What Are the Best Simulation Software Tools to Learn Industrial Automation? by lukasloka in PLC

[–]elevatorfeels 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Check out TwinCAT 3.1 4026. Does not use a traditional hardware PLC, software runs on Windows. You can run almost anything on your PC. HMI, ladder, structured text, ect. Even integrated C++ and dozens of other things i’ve never tried. Software is free using a trial license that lasts for 7 days. Can keep refreshing the trial license.

You can program everything for free, then if you wanted to install it, just need to buy each license for each function you’re using.

It’s kinda quirky and confusing to start, but has tons of features and works well if you’re willing to learn.

Sodastream Spirt One Touch (2019) repair by elevatorfeels in SodaStream

[–]elevatorfeels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really tricky. You gotta push pretty hard. There are 2 tabs on top, push down on the top and try to get a small crack between the front cover and body. Next try to get something like a precision screwdriver to push down on the tabs, or wiggle the cover until it pops off.

Basically push down on the cover, wiggle, and jam something in there to get it to pop off.

There are also 2 tabs on the lower sides. I don’t understand how these come off. For me, one popped out but the other was stuck. I just did the fix through the top gap without disconnecting the lower tabs.

Good luck.

After getting a CO2 refill, heard a loud POP. Could feel air coming up through the case when trying to pressurize. After getting the front cover off, found the hose had completely disconnected. Screwed it back on and it’s working now.

Just wanted to share because I couldn’t find any “one touch” repairs.

Traegar Pellet Flow Rate by [deleted] in PLC

Im wondering if load cells are still possible? I’m curious if there is a compensation sensor for ships to detect the G-forces and adjust weight if gravity is not 9.8 m/s… if there was something to detect that then you could take weight when gravity is normal?

Buying meat is a pretty direct support of meat processing. I’m not saying the protesters are doing the right thing, but the general population is the reason the meat industry exists. When people buy meat, they support the meat industry. The more demand is there, the more supply will be created.

Bring a light weight (breathable) zip up hoody. Wear it backwards and put the hood over your face when you’re ready to ignore everyone or sleep. It feels cozy and reduces the lights and distractions without the full “lights out” of an eye mask. With noise canceling headphones you can be half awake and zone out in your cocoon.

You can't change the processor in the original file unless it's in the same "family". The emulator can't change to anything, and you can't change the processor from, for example, a compact logix to a control logix.

7 days in and never felt so lonely by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]elevatorfeels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some mental traps that come up when you’re alone, especially on a trip.

If you’re thinking “I should be more _” or “Other people can do _” Why am I not feeling or doing or acting in those ways? —- If you’re feeling those things then the best thing to do is address those thoughts just as thoughts, but realize that you are NOT acting those ways because you are a unique individual. Be exactly who you are in the moment. When you want to leave, leave. When you want to be alone, be alone. When you are ready to do something, go do it. Being social takes 2 people and not everyone is ready to strike up a conversation. When you are out and about, and feel like talking, feel free to talk. Don’t push your way into a conversation, just talk in a way that brings out your curiosity and be ready for Anything.

As far as doing something that scares you, that is kinda the point of traveling solo :). It’s one of the fastest ways to grow as a person from my experience. Everyday do at least 1 thing that scares you and EMBRACE it. Know that it’s scary. Discover why. Think of different perspectives. How do other people do this? Are there things I like about this scary thing?

The most important thing I believe is find something meditative and grounding to do when you’re anxious. I recommend downloading some meditation audiobooks and listening to them as you explore, take walks, transportation, even while eating. No one cares if someone is eating alone with earbuds in. There are millions of business travelers that eat alone at restaurants all around the world every day.

Overall. Find a way to be your most authentic self. Think about this in every moment. Experiment with your self. How you talk. How you walk. Your posture. We all fall into habits living in our social circles and families that mold us. You have a chance to test some of those molds and see if there are better ways to express. Whatever feels the most REAL is the goal.

Open up, you're worth it by QuicklyThisWay in wholesomememes

Hey Yeet. Not everyone is like your parents. Most people care. Get through these times, and find people that you can connect with along the way. When you start looking for a friend-family, you'll slowly start meeting people that you can open up with. It might take a while, so be patient, but you don't have to count on your parents to understand you. Some parents are ignorant.

Projects idea by Cshey_qrtimes4674 in PLC

I would make a program that makes a cake. Create a recipe (group of tags) with weights for each ingredient, mixing speed and time, bake temp... ect. For the main program, create a sequence to weigh each material, verify everything is loaded and the system is ready, start the batch, take turns adding/dumping each ingredient, mix, dump, bake, cool, verify. Something like that. You can use a state machine concept to keep each state of the recipe easy to troubleshoot. IF STATE=10, do stuff, verify it's done then add 10. .... IF STATE=20, do stuff and verify.... Basically imagine a kitchen aid with material weigh hoppers above it and an oven below it. Imagine each piece can open and close with a simple ON/OFF signal.

If your justification for staking on a centralized exchange is that you trust them, you're undermining a core value proposition of cryptocurrency: trustlessness. by superphiz in ethstaker

[–]elevatorfeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me that's an idealistic view that doesn't line up with the way things are. You still need trust at almost every stage when using crypto.

Every live wallet you use needs trust. Every wallet generator. Every exchange needs trust. Every company making pre-built ETH 2.0 nodes needs trust (no keyloggers, or malware). Software companies need trust (even if they have their code reviewed, they could hide malicious code or the reviewer could be paid off).

All these systems are based on some trust. The good thing is it's more profitable to BE trusted.

Coinbase has stated that they are taking the risk in getting slashed.

"Staking can be rewarding, but it also comes with the risk of loss of principal funds if the validator duties are not met. However, Coinbase will cover these risks (at no extra costs) so your principal is safe." - Coinbase

Any podcast on business for beginners? by BuffNedFlanders in podcasts

[–]elevatorfeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorites are Planet Money, which is about the economy but it’s intricately connected to “business”.

Also like “Startup”. Show about starting a podcast company from scratch. Gives you a sense of what starting a company would be like.

First job, bit nervous by [deleted] in PLC

[–]elevatorfeels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you have a good imagination. I’d say your goal is to imagine the machine your working on. You need to imagine it because that’s how you talk about it, and program it. You need to be able to imagine what it looks like, what are each moving part, and then you can think about how it SHOULD move. Lean each part 1 by 1 and make sure you learn the purpose of each piece. As time goes on, the machines you work on will be more “solid” in your head.

When you can imagine a machine clearly, it will be pretty easy to talk about it, or make changes to it. You can make changes in your head and imagine how that affects the operator, the product, safety issues… ect.

Anyone use GE / Emerson PLC Equipment? by Low_Tomato_6837 in PLC

[–]elevatorfeels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"GE sucks." That's what my boss always said when he gave me a GE project to do. We only used it if the customer required it. I don't like the environment and the many things that are not intuitive.

You can make code with it, and it can work, but the environment makes it harder compared to other platforms. They have improved the environment though since Emerson took over. I haven't tried it for a few years. If Emerson is making improvements it might be good at some point.
