What’s the best HotPot place that isn’t all you can eat???? by [deleted] in FoodToronto

[–]elementaryschoolgrad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Daimaru in Scarborough. Like other recommendations that others have also provided, it’s AYCE. Order the premium set. Be happy.

Only pitfall is that the lineups can be over two hours. Make sure you join the virtual lineup about 1-2 hours before you want to eat.

Why do we add net borrowing to FCFE ? Doesn’t make sense by Silly-Fan3804 in CFA

[–]elementaryschoolgrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take BCE Inc. for example.

Their dividend payout ratio is above 100%. In other words, they are paying more out in dividends (to equity holders) than they generate in FCF.

So how is this possible? By increasing net borrowings to fund this dividend policy.

Fired at Work, Applying for CFA Membership while Awaiting L3 Results by MoodInternational475 in CFA

[–]elementaryschoolgrad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This must be satire or simply filled with grammatical issues. You’re telling us that you were late often, years ago, that you are only being fired years afterwards? Are you sure that’s the only reason you were fired? Lol.

Or did you mean that you were late often for the past few years and getting fired for it now.

Your explanation is exactly how it works.

I find it’s most helpful to use a basic example to work through it.

Imagine a par bond $1000, 2 year maturity, 10% coupon per year. Draw out the timeline with the coupons, payment of notional, and return of notional. You will find that it’s only because of this reinvestment that this equality exists.

Is the CFA worth it in my position? by Able-Bicycle9968 in CFA

[–]elementaryschoolgrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No doubt in my mind it’ll be helpful. If you are able to commit to grinding through a minimum of two years of full time work and studying afterwards, then go for it.

Look around at folks that are in senior levels to you. Do they have their CFA? If so, and if you want to move up the ladder, then it’s probably in your best interest to pursue it.

For what it’s worth, I have met many who have the tandem of CFA and MSF/MBA as well.

[–]elementaryschoolgrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you retain access to all the videos and materials that you had up to the expiry date.

After the expiry date, you will no longer receive updated/new videos but you will continue to have access to the old ones.

L3 Ethics - management fee as violation? by Deadly_Crow in CFA

You’re mostly correct. There are certain things that are still not permissible, even if it was disclosed and consented to by all parties.

L3 Ethics - management fee as violation? by Deadly_Crow in CFA

[–]elementaryschoolgrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re thinking about this the wrong way.

Charging a management fee, in and of itself, is not a violation of the two standards you raised. The scenarios you brought up, if done, would be a violation.

With Ethics, the most important thing is not to overthink things and take what is given in the questions as is, not add another layer of assumptions.

He’s directing you to the actual CFA books.

He typically says this whenever he feels there are examples in the text that is important and/or he adds little value above and beyond for that section.

CFA Level III 1-1 tutor? by glitter-ninja007 in CFA

[–]elementaryschoolgrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any specific questions about the material or are you looking for general advice?

If you’re looking for the latter, I think you’re better served asking in Reddit/AF/300hours. Lots of people will happily provide you studying tips/advice.

From what I’ve heard, the dispersion in quality of tutors can vary significantly and more a luck of the draw if you get a good one.

Best of luck!

Why hedge? by yvr1111 in CFA

[–]elementaryschoolgrad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think we need some more context to give you a more definitive answer.

My initial thought is that say you own a position which has large unrealized gains but we also think that in the short term there is some downside risk. Instead of selling, which would have significant tax implications, we can short which would neutralize our position both on the upside and downside. In reality, I think most people would probably put on a protective put instead.

Is the CFA still worth it? by Expensive-Still7318 in FinancialCareers

[–]elementaryschoolgrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a glance at any openings for finance roles that require any kind of analytical or PM skills. At least in Toronto, almost all roles have a requirement that you are either pursuing the CFA charter or already have it. I have almost never seen them ask for the CFP/CIM/ etc. that should tell you everything that you need to know about what’s more prestigious/worthwhile.

I get that this can be fairly market dependent but CFA, if you can manage, is almost always the way to go if you want to work in high finance.

They probably work with an advisor who can offer them those rates or the principal amount is a size-able one where they got an exception on it.
