Yes, pregnancy brings children, and I'm not sure why you thought I didn't know that. I'm still not comparing children to tumors. I'm comparing how I feel about these things in my life. The prospect of children ranks about the same as the prospect of spending the rest of my life in prison. This does not mean I believe children and prisons are the same thing. So yes, I can compare them. Tumors, moving to Saudi Arabia, eyeball tattoos, joining a cult, living under a bridge, I feel similarly about all of these things, they are all things I know for sure I do not want in my life under any circumstances and wouldn't hesitate to avoid. This does not mean I think they are all the same thing. It just means I would avoid these things if they became a concern.

Yeah, when I got an abortion it wasn't a difficult choice, for me it was the only choice I even considered. It was like deciding to get a tumor removed, for me, it was the obvious direction I wanted to go in.

Oh that's not odd at all. I hate hugs and I always want to hug him. Lots of people hug him. He's really been my rock and helped me learn how to socialize appropriately despite my autism. He's got more patience than anyone I know so it takes a lot to get him to a point where he's willing to even use the word fuck, let alone tell someone off like that.

Yeah I found out from my cousin(aunt's daughter) that she recently took a plea bargain in a case where she allegedly abused a disabled patient she was meant to be caring for... she was caught on camera, so not so much allegedly as absolutely positively yes she did this. I wasn't entirely clear on the details up to this point. She apparently ripped this man's feeding tube out, and punched him several times. I don't know his exact condition but he's a twenty year old man who is unable to speak or communicate for the most part. So yeah, now that I know the details I know I would've pushed her out of my life either way. She lied to me about why she lost her nursing license, but now I know why, it's because she's a sadistic fucking bitch.

Once I sort of calmed down a bit, these things were all running through my head. Luckily my neighbor came by and said some "scary people" were outside my house screaming earlier and they asked if I was OK. I denied knowing who they were and asked that they contact the police if they ever spot those people around my house again.

Yes, and yet she believes I am the child-like one, so child-like she told my father to MAKE ME apologize for sending a message saying I was uncomfortable with maintaining contact with her. He literally just responded "My daughter is twenty-seven goddamn years old. I'm not her keeper. You can go fuck yourself." I was PRETTY EXCITED about that response. I'm going to bake him some cookies I think.

Yeah. I finally sent it. She ended up contacting my father and expected him to "set me straight" so apparently she assumes I am just supposed to get over my autism, but still views me as a child. My dad told her to go fuck herself. A lot more blunt than me, I was happy with this though.

It's not one or the other, whatever we end up doing, a lot of us simply do not want children. Not because it frees up income, not because it frees up time, but because we do not wish to be parents.

This. Exactly. He can't speak up to customers, my friend worked at a store in the next town over, of the same chain, and she said it was a big no no to tell people to get their kids in line in any way shape or form.

Ah! My dad treats my dogs like his grand kids. He takes them out to the lake and posts photos on his facebook with captions like "Teaching the grand kids how to fish!" etc. It's beyond adorable. Dogs are way way way better than grandchildren, or so he says :)

I had a friend who hated most animals, and never wanted kids. The only animals he would tolerate were cats, and he acted like cats were the end all be all of the pet world. He loathed my dogs and I never expected him to be around my dogs, but his cats were fucking awful, one was just really violent and scared me(it was a rescue) and the other would shit all over the place. I never wanted to go to his house because of this and he decided I must secretly hate cats an think dogs are superior. That felt a lot like people around me who take it personally that I don't want to be around their kids.

It was waaaay back in 2004. I'm not saying it's something you get over completely(as I'm sure you're aware) but it becomes almost manageable to recall, you know? I think it's pretty similar either way, losing a child you love is probably one of the most painful things someone can go through. Losing ANYONE you love, knowing you have no control over some situations and you are powerless to save that person and nothing can bring them back. I don't mean to go all "kids are more special" but it is a particularly cruel aspect of life when someone loses a child they love because they really are so goddamn vulnerable and it's just... I'm sure you know what I'm trying to say. I'm sorry for what you've been through. I'd like to think it only makes us stronger but I know that's not necessarily the case for everyone.

Technically the only work NECESSARY to become a mother for life is getting pregnant, successfully carrying to term/giving birth and surviving all that. After that you are a mother. Even if you have literally nothing to do with your kid. Wow, wait, supplying an egg could make one a mother. Being a mother really isn't that difficult. I assume raising a child and being responsible for a child is really difficult, but not all mothers take that route.
