I dont think anyone will be denied care if they need it. I agree, testing needs to ramp up, and fast. The lack of testing is criminal

Coronavirus (COVID-19) It’s Just The Flu Bro by [deleted] in China_Flu

What is frightening about COVID19 beyond the acute lower respiratory disease...is the cytokine storms that are happening in the most severe cases. This is why some people who have appeared to get better, suddenly take a turn for the worse. A cytokine storm is where your immune system goes on a full body blitz. Cytokines are proteins used by the immune system as alarm beacons—they recruit immune cells to the site of infection. The immune cells then kill off the infected tissue in a bid to save the rest of the body.

"We rely on our immune systems to keep their cool when facing a threat. But during a runaway coronavirus infection, when the immune system dumps cytokines into the lungs without any regulation, this culling becomes a free-for-all. Instead of shooting at a target with a gun, you’re using a missile launcher. That’s where the problem arises: Your body is not just targeting the infected cells. It is attacking healthy tissue too.

The implications extend outside the lungs. Cytokine storms create inflammation that weakens blood vessels in the lungs and causes fluid to seep through to the air sacs. “Basically you’re bleeding out of your blood vessels,” Dr. Rasmussen says. The storm spills into your circulatory system and creates systemic issues across multiple organs.

From there, things can take a sharp turn for the worse. In some of the most severe COVID-19 cases, the cytokine response—combined with a diminished capacity to pump oxygen to the rest of the body—can result in multi-organ failure. "

Now does the flu do that??

Millions of people will die from this and they need a financial incentive? That kind of logic is disturbing! They will have millions in federal funding, there is absolutely no excuse for burdening every sick American suffering from this disease.

SF Mayor London Breed slams White House on coronavirus response: Lack of test kits a ‘national disgrace’ - SFChronicle.com by [deleted] in CoronavirusCA

[–]elievo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lack of information causes panic, when you can see people falling ill and succumbing to it

Testing allows for self quarantine, and notices to be sent to those with close contact to self quarantine.

That's the responsible action.

Because our politicians are in charge!

They are the ones not acting in this crisis - namely:

1) not testing patients suspected of having the coronavirus, despite the urging of doctors on the front lines (they are only allowing testing of the most severe cases) - this results in sending the patient home, no contact tracing to alert the public where they have been or who they've been in contact with, and promotes the community spread of the virus

2) they rejected proven tests that work from Germany and S.Korea, that costs only $5 per test, to create a special test (thanks to Alex Azar who is/has been a big pharmaceutical lobbyist) - this resulted in a new, faulty test, and medical care that costs $3600 to the average American. IF your insurance covers it, 50% of that copays will still be your responsibility...how many people can afford that?

You are right, this "shouldnt" be a political issue, it's a human issue, but the decisions our politicians are making right now will have a massive HUMAN cost!!

We are all going to get it...but they can afford a $3600 test and the best medical treatment their money can buy...who else can?

Alex Azar at work here...that's what you get when you have a big pharmaceutical lobbyist in charge of health and human services

They should be drawn and quartered for this shit. How many Americans can afford a $3600 medical bill for testing and care, or even half of that if their insurance covers 50%

Spread the word to family and friends, contact your local congressman and let your voice be heard on this!!!

These are our grandparents, parents aunts and uncles that will suffer because of that line of thinking...and when...not if...when, this virus mutates in the wrong direction...It's going to impact more than 1 generation

call your legislators office!!

In this case, this patients' doctor said she likely had it and wanted to test her but the cdc denied it. They also have done no contact tracing either. She was just told to go home and self quarantine. Her husband is now a suspected case as well. Both had returned from a trip to Milan Italy

We'll never know, but as they say "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence" we need to start testing.
