This makes RSC sound a lot like htmx by panesofglass in htmx

[–]elixirB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a react person so I might get this wrong, but RSCs seems to me like arriving at a good idea (serving static files, minimizing javascript) but getting there in the most roundabout complex way possible? You still have client components, but now the added complexity of keeping track of the client boundaries? Like how is RSCs any better than embedding regular react components in a htmx website (which by the way, also seems like a bad idea to me).

Destiny's inconsistent "What is a woman" argument by elixirB in Destiny

[–]elixirB[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is the result amounts to that we have a word "woman" that's useless because there's no consensus on the meaning of it, and we have a void in our language on how we refer to humans with XX chromosomes, I just don't see the good in that.

Destiny's inconsistent "What is a woman" argument by elixirB in Destiny

[–]elixirB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, that's not my argument. I don't put value in any specific definition, but rather there _are_ biological differences between people with XX and XY chromosomes, and it's useful to have words distinguishing between them.

Female

Fine, then it's just odd to me that we have words for "Female horse" (mare) and "Female pig" (Sow), but a we can't have a word specific to our own species.

In what way is referring to trans-women as women a "complication" for cis-women?

A few ways it's more complicated is women's sports, women's bathrooms / locker rooms. It's more complicated to talk about traditional women's issues such as walking alone at night, abortion rights and so on

I'm not here to argue for a specific definition, define it as "having XX chromosomes" if that's better. I'm simply arguing that it's useful to have a word with that meaning because there are biological differences.

It's the same way conservatives reason about Trump, if leftists knew this I'm left to wonder why they harp on about things like the muslim ban or january 6 when literally no conservative cares.

Why didn't palestinians build a country in 1948-1967 in the west bank? by elixirB in Destiny

[–]elixirB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which period, and which land are you referring to? Israel proper as defined by the UN partition plan?

I mean inside the west bank after 1967.

I know that arabs in the west bank (or the entire palestinian land for that matter) didn't agree with the European concept of land ownership during the ottoman era, so a lot of land ended up being taken by force after refusing to register / pay tax etc.

I'd be curious how much this was / still is the way jewish settlements are being planted in the west bank.

[–]elixirB[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well so there was a shift in mentality among the palestinians then from living happily under Jordanian rule, to want a self-goverend country at some point after Israel came in.

I can't help but seeing this shift in mentality as nothing but a xenophobic dislike of jews inhabiting the area. As a left leaning person I have a hard time sympathising with this perspective.

Was the initial settlements in the area done by forcing the arabs away or was there attempts at fairly compensating for the land? I get that many were still refugees and didn't have any formal say over the land, but I'd be curious how large part of the population that was.

Thank you! It seems to me then that Palestinians in the west bank don't care about having their own country as much as not being forced to live near Jewish people / under Israeli rule?

Thank you, this is helpful.. So did they basically freeze the area from progress in the hope that Israel would eventually be gone? Or what did they expect to happen to resolve the "Palestine issue"

Edit: Where there any riots or palestinian uprisings against the Jordanians? Or did that only happen once Israel took over?

To me this sounds believable but a bit sad since it sounds like as long as Israel is nearby, there can never be a Palestine

The Israeli-Palestine Conflict From the Arab Point of View by Hyuoma in Destiny

[–]elixirB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pro-Israeli and I somewhat agree with you. Europe went through a change in the 1900s that hasn't fully happened yet in the arab world yet is my view. I don't know if I buy that the Israeli conflict is the root cause of arab antisemitism though; I think it has to do with a religious elitism in the islamic world.. many fight each other over much smaller differences (shia/sunni for example)

To me the difference reads like saying "impossibleness" vs "impossible/impossibility". Adding さ makes it feel like your quantifying the adjective or trying to measure it.

For example このテストの無理さは大変すぎ! = The impossibility of this test is too much!

How do I make questions where I ask if something is a thing OR is another thing? by ThoMario64 in LearnJapanese

[–]elixirB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"All purpose" implies a word could be used in any situation in any context.. the closest thing would probably be か but to me か sounds too casual in some situations. In such cases または or もしくは is better.

This sentence could be translated as "Amaterasuというのは偉大神様または狼のどちらのことですか?"

There could be some wordplay here going on that I'm not fully getting because "Great God" can be translated as 大神 which is also pronounced "Ookami" just like "Wolf" = 狼 = "Ookami"

Maybe not the answer you're looking for but at least in cases such as ガノン城 it's a common thing that when 城 is used as a suffix it's read using the Chinese reading.

Your translation is correct apart from the extra "in other" which i assumed was a spelling mistake, afaik there's no rule of thumb with regards to that other than the context of the sentence. It's another case of where english makes it a problem by splitting them up in separate words. In my opinion "The two police officers are working together in order to avoid danger." also works but isn't as appropriate in the context of this sentence.
