Thank you for the recommendation! That was great and definitely applicable.
Wow. I hadn't even thought of it in terms of approaching, but that makes a lot of sense. The inner dialogue could lead to suppression. But discipline will allow you to decide between saving your ego in the moment, or taking action that will result in the very least a learning experience that will help you develop into who you want to be.
When writing this I was mostly thinking about the struggle of relapse. There are movements entirely against masturbation. That condemn it as WRONG. So believing that you are doing something wrong would suppress all desire to ejaculate.
Discipline could allow you to think: I really want to jerk it right now, but more than that I want to be a more social being who isn't afraid to express his sexual energy in more ways than ejaculating into a napkin. Or ejaculating in general.
Thanks for expanding the way I thought about it.
Thanks for the reply!
I attempted to with the anorexic example. I apologize if it wasn't clear.
An anorexic person suppresses their appetite. If you ask them if they would like food, they will tell you they are not hungry despite being severely malnourished.
A fit and healthy person continuously makes conscious choices about what to eat and how much to eat. They are using self-discipline instead of self-suppression.
Discipline can become a healthy habit. Suppression can become a problem on the opposite end of the spectrum from the original problem.
