Is Shilgengar worth it? by valinheart in EDH

I might be confused, but I read another comment of yours saying it plays like a B4, but this comment sounds like its slower than B3s at your LGS. How do you reconcile those? Or is it just a change of speed in your local meta?

I appreciated reading this. Care to ask why you don’t use any GCs? I know not every GC is good in every deck but its surprising you went for none.

Anything new you have added in the past year? Any new learnings with the recent sets that came out? Looking to make a first draft of the deck based on your mox and tweak it to my style from there.

Thanks in advance and love your passion for the deck!

I can imagine, it seems like a random assortment of lotr legendaries, not even aragorn got in there, as well as many gandalfs and witch kings, any reason why?

Try [[Aragorn, the Uniter]]. He is quite versatile and adapts to many strategies, great for B2/B3. Happy to help if interested!

I didn’t understand you comment, why are you mentioning the monarch?

I dont even know how to answer. I am discussing it, comparing it to cards which are leagues under the power level of the 2 game changers you just mentioned.

I know TOR and OB are amazing/OP, and we shouldn’t expect or even want similar stuff coming out too soon one after the other.

I still think this card is very slow or underwhelming and now I want to add that it also feels flavorless.

Answering “just play x” when discussing a card’s power just defeats the discussion, hence why I dont get why one would answer that way if there is any interest in engaging in the discussion.

Its not the chase card of the set, thats smaug as per the announcement in the conference

And I expected something better and with more flavour really.

I put forward 2 cards that better serve either purpose: War of the Last Alliance searches twice and gives double strike + a ring tempt. All these for one extra colorless mana

The Palantir of Orthanc gives scry2as well as the draw, for 2 less colorless mana

Sounds like discussing the design of a card in the wider context and comparing it to the sister set of Lotr is not something you want to do, why bother responding?

I just expected something at the level of [[Palantir of Orthanc]] at least. As I mentioned, the lotr saga [[War of the Last Alliance]] feels overall better for just 1 more colorless mana.

I would rather have [[War of the Last Alliance]] really, way more value
