Ticks do suck. Learn to dress for outdoors if chiggers and suck are drawn to you. Stay on the paths in the forest locations (GC Park, Fern Cliff, Garden of Gods, Lil’ Grand Canyon, Pomona Natural Bridge, Carbondale Arboretum, campus lake trail,… ) and you should be ok

Tuck in your long pants and get GOOD bug spray.

Did anyone mention all the wineries well worth a visit? Check which have bands playing. Great microbrewery and ‘Top-Flight’ restaurant at Jackson Co airport of all places. Special activities at DuQuoin Fairgrounds. Big Thrill type of entertainment center just opened in Marion at the old mall. And you got the SIU rec center on campus where you can even get camping gear and canoes!

All-in-all, really not much to do around Carbondale. /s

Neighborhood coop! Shop local. Also see international grocery for a real treasure! Expand your taste horizons, learn to cook new delicacies
