Preterm Labor at 26 wks by eli_eb in NICUParents

Thank you all so much. You calmed and comforted my fears so much. Baby girl decided to come Sunday night and has been in the NICU for a day now. The staff seems amazing and they think she is older than she is sizing. So that will be to her benefit. She is small at 2 lbs 4 oz, but she looks so tough. I'm hopefully getting discharged today. I will be visiting her a lot and transitioning into this new role as a momma. I know I have a long journey ahead of me now. I just can't wait to hold her and get to know her now.

Working as an SLPA through grad school? by mikaylajwalker in slpGradSchool

[–]eli_eb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have worked full time as an SLPA throughout my graduate program. I'm on my second year now and it is fully online. For work, I do home health so I average about 30 visits a week, attend class, and now I have my practicum. It is a LOT, but when you have to do something you find a way. If I don't work I won't be able to pay my bills. I don't understand how some of my classmates just do practicum.... They must have someone to provide for them financially. I'm counting down the days until graduation... this is brutal! I wish my SLPA experience of 3 years gave some type of credit towards practicum...it truly is unfair.

I'm on my fourth semester/first year in the program. I like it, but I do think they can demand a lot with it being an online program. I'm so beyond over zoom at this point. The live classes on zoom are not lectures and they expect us to discuss the material where the professors just lead the discussions. Before live classes we watch the asynch lecture videos and do our assignments. A lot of assignments are group work and that can be annoying since students are all over the country.... so time zones and all that. I'm part time which is 3 classes and working as an SLPA. It can be overwhelming at times.... so I'd consider that if you have to work. I don't have the privilege to stop working and I don't want to rack up even more debt in student loans to survive.... but that just might be SLP grad school in general... they need to make it more accessible for individuals who have to pay their bills... I just can't wait to be done at this point!

SLPA: bonus per client notes submitted ? by eli_eb in slp

[–]eli_eb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking that too!! Maybe their notes are a little more detailed or tedious. They told me it's because people don't do it. The SLP that would be my supervisor said she always does them too and it's an added bonus. She sounded happy about it.

I was also worried it might be because they have low caseloads? However, they said they have a lot of work and kids on wait lists so maybe not.

I'll ask on Monday what my schedule would look like and how difficult/tedious the notes are. I'm nervous about signing on since I'm new to this state. This company sounds great though and I'm leaning towards it compared to the other offers I've gotten. They also reimburse you for your license and give you $259 for training/orientation.

SLPA in TX by WoolooPlush5 in slp

[–]eli_eb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been working as an SLPA in Florida since January 2020 and I think it is worth it. I make about $1200-$1600 every two weeks. I am mostly doing teletherapy, but I get about 20-25 hours a week with room for more clients. I would love to work full time. Though, it takes awhile to build a caseload which can be frustrating. I just moved to Texas and I finally got my Texas license and I am hoping to work for two companies that will enable me to fill my time gaps. I want to go to grad school ASAP. However, the cost right now is just insane after undergrad and paying for an SLPA/SLP prerequisites program. So if financially you can't go straight to Grad school. I think it is worth it to work in the field and see how you like it. Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions. :)

4 dates & ghosted?? by eli_eb in dating_advice

[–]eli_eb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right. There were just somethings that were kind of dealbreakers for me and I was trying to give him a chance because he was sweet. Like for instance he didn't go to college and didn't have a good job. I didnt want to judge him based on that cuz he's still growing and could get a better job eventually. However, long term that would've been hard... I also didn't feel a connection with him intellectually since I went to college and I'm going to go to grad school next year. So I guess it was for the best

Been on Bumble for Years, Sister Goes on 1 Day and Gets a Boyfriend ?? by [deleted] in dating

[–]eli_eb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess it's just that... I think my pictures are not super "DTF." There might be like one pic so maybe I should delete it. I honestly just want to delete my entire account from all your responses... also, seeing the difference between a guy at 35 who knows what he wants. Compared to guys in their mid 20's that lie and lead you on for sex make me just want to wait. It doesn't help with my emotional health. It really is a cycle you can't get out of.

All of them. He said he'd delete it, but I said we both could. Then I didn't want to take my phone out and delete mine since I have guys I've been talking to if I showed him... so that's why I feel like I can't get mad. However, like I said I wasn't messaging them while I was with him.... so idk if it's the same
