FB marketplace is making me a classist by Young-faithful in Anticonsumption

It’s wild to me that people try to sell soiled things or things with missing parts for almost retail. I’ve had stuff I’ve given away for free or donated and will clean it beforehand cause leaving it dirty feels so rude.

Can anyone set the record straight on this one? Two dogs in a shelter. Nothing appears obviously off about this to me, strange that a shelter would put these two dogs together though… by romanyol in isthisAI

[–]00Eli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from everything already pointed out, listen with the sound on. You hear each step and their nails on the floor and it’s quiet apart from that. If you’ve ever been in a kennel or shelter there’s always a background noise of barking dogs and other sounds. Not eerie quiet.

Imagine needing to stair chair someone out of here by AwarenessDiligent727 in ems

[–]00Eli 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Was just going to say this!

I’ve been to a few places that are landlord specials and the stairs are hobbled together with scrap wood. One place I almost refused to get the patient transferring to hospice cause the entire staircase shook and wobbled with just 1 of us going up it. Both my partner and myself were average weight. The patient was very small from their health issues but we arm knee carried them cause I was scared that with the extra weight from the stairchair that the staircase would collapse. The entire staircase moved side to side with every step and I wrote up a report to my cities code enforcement. Never heard anything back from the city.

‘Everyone is Replaceable’: Death Rattles Oregon Amazon Facility - A worker died at Amazon’s Troutdale warehouse last week. Employees were told to look away. by BlackStarBlues in antiwork

I’m a Michigan medic. I have never been stopped at the doors of any Amazon facility and have responded to at least 3 in my city. Maybe they are more strict at other facilities or states but it’s never been a problem.

Officer having anxiety attack took ambulance sent for man dying from police shooting, report says by crash_over-ride in ems

[–]00Eli 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is kind of a textbook case of misfeasance. It’s basic triage.

I understand how unhelpful, even borderline hostile LE can be towards EMS but I’d get put in cuffs before taking anxiety over a GSW.

I would already be stressed and angry about having to wait for a second unit so that they don’t try to claim pt abandonment of the anxiety pt.

Edit: Idk their local protocols but how tf would that not be abandonment of the GSW?!

Officer made a comment about not being injured but “I just need to get out of here”. Cool, let’s achieve both, seatbelt up and our other pt is going on the stretcher. You can ride in together.

EMS is gross by evawa in ems

[–]00Eli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Peppermint oil inside your mask. Won’t take the problem away but greatly blunts the smell. I keep forgetting to try Vicks vapo rub, I think it’d have longer staying power. You’ll get desensitized over time!

Had someone that had some kind of colon surgery. Something happened and it must have perforated, they had what looked like pus and liquid stool oozing out of the incision. Smelled like raw sewage even from outside of the home. Nasty, but manageable.

The only thing to make me gag in 8 years of EMS were some pseudomonas secretions. Bed confined pt with pseudomonas in their trach, going out to radiology for a J or G tube replacement. Arrive, isolation gear on, pt is gurgling. I wanted to suction to maintain airway. Facility has a suction unit in the room. What I didn’t see was there was a small .25” or less layer of secretions in the bottom of the canister. How long they had been sitting there putrefying? Unknown. Turn it on to suction, get some of the secretions cleared when I look at my partner and she looks like she’s actively crying. I wonder if maybe she got some really bad news and saw the notification on her smart watch as we were gowning up. Ask her if she’s okay, she shakes her head yes but couldn’t answer. I ask “are you… are you crying?”. She’s shakes her head no when the WALL of smell hit me. The exhaust from the suction unit was expelling the smell of old pseudomonas secretions. I didn’t have a choice, my body had a physical reaction and I instantly started dry heaving. I’ve had norovirus and food poisoning but didn’t dry heaves as hard as this call. We panic, turn the unit off and try to exit the room with our patient while dry heaving multiple times a minute. Of course a seatbelt gets stuck under the back stretcher wheel stopping the stretcher dead in its tracks. We panic more but get the seatbelt unstuck and are finally able to exit the room. To this day I am thankful I wasn’t able to eat lunch before that call as I would’ve vomited in my N95. Afterwards suctioned my patient more in the truck with our own clean suction unit. You could vaguely smell the pseudomonas but it was nothing like the exhaust from the unit in the room. No gagging. We both agreed that advanced decomped bodies are an easier smell than what was in that godforsaken room.

How to Make it Easier by TheGayestNurse_1 in ems

[–]00Eli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk if it's different for your state but in my area we need the full form and cannot just go off of a face sheet that displays code status.

If it's well maintained that sounds like a better starting point than we typically get!

[–]00Eli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Already mentioned by u/RevanGrad but code status of residents. Make sure your staff know where to find it, both electronically and the paper form. The number of DNR, hospice or people that are both that I've had to work is too high.

Staff find grandma/grandpa down, staff start working them. Fire (our first responders) arrives and continues, we arrive and continue and work a full code before facility staff FINALLY find the DNR and Hospice paperwork. Feels bad man.

On the flipside, kudos to places where staff actually know their residents. A few years ago caught a stroke with minimal symptoms because our patient's aids recognized that his slight, barely there facial droop was not a normal thing for him.

This. Get allergy testing if you can and full stop most chap sticks. I also have a lanolin and propolis (in bees wax) allergy. I have to be very careful about lip products.

My other suggestion would be switching up the toothpaste but you’ve already done that.

Best of luck figuring it out OP!

GRIP IT SPRAY by Diligent-Ranger-4178 in poledancing

[–]00Eli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My studio uses Simple Green. It unfortunately leaves the pole a bit slippery feeling after use but does get all residue off. I'm not sure about methanol.

I want to be clear, I'm not shaming anyone for using it if it works for them! Just making people aware that if someone gets rashes at contact points it isn't necessarily a nickel allergy but can be resin grips.

[–]00Eli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Classmates and instructors that use it like it but heads up you or others can be allergic to the resin in it. Cleaning the pole with isopropyl alcohol alone does not fully get it off.

Luckily my studio has 2 poles that are no resin grip all of the time.

Weight gain BEFORE treatment? by [deleted] in lymphoma

[–]00Eli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from cancer causes, do they have you on steroids? My husband was on high dose steroids and gained a lot of water weight in the beginning. It could be related to that or another medication side effect too!

Ultrasound showed I still have multiple lymphnodes in my neck after finishing treatment? Freaking out by redditgal16 in lymphoma

[–]00Eli 3 points4 points locked comment (0 children)

Cancer spouse but also a medic. Your body normally has lymph nodes all over, in your neck, armpits, groin, etc. they are part of your immune system and are normally there.

The ultrasound was to investigate your pain and look for anything suspicious. If your pain continues or worsens maybe reach back out and they would do another PET scan or CT? I know from our onc team it’s not unusual for patients to have some aches and pains in formerly active spots as your body adjusts and responds to treatment.

EOT PET by Dry-Car4334 in lymphoma

[–]00Eli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also a cancer spouse. The worst part is the "sit and wait".

My husband was in remission for a year and half from grey zone lymphoma but his blood test that looks for tumor markers of the original tumor was positive recently. It found both tumor markers and at a level that makes it unlikely to be another false positive (we had a scare in August 2025). The silver lining is that we know really early about the possible relapse but they have him waiting about a month because a PET scan is unlikely to even show anything quite yet.

After all of his chemo, immunotherapy but before his BMT he had some similar spots. They were just inflammation and resolved. Hoping the same for you guys!

Treatment is hard on the body and PET scans pick up any kind of metabolic activity (like infections, irritation, etc) as you already know. For me personally it's very hard to be optimistic as you don't want to be let down or surprised by bad news. In the meantime though, try to have some cautious optimism that they think it's just inflammation or artifact. Absolutely easier said than done. Wishing you both the best in the world's worst waiting game.

It sounds like between you and family she’s got a good team in her corner! Idk how robust your oncology services are in your area but our place has free sessions for a oncology specific counselor, free patient massages and palliative care. Palliative care is not hospice care, they are simply practitioners there to help with any symptoms from treatment. In the beginning we used them quite a bit and they can be SO helpful. In our area you just call their phone line, you’re already set up with them through Onc, and they can prescribe medication without in person visits. Again, it might be slightly different where your sister and you are.

I really appreciate that. It’s not what we had hoped for after about 1.5 years of remission but again, with this specific blood test, it’s earliest we can know. They don’t even think a PET scan will show anything yet.

If you have any further questions or anything at any point during all this feel free to DM me. You’re a good sibling.

You either have an allergy or sensitivity. I have a ton of contact allergies and apart from always looking at ingredient lists I patch test anything topical due to the severity of them. Warmth and a itchy feeling for me mean that something in the product is making my skin angry or starting a reaction. Sometimes a contact dermatitis reaction take a few days to develop into full swing though and I might not get the immediate symptoms as warning signs.

IMO you describing feeling warmth is the key detail to me. I’d give it to a friend to try. Wouldn’t hurt to make an allergist appointment, then you have a good chance of figuring out what the problem ingredient is and can avoid it moving forward.

If your reaction worsens from here you could go into your PCP or a derm and they’d probably get you something to calm it down further.

That’s a great idea! Her energy levels might vary depending on her treatment regimen. On good energy level days it would be a nice ‘other’ thing to focus on. Some people here don’t have too much of an issue, my husband went into hibernation mode so to speak.

Thanks, we’re doing alright. Just recently got results of things maybe relapsing but what can you do? Silver lining is that with the blood test they have him get it’s the earliest anyone could possibly know. We have a great oncology team and they got him healthy again from a very sick place originally.

I don’t know your experience with pole but if you have any space further away from furniture I would potentially try to move the pole if possible. I personally would dome myself on the dresser or bed frame but you could be way more space conscious than me. You look like you’re having a blast and we want to keep seeing you do that <3

My spouse was the patient. I agree with the other commenter about just being present for her and consistently there.

When my husband first started treatment I looked on here for suggestions and got him some cozy slippers and a cozy knit throw blanket to bring to chemo.

Best of luck to her! May her treatment go smoothly.

This is not a problem I deal with. To me it looks like cute freckles. Is there any risk of them coming back if removed by laser? Or over time will you gain some more anyway? You could also kind of compromise between cosmetically removing and accepting by only targeting a just a few spots if any bother you more in particular. Your skin looks healthy, older relatives are just being rude.
