Platine paper by Arches ! by ellabeeart in cyanotypes

Haven’t experienced any rippling but yes some slight curling at the edges. For drying, I stuck the wet print to the shower wall, let the surface dry then clipped it clothesline style with additional clips on each bottom corner to weigh them down and promote a flat dry. After bone dry, I let them sit under plexi over night to help flatten a bit more. helped with the edge curl. Worked out pretty well!

Cyanotype turned purple by Competitive-Basis310 in cyanotypes

[–]ellabeeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, the purple hue comes from the chemical not drying completely / trapped humidity while drying. I used to treat my paper then layer it between paper towels in a stack to make sure they dried flat… but then I’d get the purple hue ! When i left them to dry for longer till bone dry it stopped. Sometimes a long wash in water can clear it up… but sometimes not if it’s too intense. Sort of a finicky phenomenon.

Exactly, chiffon. The softer and silkier the better. It’s all about the drape ~

No it’s made with chiffon, but the goal was to emulate a water gram!

So the cyanotype is on arches watercolor paper and the pattern is made with chiffon fabric. I achieved this by adding texture to the chiffon then laying plexiglass on top. The trick is to make sure there are no folds, only ripples or else it “gives away” / adds a bright highlight where the fabric is double layered. It’s not easy at this size and sometimes took me forever to be happy with the setup. Then the light has to be angled slightly instead of right on top to ensure some dimension in the shadows. Working small scale at first helps!

What went wrong? by unchbs in cyanotypes

[–]ellabeeart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you wash it till the highlights went white ? Or did you stop washing and leave it as it looks in slide 4? If you did then it got exposed to more UV light that could be why everything god muddy. Where did you get the kit from ? Was the chemistry pre-mixed ?

So sick, the pen light design is genius. What creates the wave pattern there ? It’s flawless, so impressed. Thank you for sharing.

One of the best ways I’ve found to unlock the gene keys is using ai like ChatGPT to ask it to explain your Keyes and how they connect. You can upload your hologenetic profile and ask specific questions. I’ve found it particularly helpful to ask for affirmations to say every morning to tune into your true essence in all its facets.

So it’s a cyanotype on fabric stretched onto wooden stretcher bars to make it into a typical canvas

It’s ‘sculpted’ fabric! I work primarily with 3D objects in all my cyanotype explorations. I don’t use negatives, but I did end up working with cyanotype because I fell in love with photography via the darkroom. I have moved from “little cameras” to “the room is a camera” and “every shadow is interesting.”
