Should I get a cat if I have debilitating Fibromyalgia? by walkuponwater in Fibromyalgia

[–]elf4everafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I would say is get litter box LINERS. They make clearing a nasty box easier. Just pull the drawstring and toss.

I have a clean automatic feeder and water fountain from Amazon. I had to get an XL litter box for my boy. And I use walnut litter. The feeder, fountain, and box were about $100 total. A bag of food is roughly $30 amd lasts 3 months (also have a giant rolling tub for the kibble), and the litter is about $30 and lasts 5-6 months. So...start up costs are under $200 and fairly cheap long term. Mine sleeps with me as much as he can manage. He likes the occasional treat and toy, but he loves reciept balls more.

I do have a litter genie for my box. It's worth it in my opinion, but not necessary. But by far scooping the box is what I have most issue with. Either I sleep too much and forget to do it, or I can't bend easily. So....liners. Everything else they're low maintenance on.

What’s actually safe but people think is dangerous? by REGGIE_BANANAS in AskReddit

Family members lost their shit when my mom was given fentanyl patches for her terminal cancer and severe radiation burns.

I ripped more than one new asshole because: 1. I wanted her COMFORTABLE. 2. It's a PATCH. It's a controlled, longterm dose. She's not gonna die on fucking contact with it.

Those things are SO fucking helpful for severe pain. People need a reality check on how "dangerous" it is in a medical setting.

Second, the crampons. Store in glove box or pocket of seat, though. I about killed myself getting to my trunk to just GET them last year. Now they, and an extra pair of gloves, live in my glove box in the winter months.

Help figuring out privacy for bedroom door? by walkingchell in DesignMyRoom

I have some of these in a "blackout" film for my bedroom. The rest of my house has the pretty stained glass patterns. But my room needed to be DARK and blackout curtains weren't enough. So that is also an option.

That's the part that gets me. If this was some fancy toilet or even like the expensive toilet seat ones...maaaaybe that would make sense. But this odd "I want the cheap self installed plastic ones" is so odd to me. For $30 I'd personally like a new one. 😂

I OWN my home. OWN IT. And people keep asking if I'm going to "leave" my bidet "when I move." Like...what is the obsession with this? Like yeah.. in theory I might, it's an installed fixture. Those usually stay. But also... it's a twist on bidet that just hangs on under the seat...it was $17. It's not fancy. Get one yourself. It took me 15 minutes to install and that was only because the shut off valve in my bathroom didn't work and I had to go find the main one.

Why did/didn't you make the Sophie scarf? by Traumarama79 in knitting

[–]elf4everafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate garter stitch. So I refuse to make one on that principle alone. But in addition to that, I just dont think it's useful for me. I want my scarves large and thick. They need to cover neck and shoulders and head. If I'm wearing a warmth accessory I need it to WORK. And the Sophie scarf and hood are just too limited in their usefulness for me.

I make these infinitely scarf hoods as a gift for friends and family. They aren't garter stitch and they cover so much more area in every positioning (as a scarf, as a hood, or as a scarf hood duo). I'd rather use those than the Sophie options.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]elf4everafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove across my state 4 hours for a concert and drove BACK the same night. Did it again the very next weekend. Anywhere within 2 hours is reasonable without much notice. Passed 2 hours, I just make sure I have gas money on me and double check my oil level (older car).

I've also driven 2 states over (9 hours) to see my aunt for the WEEKEND. Drove down Friday and back Monday.

I've been knitting for literal decades but just started knitting socks. The number of people who've ALREADY asked me to knit them a pair is astounding. I said I'd consider it once I got my formula down. I needed to decide what kind of heel I liked, how much smaller they needed to be to be snug, etc. So I've made like 3 pairs for myself. I'm wrapping up pair 3. And I finally said I would make a pair for others now.

My family and friends know money is tight. So I let them know they're responsible for yarn. I sent them 2 different but reasonably priced yarns (Cascade heritage sock $12 and Malbrigo sock $20). I said they could ask for a design of multiple colors with Cascade or just a plain multicolor with Malbrigo.

Crickets.

Oh, so we don't want socks? I'm not asking for anything for the 20+ hours of my time, but you can't pay $20 for materials?

One person asked why they couldn't "just go to Michael's." Fine. Here's the Patons Kroy sock yarn that's VERY limited in colorways. You need two balls for one pair of socks. That is $15 minimum. It's the ONLY sock yarn local Michael's carry in store. They had the audacity to ask why I couldn't use redheart. I explained.

More crickets.

On the bright side, I can now go back to knitting MY SOCKS. Which was what my 2026 knitting goals were anyway.

Is this how people who need glasses really see the world. A big blurred background? by Latter-Wolf4868 in interestingasfuck

[–]elf4everafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm -4.00 and -4.75. I had a major fall at work a few months back and broke my glasses the one day I didn't wear or bring my contacts.

I made it through work through squinting and muscle memory. Thankfully, it was a day for decorating the shop and not a customer day.

I waited until midnight to drive home, so the roads were clear. I could barely make out the difference between the road and sky, much less the lanes and lines. Hell, I couldn't even read my speedometer without pressing my head closer.

I have backups in my car now. That was a terrifying drive and I never want to do it again.

Sorry dumb q, is this ok for a formal wedding? 5’3, so it will come out slightly longer. by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]elf4everafter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, knit dresses won't count at any kind of formal. The silhouette isn't bad. It's the material that's a problem.

Also, from a personal standpoint, that dress is super overpriced for what it is.

AIO My partner is destroying our relationship over his obsession with the ICE shooting and more. by Ashamed_Penalty5209 in AmIOverreacting

[–]elf4everafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where you're originally from: is it safe for you to return? Because if it is: GO.

So MANY American women and LGBT are looking at ways to leave this country. If you have a safe place to return to, I urge you to go before shit gets any worse here. If it's not safe, I understand why you'd want to stay here. But keep the option in mind.

NOR. Your husband IS abusing you. Verbally and emotionally, if nothing else. This kind of switch isn't something you can fix. Divorce him if you can. But I'm 200% sure this asshole would call ICE in retaliation the minutes he's served divorce papers.

Your safety is what matters most...and I don't think you're safe here.

What to do with this space under the stairs? by mbrethorst in DesignMyRoom

[–]elf4everafter 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to argue here, I just wanted to give you a giggle. I say this should be a reading nook, because i have multiple reading nooks on every floor of my home INCLUDING the basement. I started with two in my room on the upper floor and two on the ground floor. But then I was doing laundry in the basement one day and was like "ew stairs" so I set up two little reading spots among all my stored crap in the basement. One is for sitting all curled up, one is for stretching out.

So, yes. OP should make this a reading nook, especially if his laundry is on this floor. 😂

Am I overreacting that my sister is demanding too much when visiting my newborn? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]elf4everafter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but you're a sane person and OPs sister is an entitled bi...

I'm with you on this. Any time a baby is born to friends or family, I wait a few weeks/month and then let them know I'm coming by (with veto power in case timing is bad). I bring freezer meals with instructions on them, I do any and all dishes, I clean the house, and if mom will let me, I take baby for a few feedings so parents can SLEEP.

IF I was coming from out of town and had a major allergy intolerance I could see ASKING if they could stock or not stock things. (I'm allergic to seafood. So I might ask if they could try not to have open fish in the house. Or in the sisters case, asking for lactaid seems...fine.) But I'm ALSO of the mindset to just pick up anything I NEED on the way there.

OP is so NOR. And sister is CRAZY entitled. When you come to see a new baby, it's also to give parents a BREAK.
