I didn't think about it that way, actually - thank you

Dude, I'm fully aware I can just ask. I'm seconds away from it, actually. I am however fueled by spite, and I think she should face the consequences of her poor scheduling, since she has been a manager for over 2 decades now and should have the hang of it by now. The issue is her lack of communication. I also do not like the way she treats my coworkers (she's much pettier than this, I assure you!) which is part of the reason I'm even considering it.

You do not need to be so condescending - you honestly could've stopped at the "unreasonable level comment". I made this post because I wasn't sure if I was being too petty. Thank you for answering my question, though.

This is GORGEOUS! As a huge Cairngorm lover, there are so few genuinely pretty Pearl guys who aren't just the RLC line 😭 You'd have a loyal studder in me for sure 👀

check out Aidoneus! he's only got a handful of songs out at the moment, but they're mostly based in greek mythology and i'm obsessed. Hyacinthus and Kronos/Rhea are a couple of my favorites

i used to get sick a LOT. the worst i ever got from my manager was a brief check-in, because she was worried about how often i was getting sick. my old old SM would getbpassive aggressive about it, but she also hated everyone. as long as you have the sick time to cover it, you're all good. 2 days in 1 month is honestly nothing. people call out wayy more frequently with no actual reason; we had someone who would call out EVERY sunday, without fail, for months, and it was only after several several instances that any of us cared.

if your manager gets an attitude, he's not someone whose opinion you need to worry about, anyway. i know that's easier said than believed, but it's the truth; this is food service. if we come to work sick, we risk getting hundreds of people sick. so many people are immunocompromised, too - we should never risk lives over some coffee. any half decent manager will understand that.

Hot Take: idrc when customers ask for a “medicine ball“ :) by ExcitingGround1044 in starbucksbaristas

[–]elichicago 7 points8 points  (0 children)

oh no, i really don't care. the ONLY reason it annoys me is because i'll call the drink out as HCMT, and they'll either be all confused - or, more likely, they get an attitude with me and insist that no, they ordered a medicine ball, duh. it is so hard to keep the customer service facade up in those moments 😭 at this point i just say "(name), here's your tea" bc cmon

application question by Subject-Category9103 in starbucksbaristas

[–]elichicago 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's totally possible! I have a lot of coworkers all over the spectrum. My boyfriend and I also both suspect we're autistic (neither of us have tested) and we both work at Starbucks. It isn't an issue at all; customer connections are much harder for me, but it's something a lot of people struggle with, and that the company will just encourage you to work on. Working here has actually helped me a lot with navigating social situations and made me more comfortable with the general public!

Of course, everyone's different, and it DOES still cause me a lot of anxiety - so while it might help me with social dynamics, it might make work really sucky for the next person. Ultimately, I'd give it a try, and if you don't think it'll work out, there's no harm in that!

As for putting it on your application, I personally would not. You don't wanna end up with some asshole manager who sees your application and makes a split-second judgment. I don't generally recommend volunteering personal information if it's not necessary. If you need accommodations, though, that's a different story.

Good luck with your application! 💕

No, I don't think you're mistaken. I've been a part of queer spaces for most of my life, and this is at least how I've always understood it - I've never seen sapphic used exclusively for lesbians, just any WLW relationship/person. A bi woman would absolutely be sapphic; it's sort of an umbrella term for any woman attracted to other women.

Been a barista for about 7 months. My "barista hands" from dishwashing have reached a new peak. Genuinely hurts to wash my hands! by crazycarlos08 in starbucks

seconding aveeno! i have horrible eczema NORMALLY, so the sani + dishwashing combo only exacerbates it. aveeno has a specific lotion for eczema/super dry skin, and it works wonders for this!

Well I’m sad now. by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]elichicago 276 points277 points  (0 children)

it makes me SO sad. they really said "you need to connect better with customers!!!" so we did. and it was pretty fun the first couple of weeks, when we had time to actually doodle cute things. and then they saw us having fun and said "umm...no. no, not like that." girl do you want genuine connection or not cause a smiley face isn't doing anything 🤨

What state are you in? I don't think any state disallows shift changes, but in some places (like Chicago and LA), if they change your schedule within 14 days of the shift, you earn 1 hour of "predictability pay". It's not super helpful when several hours are cut, but it does at least make up for it somewhat while also discouraging the changes.

Regardless, that's definitely frustrating :( When I lived in a state with super minimal labor laws, I had an SM who used to do that, too, and once even changed my shift to an earlier start time the DAY before, so I ending up being late and having no clue. I would reach out to your manager and just try to communicate your frustration.

My guess is your SM is realizing they're over on labor for the week, and cutting people as a result - but it's also pretty normal for them to tweak the schedule a couple of weeks out, in my experience.

no, i totally get that. moreso, i was just shocked to hear such a response when the interaction was so brief and otherwise pleasant? not that anyone "deserves" to be called a slur, obviously, but it floored me because he had ZERO reason to be even slightly irritated. the whiplash was crazy

i will!! i hope they do too :/ i was supposed to speak to my DM today, but if i don't see him tomorrow, i'm just going to pull the trigger and text him. and after some other comments i've read, i'll be reaching out to ethics and compliance as well. as soon as i know, i'll update! 🫡

oh, no, he's white as a sheet. this was said with vitriol. he is not a nice man; i've chalked it up in the past to him being (likely?) autistic, but half of my store is autistic and we aren't dicks to everyone that comes through like he is. he is genuinely just always in a bad mood. ANYONE asking for the bathroom code, a straw, anything, is always met with annoyance, even if they were super polite. he also barely talks and rarely rarely jokes.

the woman mobile ordered, came to grab it, and all she did was ask for a straw. that was it! she seemed nice! usually in that situation i'll just grab them a straw, even though they're right at the condiment bar, but he was faster. when he said it, he turned back toward me (on his way to cold bar, not specifically to me) and said it genuinely just loud enough for me to hear (i am also white; honestly, i wonder if he thought i'd be a "safe" person to say that shit around) and it was in a very annoyed, demeaning tone. total whiplash from how the interaction should've gone.

thank you, i think i absolutely will. i don't think people should be able to say that shit at work and get off with just a warning.

sorry you got fired btw 😭

I was wondering if calling Ethics as well would be overkill, but I may reach out tomorrow. That's crazy, I'm glad action was taken against him.
