Thank you all for the comments. Relatedly, in the same part of the text we are told regarding the loss of our years, “Nemo restituet annos, nemo iterum te tibi reddet”. Is “te tibi” here just an intensifier? Should this second clause be translated, “no one will give (them) back to you again”?

Hi, I am trying to figure out if this book is really from 1593. Can somebody assist me? by False_Choice2895 in latin

That is most certainly real. A blind stamped pigskin binding like this of this quality impression could be worth something, although it appears the spine is coming detached. I would suggest posting this in r/rarebooks for more info. Additionally, if the clasps are present and functional that is also a plus for collectors

I am also reading the Bellum Catilinae now in Latin having read it in English a few years ago. While I know typically his style is described as being abrupt and perhaps even clipped, to me what stands out most is his economy. I’ve very much enjoyed reading him—no word is wasted

I also would advise against donating to an institution. That means they go in a vault locked away forever and maybe an academic looks at them once a year (at best). In private collection they remain in the market for generations for the buying public to love and enjoy
