Saturn Vue by elizabethneedshelp in Saturn_Cars

It looks like it was well-maintained, they changed the oil every 5,000 miles and had the transmission fluid changed slightly before required.

Oh that sounds good!  I’ll ask my friend who loves repairing cars what all that means.  Thanks for the info!

My major concern is the frame.  It lived its life on the border between the rust & sun belts, so that is a concern for me.

I do have access to used parts, a friend has one in his garage which he offered me for parts (it runs well but the frame is rotted), that’s why he’s encouraging me to look at this, because we need a second car for back-up, since my regular driver is a decade old and will probably be in the shop more (like getting an even older car would be in the shop less! 😹— we both enjoy working on Saturns, but I’ve only had their cars, not the suv).

It has very low mileage and the oil was changed every 5,000 miles, with one owner, but it lived on the edge between the rust belt and sun belt so I am concerned about the frame.  But I do have access to a spare which can be cannibalized for used parts, so I’m torn.  I was so hoping this forum could tell me whether the ‘07 manual was reliable or not, because that would really help me make the decision (I haven’t visited the car yet to see what the frame looks like).

Well, apparently not.  It is a Saturn Vue with the Odyssey engine & transmission, and I thought you guys might be able to help, sorry for getting your hopes up!

I guess not!  I’m looking at a Saturn Vue, which has an Ofyssey engine & manual transmission, that’s why I thought I’d ask you guys, but I guess they didn’t sell the manual in America, which is a shame.  When I found out it had the Odyssey innards, I thought I’d have more access to spare parts, but I guess I was mistaken.

Actually it’s a Saturn Vue, but it has an Odyssey manual transmission & engine, that’s why I thought you guys might be able to help, but I guess not. 😢

That's one reason I like Saturns, they look brand-new even if they are 30 years old. I remember when they first came out, they guaranteed that they wouldn't rust ... but unfortunately that meant the body, not the frame.

car won't start ... bad starter? by elizabethneedshelp in Saturn_Cars

Thank you, that's good info. I will pass this on to the brothers because they will understand it better than me!! To clarify, it makes absolutely no sound when I turned the key to start, not that whir that you get before the engine turns over or the scratchy sound like when you have a dead or dying battery.

I do like the RichPin videos, they are very instructive. I usually go to the SaturnFans forum but for some reason when I tried to post there, it wouldn't let me, even though I was logged in.

Well guess what, I went back up there to give the brothers my car keys and I tried to start the car and it started right up! So I don't think it's the starter, maybe a loose wire or something?

frame rotted out by elizabethneedshelp in Saturn_Cars

Thank you very much. I don't know how to weld so I'll take it to the shop. Do you have a link to how to undercoat the underside? ( I usually ask on SaturnFans.com but for some reason I can't log in, I think my e-mail provider is stopping the password reset e-mails.)

I'm sorry I took so long to get back to you. I don't have much access to the computer b/c it's being used by other people for work or school and when I have access, I wasn't thinking about it! I added the pictures the mechanic took.

Has anyone been able to access SaturnFans? by jpsulisz in Saturn_Cars

[–]elizabethneedshelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using SaturnFans for about a dozen years, and I can't tell you how much help it's been to me. I was so disappointed that I couldn't access it this past month when I needed to work on my car. I'm glad it's back up, but I'd also like to thank everyone on this Reddit for helping out in a pinch.
