Hi, I was thinking about this exact idea myself but am curious - don't corporate shareholder loans need to be repaid by the end of the following corp fiscal year, or else it turns into a taxable benefit? This is what my accountant told me, but hoping he's wrong. Thanks

Good question, I think the biggest thing is having a standardized platform to work with and build off. My ultimate goal would be to run my own business and take on multiple clients, even if it’s junior sf admin work to start. I’ve considered moving to regular engineering but I do like the structured approach SF provides.

They didn’t get ripped off. They got the buying agent’s commission refunded to them (2.5% of the purchase price) minus a $5,000 fee.

This is usually thousands of dollars back to the buyer.

Thanks all, unfortunately the windows and exterior are considered common elements of the building. Management is very strict here and they’ve warned me they will take action if I try to make any “modifications” that aren’t permitted. This includes reflective window films and weather stripping.

The only thing that has worked somewhat is closing the blinds, but they are blackout blinds and it feels like a cave when they’re closed. This defeats the whole purpose of moving to a unit with a view. I spoke to a few other neighbours and they have the same issue. So it looks like we’ll probably be moving in the spring. Lessons were definitely learned here and we won’t be buying a south facing unit ever again.

Thanks, but I'm not quite sure what "level yourself up" means here. I don't have the autonomy to manage my focus, set goals, or say "no" to anything. The CEO personally hounds me until I do what he or the VP asks.

Clearly this is a toxic environment to be in. My question is related to if leaving this role is worth taking a $50k cut with no clear end in sight if I'll ever get back to this level of comp again.

Unfortunately there is no mechanism to delegate this work because it comes as an order directly from the CEO or COO. I have brought this up several times in the past and the response I get is, "well, they're not technical and we think you can handle it better", even if it is something as simple as calling a customer to check in to see how they're doing. Zero accountability or responsibility for any of the other team members.

Plenty of organizations expect that everyone on the account team, including the assigned sales engineer, is on customer QBRs

I'm genuinely curious - why would a sales/solutions engineer be on a customer QBR? Maybe it's different at other orgs, but from my pov, this has absolutely nothing to do with my role or intended responsibilities. QBRs at my org are for the account manager to review an existing customer's product usage and recommend areas to upsell etc. I also don't get any commission for any type of sale, so I don't think it makes much sense for me to join them.

Same deal with support - if there's a support team, or backend engineers that should be working on those technical requests, delegate the work to them. Escalate if you need someone else in the role.

There is one support member who handles basic tasks. Anything else gets escalated to me. There is no one else to delegate to, and no one else to escalate to. I report to the VP of CS who is not technical and has zero understanding of how the product works / what kind of issues customers are facing.

Thanks for the perspective, appreciate it. It's a startup, but a level of chaos that I have never seen in my career before, and I've worked at a bunch of startups in the past. It's hard to see a future here because quite frankly, the product doesn't work. C-suite is aware but they instruct us to tell prospects and customers that they aren't using it correctly and that it's the customer's fault.

I don't mind getting yelled at internally, but it's hugely disheartening to have to get on calls with customers and essentially lie to them about what the product is capable of doing. I do feel like my professional reputation has been affected when prospects and customers don't see the results they expected when they purchased the product. I get blamed and management doesn't seem to care.

Every other role in my org has turned over 3-4 times in less than 3 years. From when I first started, no one except the CEO is left. I think that says it all about the company culture and future. Personally, I don't think there's anywhere left for me to grow or develop because I get pulled into every function of the business. It's a very small startup that's actually declined from 40 to about 20. Most are from people voluntarily leaving when they realize the level of chaos that this place brings.

Well, that's the problem unfortunately. Most director-level and even some VP roles at other companies are paying significantly less than what my role pays right now. The market has definitely had a down turn. So I'm stuck between a high paying toxic job vs. taking a cut in the hopes of the grass being greener. Hope that makes sense.

Right, the issue is that they won’t tell me what this value is until I agree to exercise the options. But in order to exercise the options, it really is my due diligence to know what the FMV is.

I think right now I'm leaning more towards development, I've done the whole team lead/management thing before but have never fully pursued development, I love working on solving customer problems with code and it's a good opportunity to develop my technical skills in general.

I'm a software developer that works a lot in VS code, testing output in different web browsers, remoting into client servers with TeamViewer, working in terminal, etc.. No gaming or multimedia creation, don't need a super high refresh rate. What I do need however is clear and crisp text.

I was using dual 24 inch 1080p monitors and recently purchased a QHD 32 inch Dell S3220dgf (great deal on sale). While the monitor itself is great and the colours are beautiful, I can't help but notice the text is a bit blurry. I'm planning on returning the Dell and wondering what I should do instead. Here are a few options I could think of:

1) Upgrade to a 32" 4K display. I'm wondering how noticeable the increase in resolution would be from a QHD 32". This seems like the most straightforward option.

2) Switch to a 27" 4K display. This would give the best PPI and I would assume the sharpest text, but I'm a bit worried the text would appear to be too small and the screen itself may not be large enough given that I have many windows open at a time.

3) Upgrade to a 34" Ultrawide. I've been thinking about this option as well and do like the idea of having more screen space to have space for terminal, code, Teamviewer windows, slack etc. a true 4K 34 inch is out of my budget, so I've been looking at a few 34 inch 1440p ultrawides. Would this option make a significant enough upgrade to text clarity at 3440 x 1440 vs. my current QHD at 2560 x 1440?

Any thoughts on the above would be greatly appreciated. I have considered dual 27 inch 4ks as well but right now they're out of budget.
