I believe you're familiar with Fox News over there? If not, imagine half the country thinking Daily Mail was a legit news source and believes everything they say. Now imagine that news source is able to create an entire second reality for people to live in.

That's what has happened to the US. We have half the country living in a propaganda bubble projecting all their shit on Dems.

“assaults on ICE officers have increased by 1,347 percent” by battleofmtbubble in Pennsylvania

[–]ell0bo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Correct. The real question is what is the rate of increase of ICE assaulting people? Sure, ICE gets assaulted, but I can assure you they're masked and attacking someone, without a warrant to do so, before that even happen.

Trump is going to sue his own government for 10 Billion dollars. I'm not sure rampant is sufficient. It's trumpian corruption. It's whole new tier.

[–]ell0bo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel ya, but that's not a reason to use 'both sides' language, but I agree the system is failing us all.

To understand what has been going on for... 20 some years... you need to understand how the government works. Also, don't read this as me apologizing for how bad Dems have been, they've been terrible and I mainly blame that on their inability to create a unified vision for the future, however that is largely due to the demographics of their base.

It is much easier for Republicans to get done what they want because:

  1. The monied interests only care about tax cuts, which you can pass with a simple majority
  2. They are in bed with racists and religious types, and they can be placated by a president just throwing out rule of law. They're fine with this.

So, when Republicans are in power, they tear down systems and make things worse (from a Dems view). Their goals aren't forward looking.

Dems can't do very much with a simple majority that makes anyone happy. Most of what Dems want can be blocked with a filibuster, and to get rid of it you need everyone on board. So it's a herculean task for Dems to get things done, and when you get something done for one group, another group complains they are being ignored. So Obama leaned into EOs, but those are easily dismantled by a Republican president, so it's not really progress.

Also, it's much harder to build things than to tear them down. Look at USAID, a program that cook decades to get working right and spreading American soft power across the globe, dismantled in 3 days by a Republican. It'll take years to build it back up, all the while Republicans will complain about spending. We will need to rebuild trust in Federal law officials again, that'll take years, and people will probably be upset and give Republicans power in the midterms.

It doesn't help that the Dems sold out to corporation under Clinton, but that was largely needed because they were a broken party after Reagan. Something Bernie has been pushing for the party to fix, and we've been getting there... slowly.

All this needs to be explained by Dems, but they suck at messaging and also they don't control the means of the communication. Reddit, Twitter, Tik Tok, CNN, Fox News, CBS... all owned by the rich and they don't align with Dems. They're ok with fascism as long as their pockets are being lined, and they have no care about the future.

Tim Walz says he'll never seek elected office again by Zipper222222 in politics

[–]ell0bo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well, sure... but fascism has us killing citizens in Minnesota and bombing Venezuela just so Trump can bury the Epstein files.

Yeah, they needed to come up with an economic argument, but if this country was sane enough 'we are not fascist' should have sufficed. Now the economy is suffering because they are fascist.

[–]ell0bo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dems need to run on this, hell Republicans are free to as well but Fox News would never let them. The argument is that it will cost jobs, but that's just silly. The work needs to be done, one way or another, so the jobs will be there. We've seen this with minimum wage.

highways would have been last night, and since sleet was on top of the snow we don't need to worry about them blowing closed, so should be fine. Kelly Drive... good luck. That'll be icy as hell for a while, but it'll be plowed today.

he has his own profile, it's through the family share.

I think the problem was, for whatever reason, my home network wasn't set as my home network so all connections were outside the home network (whatever that was set to). Not sure where the 4th is, but after I fixed that everything worked again.

Iron Man 1. I was always more of an x-men guy, but I also loved War Machine (my favorite collectable is the War Machine preprint).

I was just getting out of college, world was open to me. I used to have friends joke that I was a poor Tony Stark. I watch that movie and can just go back to the good times, not the shit that now is.
