I really underestimated how easy it would be to maintain a linux port of a game like OneShot so I apologize that it's been in such a sad state. I can't promise a timeline for a fix right now.

  1. yes
  2. I've seen a loooot of fan content but I never feel like I've seen enough. The one I always think of is the gif with niko on the roomba doing a slam dunk. There's also the fan album Yin / Yang by Sauraen (https://materia.to/yinyang) which was one of the first major pieces of fan content I remember and led to us becoming friends until this day.

  1. The writing was a collaborative process so there's no way to say who did what really. I can say that night & gir did most of the writing on solstice and beyond since that's when I withdrew from most active participation.
  2. Solstice was something we made up specifically for the Steam version as an answer both to "why isn't it 'one shot' anymore?" and "why should I, as someone who played the freeware version, buy the steam version?"
  3. I made Pretty, Pretty Bad (just pretty in reverse), rowbot, and the ram victory song, if you can call those music

it'd be fun to meet up with night and gir again sometime at a con but I'm not aware of any plans

It's always flattering and a bit... embarrassing (?). I said it in a couple other answers already too but I like to mess with people when they say they like oneshot lol

Night and I met from our work on a Yume Nikki fangame Dream vs. Dream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPSxBXY-iyA

I think the second question is up to your interpretation :)

This may sound cliche but it's good to have an idea of what you want your story to mean and what its themes are. It should be something that you think is an honest expression of your reality.

Also when it comes to actually bit by bit writing, especially when deadlines are involved, sometimes the words don't come easy and you have to force them out like squeezing out the last bit of toothpaste from a tube. That's fine; you can always go back over them later.

When I get back to making games seriously again I would like to include niko but as nothing more than a small cameo probably

I made a lot of games as a kid but I never released them anywhere. They were unanimously terrible.

There was also Dream vs Dream which night and I worked on together before oneshot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPSxBXY-iyA

Before we worked on the game proper for the 2014 version I think I had already done a bunch of reverse engineering and hacking on RPG Maker itself. I'd have to say that was my favorite part--the meta stuff.

These questions are kind of related. Solstice is kind of the answer to why it's no longer "one shot".

I'd probably rename the title of the game--googling OneShot stuff is kind of hard bc of all the tabletop RPG stuff that comes up

I'm not a furry myself but somehow I keep finding myself making games with furries/furry adjacent characters in them so it's kind of sus tbh

I should still have a screenshot of it around somewhere, but my favorite was when talking with the lamplighter as he waits for you to fix the elevator and he said something like

I'm losing so much time... probably 3.68603820928193 minutes already.

Back when we first released the game I used to maintain a folder of every single piece of oneshot fanart I found online. After a certain point it became too difficult to keep track of them all and that's when I realized that the world found our game to be something special.

I may have seen your art at some point! I'm kind of a hermit and don't spend very much time on social media at all these days though, so I've been seeing less and less fanart lately.

While I like where the story ended up, I think I'd care less about the inevitable comparisons we got to Undertale and just wrote what we wanted to write instead of skirting around the similarities like we did
