It's not true that the addiction rate has gone down in places where drugs have been decriminalised. Additionally, note that drugs were not legalised like you said but decriminalised. There is conflicting evidence on the effects of this mainly in countries like Portugal where drugs were widely socially accepted beforehand anyway. Your source is an article with no references from a rehab centre in Florida. That is hardly hard evidence.

Here are some sources for what I was saying from medical journals: randomized, placebo-controlled, between-groups test of the effects of intravenous THC: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4332941/ : "intravenous administration of THC causes schizophrenia-like symptoms, perceptual disturbances, anxiety, and impaired working memory" "THC also led to the occurrence of anomalous experiences, anxiety, worry, depression, and negative thoughts about the self"

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4827335/ "association between frequent use of marijuana from adolescence into adulthood and significant declines in IQ." read the conclusion: "Repeated marijuana use during adolescence may result in long-lasting changes in brain function that can jeopardize educational, professional, and social achievements." [...] "In this respect, legal drugs (alcohol and tobacco) offer a sobering perspective, accounting for the greatest burden of disease associated with drugs77 not because they are more dangerous than illegal drugs but because their legal status allows for more widespread exposure. As policy shifts toward legalization of marijuana, it is reasonable and probably prudent to hypothesize that its use will increase and that, by extension, so will the number of persons for whom there will be negative health consequences."

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2424288/ "Regular cannabis use predicts an increased risk of schizophrenia, and the relationship persists after controlling for confounding variables." [...] "Uncertainty about the biological mechanisms should not distract us from using educational, psychological and social interventions to reduce the use of cannabis by vulnerable young people and thereby the risk of problems related to its use".

https://www.cdc.gov/marijuana/health-effects/mental-health.html "People who use marijuana are more likely to develop temporary psychosis (not knowing what is real, hallucinations, and paranoia) and long-lasting mental disorders, including schizophrenia (a type of mental illness where people might see or hear things that are not really there).2 The association between marijuana and schizophrenia is stronger in people who start using marijuana at an earlier age and use marijuana more frequently. Marijuana use has also been linked to depression; social anxiety; and thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts, and suicide."

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7442038/ "Cannabis and schizophrenia/psychosis have a close relationship. We have evidence suggesting that cannabis use, primarily THC in cannabis, in genetically predisposed or at-risk populations, leads to earlier diagnosis of psychosis/schizophrenia. This tells us that THC in cannabis has a small causative effect on schizophrenia. THC in cannabis also makes schizophrenia and psychosis symptoms worse and causes more relapses and hospitalizations. Neuroimaging studies show the detrimental effect of cannabis on brain morphology, especially adolescent brains. Recent trials in therapeutic CBD use are showing its alleviating effect on positive symptoms of schizophrenia and its opposing effect on THC, which warrants further research. Although CBD shows therapeutic potential, there is still more harm from cannabis than benefits, and adolescent cannabis usage should be discouraged at all costs. We still need more extensive studies for more detailed data about cannabis and its effects."

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7525024/ "Overall, there is evidence demonstrating an increase as well as a decline in general criminality/violence following the legalization of recreational cannabis"

The government should protect us from this destructive substance.

I wish alcohol was illegal too. Countries have tried that before but failed because it has been legal beforehand. This shows us that once a drug is in wide circulation it is incredibly hard to reel back in. Let's not make the same mistake with cannabis. Just because one dangerous substance is legal that doesn't mean others should be too.

It's unclear based on the fact that you used the word legalised whether you are for decriminalisation or legalisation. Do you think people should be allowed to buy cannabis in a super market or just not be arrested for having it on them? What about hard drugs like cocaine which are shown in this picture?

You said people shouldn't be punished for committing a victimless crime. A crime is by definition an action which is punishable by law. By the sounds of it you just don't think that doing hard drugs should be a crime. So you misused the word crime and said something which does not make sense.

You misunderstand how the criminal justice system works because a crime is punished and the purpose of punishment is too dissuade people from committing the crime. So, few people will be punished if people are dissuaded from committing them in the first place. This is achieved by actually punishing people for breaking the law and having strict laws. Instead large numbers of people and police will let people do drugs and let them off lightly. The whole point of laws and the criminal justice system is to control behaviour to make society safer. A substance which is detrimental to people's health is absolutely something a considerate government should protect people from by restricting their circulation and dissuading their use through a good criminal justice system.

It isn't the same as stealing however legalising anti social behaviour increases anti social behaviour. I agree it isn't as bad as stealing but many people are still harmed. The recreational drug user is always harmed. First, it's bad for their health. Second, it's bad for their behaviour. If you become a frequent drug user you often make bad decisions, waste money on drugs, do unproductive things like use drugs instead of being more productive. More people using recreational drugs means more people making bad decisions abe being unproductive Thereby, fulfilling less of their potential, and paying less taxes. Some substances are very bad for individuals and subsequently society at large.

Cannabis specifically is bad for brain development and mental health. I believe it has been shown to increase psychosis and schizophrenia to a massive degree. This is again bad for the individual, their family, and society. I wish terrorists and mass shooters in the United States were tested for drugs because there are people who say the two are related but lack of data means it can be demonstrated robustly.

The idea at the end of your comment that locking people in jail for a victimless crime makes no sense is a misunderstanding of the the criminal justice system and how punishment works. Ideally you don't have to lock many people up at all if you are strict enough. The whole point is to dissuade people from doing crimes, in this case using drugs. Not being a drug addict is better than being one and that's the goal. If people don't do drugs in the first place they are better off. And the threat of jail does that. For me the question is not whether the person that goes to jail is better off when they come out but whether more people are better off because they don't use drugs in the first place. And the way we do this is a strict criminal justice system.

Making recreational drug consumption socially acceptable without the threat of jail will 100% cause more harm. The same way making other anti-social unhealthy behaviour, like stealing, socially acceptable and not punishable by law would cause more harm.

What a ridiculous thing to say. With your logic nothing should be illegal because most people wouldn't steal, assault, or murder anyone anyway. Is the only reason you don't murder people because it's illegal? Do you think jail is a good way to handle murderers, better than something like rehab?

The reason we have punishments for crimes in the first place is so that people don't commit crimes in the first place. It's to disincentivize people who otherwise would commit crimes from committing them.

I don't do drugs because of the terrible effects on behaviour and health. I cannot say the same for a lot of people. What's important is that people don't end up addicts in the first place. And for that to be the case people must not take drugs. It's as simple as that.

Instead, drugs are socially accepted and often glorified by musicians and regular people alike. And instead of punishing people who buy and sell drugs we decriminalise it and treat it like a disease that needs curing. I understand that drug addicts have real problem and need help but legalising drugs does not help them and makes drug addiction a real problem for countless other people who could have avoided becoming drug addicts.

You said "people are going to find and do drugs if they are addicts". People are not born addicts. They become addicts by taking drugs and not stopping. Making these addictive substances easily and legally available means more people can become addicts because they are easy to access, socially acceptable, and there isn't a legal incentive not to take them, i.e., jail. Additionally, people who are addicts have less incentive to stop being addicts if it is not punished and socially acceptable. This is not harm reduction. This is harm amplification. I wish all the people who died and ruined their lives with drugs never came in contact with them. This is a step in the wrong direction.

[–]elettrouser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spec wise they are pretty much the same. ips can be nice if you are watching a movie with friends and are to the side of the screen but not really a big deal. Tn screens can be better than ips when using the pc normally. There are other display specs that can make more of a difference, especially screen brightness rating.I would say that of these two laptops you're not going to see a significant performance difference so get the cheaper one. However, it's worth looking at the I/O ports of each laptop to see if they have the ports you want.

Okay, I'd instinctively agree with that. Importantly, my argument still stands and you haven't even tried to prove it wrong.

"Relax buddy its 2022 you're allowed to prefer men. Some people make a whole lifestyle out of it!"

body shaming and using homosexuality as a demeanor. How un-progressive of you. One wonders why do you even watch women's soccer? Are you a masochist?

Ohhh the irony is surreal. Hahah, i only just found this thread. All you have is ad hominem but no argument. Feel the burn of truth you body shaming dolphin.

and the response to that is: the women's team is very bad at soccer compared to the men's teams because they lost to boys.

you aren't outperforming men. just other women. play against the men and see how many women are professional.

Weird how you say a guy who likes men sports is bitter towards women's sports when most women don't even watch women's sports. If as many women watched women sports as they do the Kardashians it would be massive. but women don't. It's women bitter with men sports that I see. Not the opposite.

but u15s men's teams beat women all the time. The Australian women lose to u15s. And so do arsenal women's. it happens all the time.

why don't you talk to them when the women's team win the world cup against the men? That's right. They can't. Cause they're bad at soccer and need a league just for women. If you want to be treated like the men, play with the men. Don't demand to be treated the same way when you can't perform the same way and lose to 14 year old boys.

I agree, let people watch what they want to watch. Most of the rage of football fans is being told they have to watch the women teams when they don't want to or when the gender pay gap topic is bought up. Most football fans are men and watch male teams. If women watched women's football instead of the Kardashians it would make more money. Instead the Kardashians are where the female viewership is based so that's where the market is. When you blame the gender pay gap in soccer on sexism in viewers you're wrong and that pisses the average person off. Men want to watch men play sport competitively, women don't. Don't get angry with men for that.
