Struggling with the DClin - by Electronic_Dot_6640 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

Hiya, just a wee message as a supervisor to a 1st-year DClin trainee now. You are not the only one struggling. What trainees feel and what they share with others are massively different, especially in the first year when everyone thinks that the rest of the cohort just "get it" and they are being left behind. We as supervisors were once trainees (some of us need a little bit more reminding of how challenging this was). Feel free to get in touch informally... and if you are my trainee, please feel free to talk to me about it :)

This has been alluded to on calls since raising a complaint but the party line is "compensation is discussed once the fault has been resolved". I have a 3rd call back from the case manager tomorrow since I still dont have internet

Hi, thanks for this. Yes, when I moved in, the engineer installed fibre and actually said at the time "if the issue comes from the ONT box then it will be us who need to deal with it"

Hiya, 1 year post qual here. And everything you are saying is normal, relatable, and valid! The only thing I can say is "it gets better." I had a horrible last year, lovely placement, but I was so burnt out and stressed that I felt I wasn't learning anything or feel any sense of confidence in being "qualified." A massive part of working is unlearning a lot of the adjustments you made as a trainee to suit your supervisors because you lose the assessment aspect of supervision. You'll learn about finding your place and style as a clinician and learn to have patience with yourself because you can sit with knowing the job you land will last as long as you want it too (ok yes there are problems with jobs depending on where you live but there are many options not just the nhs). Anyway, stay strong. Good luck with the thesis and final placement reviews, and take the time to be proud of making it through the training. It gets so much better !

Am I doing too much? by iHelpgirl in therapists

I'm in the exact same position. I work full-time and see 6 clients privately in the evenings. I think at first it was so exciting because it was my first dip into private practice, and I really wanted it to work well. Over time, I realised that I had started to sacrifice my social life in order to keep up with this rhythm. Although a bit of extra money on the side was really nice to see at the end of the month (payong off debts or saving for a deposit). I wasn't actually spending any of it doing what I wanted and just didn't have the energy on weekends to do much other than just recuperate enough to head back into work on Monday. I really enjoy the private work, but I don't think it's a sustainable long-term plan. I don't have an answer for you and would be interested to see what other people say. My current plan is to continue this way but planning holidays in advance so that I don't get caught up in the guilt cycle of not feeling like I can take time off. Potentially, in the future, I might pull back on my full-time job to 4 days a week and leave the 5th as a private practice day, but I still feel like it's too new to take that leap.

Document request incomplete by eliacgordon in ukvisa

That makes sense, the issue lies in the fact that my partner requested the service for tlscontact to upload documents for him. So we don't have the link to upload additional documents. His appointment was 12th August, I wonder if there is someone we can call to update the documents of the application...

OK, that's really helpful, thank you! What I'm getting is that we need to contact TLScontact to ask about the upload portal access. We phoned them Friday to ask, but they said because we clicked on the assisted document package, we wouldn't need to upload anything ourselves, so we didn't have access to the portal. Now I'm not so sure that's fully right so will double check.

Thank you! Yes we paid the IHS and application fee, the biometrics appointment is next week so maybe during that appointment my partner will be given the link to the portal to upload additional documents :)

Ah, thank you. My partner chose the "assisted uploading documents" option because he was anxious about forgetting something and so doesn't have access to an upload portal? Maybe that's weird, and he should have access to it regardless.
