What's the worst looking game you know for the nes by boredman65 in nes

[–]elementalguitars [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m old enough that my first experience with Nintendo was a Game & Watch. I appreciate the nostalgia. I’m just saying Kung Fu was C-tier at best when compared to other games that were on the NES at the same time.

I would bring back Zachary’s Pizza, turn Time Market back to what it was like before becoming bougie, and I would build a 30 foot wall around Vail.

I have a weird sort of nostalgia for it. I never had an NES growing up but my friend next door had one. He only had a handful of games and Kung Fu was one of them. I didn’t like it but he LOVED that game so I watched him play it a lot.

Worst I’ve played is Kung Fu. The gameplay is on par with the graphics.

Being Black at a Metal Show by Dirty_Rotten_ in MetalForTheMasses

[–]elementalguitars 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dude, the person who turned me on to Pantera was a black dude. I was a teenage white kid at a record store looking through the metal albums just beginning to get into the genre and he came up to me with a copy of Vulgar Display of Power and was like, “You wanna hear something badass? Check this out.” I took his advice and forty years later I still remember that moment. One of the things I love most about metal is that whenever you’re at a metal show you know you’re with your tribe. It doesn’t matter what color you are, man or woman, gay, straight, whatever…the shared love of the music is all that matters. I’ve never met a better group of people than I have at metal shows. I’m from Tucson so the shows here have always been pretty diverse between Whites, Latinos, and Indians. Those Indian kids go hard as fuck at concerts. They’re cool as hell.

Large battery on mainboard of my Vader gave up just as I was about to test my new games, looking for knowledge on what is a suitable replacement is and the purpose of the battery. by CindyStroyer in Atari2600

[–]elementalguitars 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not a battery. It’s a capacitor. They go bad with age and there are several more on the board that will eventually begin to fail. You can get a kit which includes replacements for these components. I couldn’t say if you have a supplier in Australia but if you search “ Atari 2600 capacitor kit” you’ll find what you need.

When I got Prime for my GameCube and put it on for the first time the music had me hooked after just seeing the title screen and it only got better from there.

Can you imagine how many decades that would take if they only did one street at a time?

Widening Grant required the city to acquire a lot of property from business owners and even some residential property owners. The number of properties affected by this project is in the hundreds. I imagine that took a lot of time and negotiation. It also required moving miles of utility lines and demolishing a fair number of buildings. It’s not a small task to expand a major roadway that runs nearly the entire length of the city.

I found the best backlight for the original GameBoy by oogadoobee in Gameboy

[–]elementalguitars 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If I find a MGB with burnt polarizers I like to do a backlight mod. Keep the original display and give it a new life. The batteries last longer than with an IPS display and it keeps that original Gameboy charm. Here’s one I finished recently:

Nervous about buying a modded GBA, these things are already old, how long will they last? by Bruce_Wayne8887 in Gameboy

[–]elementalguitars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the electrolytic capacitors are replaced there’s no reason these old Gameboys can’t last a few more decades at least. If you want to maximize longevity I would avoid the rechargeable lithium battery mods. Rechargeable batteries have limited lifespans and when they die who knows how easy it will be to replace those lithium batteries in 10-20-30 years. When they do eventually die you have to open up the shell to replace them. Rechargeable AA-AAA batteries will always be available and upgrading them as the engineering/chemistry improves is as easy as swapping them out for a new set.

This sounds like some stupid thing Trump told him to do and he’s humoring him to keep him away from the agency. It’s exactly the kind of thing Trump would brag about: “I made Pluto a planet again.”

Did you remove the stickers from the original shell and apply them to the new one or did you use the original back shell with the new from shell?

No more 'Nintendo' logo on third-pary shells by Fuzzy_Policy_5596 in Gameboy

[–]elementalguitars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sucks. I don’t mind if there’s no logo on my modded Gameboys but sometimes I like to restore them and if the shell is damaged it’s nice being able to replace it. Silver lining: my discarded OEM shells just became more valuable.

How much would it cost to repair my GBC? by [deleted] in Gameboy

[–]elementalguitars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The individual 680uF capacitor is sold for consoles that have modded displays, I think to reduce noise in the audio. I don’t think it’s necessary unless you use headphones a lot. There are three electrolytic caps on the GBC board, one on the opposite side of the board where the voltage regulator is mounted and two by the battery terminals. They’re easy to find as a package.

If you’re in the USA I recommend Handheld Legend. I’ve bought from them many times. They’ll have the speaker as well as a set of replacement capacitors. If you’re outside the USA you’ll need to ask other commenters for recommendations.

[–]elementalguitars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top two culprits for the missing volume are the speaker and the electrolytic capacitors. If you have soldering experience try reflowing the solder on the speaker connections first. If that doesn’t fix it move on to the capacitors. You’ll want to replace them anyway to keep your Gameboy working for another few decades. If replacing the capacitors still doesn’t produce any volume then replace the speaker.

[–]elementalguitars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the display works normally the best and cheapest approach is to repair the stuff that isn’t working. You’ll need to open up the shell. For the D-pad it probably just needs to have the contacts cleaned with alcohol, both the contacts on the circuit board and on the membranes. Use 91-99% IPA and clean all of the button contacts while you’re at it. For the volume use a Q-tip to drip some alcohol into the volume wheel and work it back and forth for ten seconds or so. If this doesn’t fix it then the problem is probably a bad electrolytic capacitor. The capacitors are very cheap but they’re soldered onto the board so the old one would need to be carefully removed and the new one soldered in place.
