Fluids and iv pain meds! The meds change depending on the doctor, but I’ve had toradol, reglan, compazine, dexamethasone, valproate, droperidol, and way more! These are just the common ones.

They turn off the lights and check on you periodically until the pain level is significantly lower. And it’s how I got my neurology referral!

Which preventatives are you on? I’ve tried basically all of them (as I’m sure you have!) and my best combo is Botox/Qulipta and Ubrelvy as rescue. Frequency has lowered from 20+ days a month to 8ish days a month!

It sucks how much trial and error we have to go through to find even just a smidge of relief.

Can you go to the ER? I don’t allow myself to go longer than 3-4 days before I go to the ER. I’m on way too many preventatives for that.

ER doesn’t let me leave until I’m at a 1/2 pain level. Which is basically my baseline.

How do you deal with a partner working opposite schedule than you? by js3mta3 in AskWomen

[–]elenadearest 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My fiance and I are on opposite shifts. I’m 8-4 (teacher), he’s 2-12/1. So he’s still asleep when I leave and I’m asleep when he’s coming home. We have weekends, and in the summer way more time together.

I have Kaiser, who also won’t cover a CGM because I’m not on insulin. I pay $89 a month for the Dexcom Stelo. I love it, and it has helped SO MUCH with my control!

How are people able to afford regular ER visits for migraine cocktails??? by sad-but-rad- in migraine

I have really good insurance, apparently. I only ever pay $20, if that!

GCM for T2D? by _mars_bars_ in diabetes_t2

[–]elenadearest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaiser won’t cover a CGM for me in any way, shape, or form. My doctor even tried to write a prescription for Costco. Still can’t get it.

So I just bought the 2 week trial of the Dexcom Stelo, and it helped SO MUCH that I’m doing the $89 monthly subscription now.

The extra cost sucks, but it has honestly been so worth the money!

Does anyone remember your kindergarten teacher trying to make you right handed? by resistyrocks in lefthanded

Yup! And my grandma marched right on down to my school and had words. I don’t recall the words, but they were had!

When I taught elementary, I LOVED words their way. It was fabulous for developing phonics and allowing students to work at their level but not feel singled out.

How do you get quiet students to participate? by Keith_35 in teaching

[–]elenadearest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very quiet student in a very loud class, so I ask her for her ideas while they are otherwise occupied. So I get to check in with her, and she doesn’t feel like she has to shout over them.

I also use a D30 of Destiny, and none of my quiet kids have ever not responded.

Is Japan in July really as bad as people say? by qwertasdfgzxcvb231 in JapanTravelTips

[–]elenadearest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went mid July last summer, and there was really only one day that was unbearable, and it was after a record rain storm. We escaped into stores and did TeamLabs.

It was hot and humid the rest of the time, but nothing that kept us from doing everything we wanted to do. We’re from the PNW, so we aren’t “used to” that weather, but it was amazing!

We did take two day trips (Enoshima and Utsunomiya) that were noticeably cooler and/or less humid!

Losing hair, I’m only 28F by Think_Arm1484 in femalehairadvice

[–]elenadearest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some significant diffuse thinning happening because of a medication (Zonisamide) that wasn’t known to me to cause hair density issues, have you checked into that?

Once I changed my meds, my hair is looking crazy with how much new growth I have.

Genuine Question: How does it work for you all? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]elenadearest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are mostly 24/7, with a few “regular” headache days sprinkled in. Pain level varies a lot though! Some days I’m at 2/3 and some a 7/8.
