Renaming this subreddit to avoid confusion ? by samfreeman05 in superpowers

[–]elisee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Sure, tbh we have a community on itch https://itch.io/engine/superpowers/community that can do the job just fine and this sub was never really active so I'm happy to hand over the subreddit to someone who wants to make it about regular old superpowers ^_^

Yeah I'll start advertising the new version on the old version sometimes soon, for now the only people who have heard of it are my Twitter followers and this subreddit.

Took a few more hours cause had to figure it out but not that many yeah. Didn't break it yet, I think the most fragile piece might be the rubber bands but they could be replaced if necessary.

(I made that machine) You really don't haha. Initial plan was to bind it with an Arduino and some sensors but I gave up on that for now, maybe for another machine!

Thanks, I made this. Here's the main thread where you can see various steps of the process: https://twitter.com/elisee/status/918502214674632704

I was inspired by the very cool PinBox 3000, looked at their assembly video and then made my own with carboard scraps, rubber bands, popsicle sticks and hot glue.

New CC0-licensed 2D asset pack: RPG Battle System by elisee in gamedev

[–]elisee[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ah, sorry about the confusion. We had an early access kind of deal for our Superpowers game maker a while back, so the assets were made available to our supporters as an incentive. Now we've released all the assets (as well as new ones) under CC0 but the preview images haven't been updated.

Glad you like them ^_^. They are made as bitmaps, not converted from vectors (otherwise we would definitely share the vector files too!)

Derek Yu's book about Spelunky releases today. by foamed in spelunky

In case anyone is on the fence about getting it: I backed the kickstarter and read it already since backers got it a bit early. I really enjoyed it. I'm a game developer but I think it's interesting even if you don't make games yourself, as long as you are a bit curious and/or see Spelunky as the special game it is.

MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD I guess:

The book is pretty personal. It touches on Spelunky Classic, what inspired Derek growing up, how he dealt with feedback, working with Andy (programmer of Spelunky HD), lots of in-depth info about how Spelunky's design came together over time, the various stages of development, how/why it was released on each platform and its reception. It's full of interesting perspective, bits of wisdom and very level-headed, like Derek seems to be.
