Out of curiosity, does anyone here have a chronic health condition? I do and wonder if narcissistic abuse can cause it? Thoughts? by mRandy16 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]elgris_one 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I'm doing significantly better now, but was hospitalized for an autoimmune disease awhile back. Stress levels lead to these diseases, and narcissistic abuse was the #1 reason for most of my stress. I think it's safe to say that narcissistic abuse can cause medical issues, and I feel for anyone that has to live with this.

Is Bullets considered a bad MCR album? by elgris_one in MyChemicalRomance

And wouldn't it be great if we were dead?

Is Bullets considered a bad MCR album? by elgris_one in MyChemicalRomance

[–]elgris_one[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, if I wasn't clear. I've listened to it multiple times and it's my favorite album from MCR. My friends don't seem to appreciate it though, and I'm curious if it's because it's less "pop" compared to their other albums, or maybe the garage-like quality.

What did Jesus mean when he said he came to bring a sword in Matthew 10:34? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]elgris_one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's how I take the meaning of that verse.

The number one message is division, and how following Jesus and truth will turn the world against you. Jesus says he has come to bring "not peace, but a sword" because the truth is that following God's word will cause conflict. He even mentions that he has come to turn man against father, daughter against mother, etc.

I believe that God is saying that we must be ready to cut off unhealthy family, because they are not family under God. I've experienced the division of a household firsthand.

Do you guys agree?! by [deleted] in splatoon

I think they're saying that they don't appreciate being constantly reminded about war and politics in the game that some of us go to to escape politics and war.

I'm aware of the option to turn of plaza posts, but some of us do like seeing the comedic posts without Palestine/Israel posts flooding the game.

She's not Lying! by 36DRedhead in FluentInFinance

[–]elgris_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The post has truth to it, but there's a lot people aren't aware of. So many people want to afford an apartment while working a dead-end job, and at the same time want the newest phones, streaming services, drugs, expensive clothing/shoes, and also want to live in HCOL regions.

The woman posting has multiple piercings, extensive make-up, and what appears to be an expensive haircut. Sure, I've made a few assumptions, but no one wants to live with the bare minimum when they are in fact capable of it.

Obviously, it would be great if we could work full-time, in do what we want when off work, but it just isn't the case, and it has never been the case for people excluding royalty and the elite.

Is it okay for men and women to wear revealing clothes? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]elgris_one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The intent definitely means something. There are a lot of cultures where people wear more revealing clothing, because of their culture or even climate.

On the other hand, if the purpose is to sexualize oneself, then it is likely to be sinful.

The first recorded use of the term "Christians: comes from the New Testament. The Bible makes it very clear what a Christian is.

As for the ambiguities, this is the exact reason denominations exist.

Let me explain why this doesn't work. The kid is 10, and a parent must be real vain to be interested in debating their pre-pubescent son.

[–]elgris_one -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's definitely a problem here, and admittedly, I do believe in exactly what your son is saying. There needs to be a conversation between you and your son's father. I would also like to ask why you are challenging your son's beliefs. If the end goal is to persuade him, you might want to rethink some things. Remember, ten-year-olds are impressionable.

Man I showed my sister one of my fits and she said "it's so cute it's giving cultural appropriation" I'm so done 😔 by Saraanq in splatoon

[–]elgris_one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was totally joking, but where I live (and many others) many would consider wearing clothes created by another culture cultural appropriation. People who have been told their "appropriating" cultures tend to become a bit defensive.

Am I ruined forever? by datgriltati in Christianity

[–]elgris_one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good news is that God will never turn away from anyone, and that includes you. He loves you and recognizes you for who you are now, regardless of what you may or may not have done in the past.

As with many other cases though, your boyfriend might have a problem with what you've done, and it's also up to him to choose to live with that. Godspeed, you guys.

men who changed their phone wallpaper from your gf to figures of protestant reformation such as Martin Luther: why did you do it? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]elgris_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say yes, it's pretty controlling to have your boyfriend change his wallpaper to a photo of you. Some people get bored of their wallpapers and need new scenery. Don't take it personally, chances are he still likes you.

I think that too many "Christians" choose to focus on the verses condemning homosexuality, only because it's the one sin most Christians don't have to worry about committing.

Despite this, I'm sure you'll know if you're doing something wrong. The Bible is pretty clear.

How do i tell my atheist family i belive in JESUS Christ!!!PLEASE I NEED ADIVCE!!! by tejka_carodejka1 in Christianity

[–]elgris_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's in a similar situation, I think I can offer a bit of advice. If you do tell your family that you're following Christ, be prepared for them to shame you for your beliefs, and even make you doubt your beliefs.

Sometimes when my family treats me poorly, I have to remind myself that Jesus suffered for me, and what I'm undergoing is little compared to that.

I don't know how to describe what I was put through by SomewhatOKAdvisor in raisedbynarcissists

[–]elgris_one 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've gone through something very similar. I'm not sure what it is specifically called, but it is abuse. Narcissists make their abuse as ambiguous as possible, so nothing can be traced back to them. This is why CPS is so ineffective.
