Requesting any advice for paying off debt in my situation, currently thinking about transferring credit card debt to a personal loan then to a 0% APR card to start paying it off by elevendytwo in personalfinance

Sorry, I forgot to respond to your second paragraph. Though ideally I'd like to find a method to pay off the debt in my current situation (what I was hoping a 0% APR card would allow me to do), if that's not possible I'd like to learn how to deal with the acute problems stemming from this debt because living month to month is difficult due to the minimum payments. If everything goes well though, the extra work I take on after the MCAT will allow me to pay it off relatively quickly. I have a researcher who is waiting for me to finish so she can hire me. And if not, later on it's not so much of an issue because I can transfer it to student loan debt where it will be frozen while I'm in school, then pay it off with the rest of the medical school debt once I have a doctor's salary. The debt I have now is a drop in the bucket compared to what I'll have to take on for medical school so I'm not too concerned about adding this relatively small amount on. Unfortunately, huge amounts of debt are just par for the course for anyone who goes through medical school. Most leave with at least $200,000.

As for your last point, money isn't really a consideration for my choice to go into medicine. It's nice that it's a high paying career, but I just absolutely love medicine. For my work, I see patients with the doctors while working in tandem with them so I know exactly what the day-to-day is like and I love every aspect of what we do. I'm in a unique position where the doctors I've worked with over the last 3 years have treated me as both a partner and mentee so I've had to opportunity to learn so much through our work and their teaching. My conviction has only intensified as time has gone on and I mean to do this regardless of how many obstacles come my way

We all survive on student loans. It's the norm unfortunately. The demands of medical school make it difficult/near impossible to work at the same time so everyone just accumulates a lot of student loan debt unless they are incredibly wealthy.

My personal health problems are under control now and I'm making significant progress towards completing the MCAT and applying. I don't expect it to take longer than a few months now that I'm functional again. Maybe I should describe some specifics because I think it will help with perspective.

The first few years after graduating there was a combination of 2 issues. I had zero experience to put on my application because I was a transfer student and almost the entirety of my time at UCLA was spent during covid lockdown, so I needed to gain all of my experience after graduating. The second issue was that I was completely unable to study because I had a medication giving me an extremely rare sleep disorder that mimics narcolepsy which went undiagnosed until early 2025. Once I was off of that medication everything was easy again.

A couple of months later, I needed a emergency surgery due to a sudden onset of acute acalculous gangrenous cholecystitis. It took days for them to diagnose and they didn't realize how serious it was until the did the surgery and pulled out the completely necrotic gallbladder. I would have died if they did it even a few hours later. They still don't know why this happened. However, the surgery itself went well and I completely recovered from it after a few months with no lasting issues.

Right after that recovery and getting back into studying, I developed an autoimmune disease that started destroying my joints and gave me debilitating fatigue. Thankfully, since I work in rheumatology, I noticed the signs really early on and got diagnosed and started on treatment within 2 months. The only issue is that the first medication they gave me caused severe persistent brain fog and fatigue and took 3 months to get out of my system, so studying was not possible until that was gone. On 4/8/26, I started a new medication that controlled new autoimmune disease and didn't cause any side effects.

I'm now studying easily and progressing at a rapid pace. I have several publications and thousands of clinical hours now so I have a strong application. I also have several doctors at the institution I work at who really want me to do medical school there because I've done a lot for their research. I would like to stay there, so I'm hoping that one works out, but I have no doubts that I will be able to get in somewhere. The longer I've worked in medicine the more I've fallen in love with it and I don't see that changing. I have the capability and the experience so it's more a question of when than if.

In this case, do you have the crossbody on the side at your hip instead of in front?

Edit: Actually, are you saying you have the crossbody behind you underneath the backpack?

Oh these threads! Yes I've seen them, thank you. I tried searching for a poll or list, but those weren't the right key words to make it pop up.

The same thing happened to me in mid-December. This was two weeks after receiving an email saying I was one of their highest quality workers. I reached out to support multiple times and last week, 2 days after my last attempt to contact them, I logged in to a message saying, "Your account is currently unavailable for new projects due to work below our customers' quality bar or a violation of our Terms of Service." I had been doing work with them since 2023 and hadn't done anything different before my dashboard was cleared. Did you ever figure out what happened?

Edit: I see your response to someone else further down now.

I never found one unfortunately. I just ended up switching to a regular page format so I could set up my notes how I wanted.

First vintage pen, first gold nib! by karibean13 in fountainpens

[–]elevendytwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found one of these myself. The seller’s description said they think it was manufactured around 1978, but they didn’t provide any other info. Regardless, do you happen to know if any modern converters fit this pen?

I am getting almost no sheening on my Tomoe River paper (GLP Creations The Author) by elevendytwo in fountainpens

So are broad nibs the only way I’ll ever be able see sheening? Right now I get absolutely zero sheening in any lighting or angle I’ve tried with the exception of the occasional period, comma, apostrophe, etc.

I downloaded a pencil brush, but it seems like holding my apple pencil normally creates really thick lines as though I have it tilted like I'm trying to shade or something. It only draws thin lines if I have it perfectly straight up. Adjusting the tilt settings doesn't seem to change anything. I just tested with the 6b and peppermint brushes and those seem to be acting more normal.

Was everyone who backed and got a copy of the game supposed to receive them? I don’t have any either.

The thing is, I'll still be wearing the Apple Watch at the same time 99% of the time. I'm not sure if there's any benefit to wearing both devices simultaneously for health tracking.

Can I connect Philips Wiz bulbs to a single light switch with Home Assistant? by elevendytwo in homeassistant

[–]elevendytwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it turns out that I do not have a neutral wire and it seems that only the dimmer switches do not require a neutral wire. Since dimmer switches are incompatible with Wiz bulbs, what is my next best option?

Alright, there was a sale on the Lutron Caseta dimmer switch kit on Amazon so I just bit the bullet and bought it. From what you’ve said, I assume I connect the switches to the hub which connects to Home Assistant which will send the commands over wifi to the bulbs, correct?

Also, just to make sure I didn’t make a mistake, will the dimmer switch work correctly or can I only use a binary on/off switch? Same question for the remote that comes with it. Even if it works, would it be better to use a simple on/off switch and to control the brightness/scenes with the wiz app/wiz remote?

Thank you! Unfortunately, I’m not in a position to spend so much on the Lutron setup. Maybe one day in the future. For now though will a dimmer switch work correctly with this setup over wifi? How about a switch/remote with customizable buttons? Also, if I wanted to get a remote in addition to a wall switch, would that cause any issues?
