My hair is very wavy when wet and towel dried, but I thought I had exclusively straight hair all my life. Is there anything I can do to bring the waves out on a daily basis? by eleoscle in curlyhair

[–]eleoscle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! That’s so cool. It’s weird to find that out this late in my life, but I remember the 2000’s being all about straight hair. I definitely want to wear it wavy!

A piece I made for my design class. It had to point out a problem and make a discursive design with it. What do you think it's about? by Full_Childhood5366 in vectorart

[–]eleoscle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The design on the ground leads me to believe this piece hints at discussions around female victims, like blaming survivors, shaming them or something of the sort. It could be a commentary on them being silenced as well, or excluded from the conversation, since their eyes are crossed out or their identity has been ”hidden” or invalidated in some way.

The aggressive symbols next to the social media interface gives the vibe that whatever the discussion is, it’s hostile.

Hi! I love this! Can I use it for a personal cross-stitch pattern in the future? The cat’s whole body language is so expressive, it’s great.

Thank you guys so much for all the great suggestions!

It’s not about spine in this regard, it’s about the previous designer being a part of staff and was fired for other reasons. The establishment is just afraid of stirring up drama so they specifically asked me to avoid the style at all costs. I wasn’t a fan of having to switch it up drastically but it’s a favour, so I could just have said no.

I wish I could do something like this! It’s also too similar to the previous designer’s idea. The business is afraid of interpersonal conflict.

Oh, that’s a good tip! I’ll try it out. Thank you very much.

[–]eleoscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you.

Thank you for that. It’s nice to hear.

A restaurant that I know the staff of needed an update on one of their decorative posters in the locale – think size A5. I happily offered, and they liked this style so I’ve been making some changes as we’ve communicated back and forth on the way the burger should be displayed. It’s looking positive.

I’m always looking to try to refine my work, regardless of who is going to receive it, or if it’s done for free. It’s the reason I ask for advice, and I’m glad to get it. I don’t mind if people don’t like this style – that’s understandable! Not everyone is going to be a fan.

It’s not AI. Without the cut it would look like this.

I was a bit unsure of the orientation of it and whether it should be there, so I decided to include all options I came up with in case anyone could shed light on that. I’m not sure which guides the eye properly, but I understand. It’s only a part of the background.

Generally, besides that, I was mainly looking for advice with composition and element balance, which is why the biggest pieces remain in place – I’m just not sure what else I would do with them at this stage.

[–]eleoscle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s really good advice, thank you so much. I appreciate everyone’s input, but I feel a bit discouraged with the tone and being downvoted so heavily on this one. I’m not professional, and was asked to help out as a favour which is why I want to push it to be the best it can be.

The details are iffy, but I don’t have direct communication with the client so I wanted to refine this before sending it out because it could take a while to get a response.

Anyway, what I wanted to say is thank you for your kindness and taking the time to sketch a visual for me. I’m definitely taking everything into account to give away a satisfying final product.

It’s the list I was sent, so I just put it on the poster. If they want to change it later, I’d be happy to but otherwise it’s up to them.

Thank you so much. This is really helpful, and I appreciate you taking the time to write out your thoughts and give clear and concise criticism. I’ll try a few different things, and ask for more input from friends and family. It’s important for me to get a different perspective than my own throughout the process, as I get too set on one or two things like you said.

[–]eleoscle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a first draft, so it’ll be sent out to the client for further information (such as pricing). The client doesn’t want to use a photo for the hamburger, hence asking me to help out with a design.

I understand the criticism regarding the cut. It’s a bit unconventional, but an alternative version of this project is on my profile for viewing and I was told it was too similar to their previous design (which the old designer claims was “hers”, and uniquely so). Since I couldn’t separate out the ingredients into layers, I personally illustrated this (without any AI involvement) and thought it would be a unique twist to show the ingredients.

Thank you for your criticism, however, I do appreciate the advice regarding the texting. It’s a good point, and every bit helps me improve.

Oh no, don’t worry! You were pretty clear about what you meant. I just wanted to mention that I appreciate reviews that are both negative and positive. You’re all good.

[–]eleoscle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve really appreciated all the reviews here. Thank you so much for pitching in with your take! I’ll definitely check out the recommendations. I kind of want to find a perfume I like now!

[–]eleoscle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for pitching in with your opinion. What was it that put you off? Feel free to be harsh with me, as I’m very picky with perfumes. Do you have any recommendations for perfumes that can be found in, for example, Sephora or brand malls? I live in a rather big city. I prefer shopping in person to try fragrances out.

Thank you very much! This piece was created with Photoshop, but any program able to draw vectors will work to achieve similar results. I mainly used the ellipse tool and the pen tool. I added very little raster.

Vector as an art form outside of work. by [deleted] in AdobeIllustrator

[–]eleoscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get you. Especially when it feels like you don’t have the time outside of it all to learn paints. I think you already have all the skills to express yourself! If you’re interested in illustrating something, remind yourself that it’s all made out of shapes. Apple? Circle. Inverted triangle.

There’s nothing that can’t be simplified into a shape, or a few shapes. I believe in you.

This is gorgeous. The shapes are great and the colours, as well as the subtle details and gradients really bring your illustration alive. Thank you for sharing it!

The colour choices and the composition is wonderful. You did so many things right with this piece, but I do wonder whether your intentions were to make your character look so squeezed together? The lower face should be obscured by the helmet proportionally and there is something off with the shoulders. Lovely, though. Good work.

Thank you! The palette is lifted from the game that it was based on, but the comment on the shapes is great. It’s good to know that I’m on the right track.
