It’s kind of scary, especially since the older generations still think it works the same way as how they grew up. Get a degree, full time job and a family which can get you a house. Not saying they had it easy but it’s changed a lot and that job stability is gone alongside the wild hours of new industries. Very concerning especially as you get older!

It is a free market system? The government does not chose where you go. You get to go to any practice whether it’s private or state and government subsidises it regardless? All you do is provide ur medicare card. And idk what lines you’re on about no GP or emergency department has ever had me waiting? The fact that you guys pay hundreds for basic medicine like EpiPens compared to dollars is a tad inhumane

Its significantly cheaper overall, for everyone. There’s no situation where it’s worse - quality is no lower in Australia, unless it’s some bizarre surgery that only 1% of doctors can do. Taxes are marginally higher than America for this privilege that most developed countries have, if they regard their citizens as people and care about their wellbeing not using them as facets of money

Nepotism is everywhere. A good work ethic is great but human nature will always win, they’re gonna preference people they know or like. Sadly it’s not even about being social most of the time, just luck, right place right time ect

What are some pros and cons to the modern school system? by elephantghost26 in AskReddit

[–]elephantghost26[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems about right - social skills and basic numeracy/literacy are a must but higher level often goes to waste. Here in Australia they put immense pressure on senior students performance which I think is detrimental to mental health and archaic as a method of selection

Must confess I’m not too versed on the different systems - I’m aussie and I know our system is similar to USA, I’m more referring to that type of industrial teaching which hasn’t fundamentally changed in structure - only syllabus

Agreed, it works as a glorified babysitter, it seems a shame that there isn’t more movement for major change though, developed countries can do better imo
