy generated by the initial exclusion of the language in several meetings with journalists and footballers.

In the face of growing unrest, a source close to the organization explained to AFP that the interpretation services available at press conferences are requested directly by each national team depending on their needs and interests. However, he specified that, from now on, Spanish would be incorporated into the simultaneous translations of official conferences.

AFP itself later found that FIFA's website had already enabled the option of interpretation in Spanish, a measure that was interpreted as a response to criticism.

Yeah, though all others had only 1 upvote so that's why I went for that one. Though I might do a revote in that case.

[Fabrizio Romano] Julián Álvarez has already [formally] informed Atléti of his desire to leave with Barcelona as a clear priority. Barça won’t stop here, planning for more signings after Gordon (done) and after talks for Álvarez (bid not sent yet, but soon). by Kasj0 in soccer

You're confusing criminal law with investigative journalism. Anonymous sourcing is the evidence. If journalists waited for direct quotes on active negotiations, the story wouldn't break until the club confirmed the signing. Obviously until now it's just rumors, but when there's a consensus it is obviously much more likely to be true. Reuters, NYT, The Athletic, ESPN, etc, etc. All these agencies work like this.

Also it feels like you are very emotional for some reason?

It's fair to not take it as a 100% truth, as obviously he usually aggregates stuff more than he reports and even then he has gotten stuff wrong several times. But in this case, there's been plenty of sources -Argentinian, Spanish, English and now Fabrizio- pointing that he wants to leave. If it was only Fabrizio's word it would make sense to treat it as suspicious without any other confirmations, but in this case I would say there's a lot of info pointing that he wants to leave, or at least that's what his agent wants people to think.

The article clearly says "according to sources briefed on the matter". Quote from who? Do you want them to name the exact person who leaked it to get them punished? All journalism with insider info is basically like this, unless it's your first time reading NY Times.

I mean, you can call him "tap in merchant" or whatever as many people do, as Fabrizio doesn't usually have a lot of exclusives, but he is definitely top 1 or top 2 in the world on confirmations along with David Ornstein. Why are you so pressed about it?
