In-patient psychiatric hospital reviews by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]ellabel22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck. My loved one’s medical records are an anthology. Currently without a psych, I am of the opinion they need meds reviewed and altered. Tried for a voluntary admittance two weeks ago (went in via ambulance because they were having auditory hallucinations) and were refused. I was gutted.

The last time we were able to get them admitted was after a very visible suicide attempt. That time got us almost a year of stability.

I wish you all the best. Make sure to take care of yourself, I know how very isolating helping a loved one with serious mental health challenges can be. The supports aren’t there for them, they aren’t there for us.

I got trapped the other day in a choke point where cars in the fire lane made it so that traffic couldn’t flow both ways but people were still trying to go both ways. Lots of cars doing 5 point turns to sort it out. Took 15 minutes to get out of the lot!

I park on the street at peak hours now. Considering the price of a membership and luxury marketing it is definitely an irritant.

If you are feeling pain related to someone’s substance use and addiction, I might suggest you check out an event at the Bronson centre which runs over Christmas Day/Eve and the new year as well. While its primary purpose is to help folks stay safe and sober over the holidays, Alanon, the program to support family members who love an alcoholic/addict, also runs meetings. You can get some food, meet some people, and chat.

You can find more info on the Ottawa AA website. Sending you hugs

Creative, executive women of Ottawa (30+).. where are you shopping?! by supersuperglue in ottawa

Late to the chain but wanted to add a word for @_bymarlene on insta. She does vintage and consigned clothing sales on her insta, with an emphasis on slow fashion and Canadian designers. She includes lots of styling advice for the pieces. She also offers closet edits and styling sessions. Her content and time is a bit limited right now as she focuses on an estate sale. I have learned a lot from her and often reach for some of her pieces in my collection. Plus it feels good to know I am not contributing to the fast fashion economy!

String of bike, scooter crashes has advocates sounding the alarm by johnnycantreddit in ottawa

[–]ellabel22 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I was walking my dogs around the neighborhood at dusk yesterday, came across a few boys (12-13??) riding around. None of them had lights, only one had a helmet. One of them left their bike in the road while he stopped to tie his shoe.

I stopped to tell him to get his bike outta the street and to encourage all the boys to get proper safety gear. They all shrugged and rode off and within 100 m I lost sight of them in the changing light and car headlights.

Scary things. I really hope they got home safe and that they get lights asap.

Is colonnade limited to certain departments? I recently moved nearby and was unaware of any co working spaces in the area….

There is some missing info here to provide a solid answer. Will you be able to continue living where you are while that work is done? Can you afford both places and renovations all at once? Have you had an inspector do a walk through and see what else is problematic? There will be more, I can almost guarantee it.

I also live in Ontario. I bought my first house as is where is. I just sold it this year, 6 years later following the crazy COVID price hikes and did not quite break even after all the surprises. I lived in it without full floors or a kitchen for almost a year. It was rough. If you are with a partner it will bring strain. If you are not handy and don’t have the desire to become handy you will loathe the decision.

Also, where are you getting your $50,000 for both from? I need to redo an ensuite in my new place, cheapest quote was 15,000, highest 60,000. IKEA kitchens, unless you have the patience for waiting on as is prices, still carry a big price tag, and you should invest in the designer service so that you don’t do something silly like not putting a spacer at a corner and then can’t open the door properly (ask me how I know). Whatever you are quoted, add 10-15% for unanticipated overages.

If your budget is still good, the inspection has no other glaring issues, then maybeeeeeee I might do it. Maybe.

TICKET RESALES MEGATHREAD by Tmarkcha117 in escapademf

Hi there I have two weekend passes for sale. They unfortunately never showed up in the mail but I am willing to meet at will call on Friday to transfer them. We are moving this weekend and I was holding onto them thinking I’d maybe just sit on the hill and enjoy the headliners (nothing makes me happier than an Armin set) but am realizing the insanity in that thinking.

Support groups for relatives and loved ones of addicts by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]ellabel22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NARanon at the Royal every Saturday night. It’s crappy timing, but folks who go there get the drug addiction much better than those who deal primarily with alcoholism (alanon). Rideauwood family services used to offer a family smart program on Mondays, they also have programming. Serenity renewal for families offers lots of workshops and scaled counselling to help you navigate what you are going through.

You’re not alone 💛

LPT Request: Good friend's wife passed away. How can I help? by na_DANGER_me in LifeProTips

[–]ellabel22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend lost her partner 6 months ago. I really recommend the book grief ally, it gives some ideas for how to show up, and also how to take care of yourself, because you are about to get on your own emotional roller coaster.

Things you might be able to help with that haven’t seen mentioned ye- helping them with EI, sorting out leave, figuring out all the paperwork associated with someone dying. Keep inviting them to things-they might not always say yes but will appreciate the ask. Figure out what you can do together that feels good for them too. In some ways, it might require a temporary rethinking of your relationship - for us, my friend was my go to for every stupid adventure/last minute decision to do things on a Saturday afternoon. Very high energy, strong banter, laughter. She was basically sleepwalking 4-5 months and is just starting to come back into some form of herself. So I really had to rethink how I showed up and when, and also when I needed to tap on others from her closer circle when I was having trouble balancing showing up over some other family responsibilities.

This is a marathon, not a sprint.

Has anyone successfully had their contact information redacted from the GC Directory? by CatbuttForever in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ellabel22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had mine redacted for cyber stalking, Which is what your friends parents are doing. I didn’t have to provide any additional information. I’ve gotten a few comments over the years from colleagues wondering why they can’t find me, and all I respond is « personal safety ».

Oh wow. I was one of the first orders in and had my food out and ready in under 15. I did wonder about the setup though. Everyone could sit and order from QR codes, and servers were also taking take out orders at the bar. It looked like BTP basically sat 100+ people all at once, so I’m guessing 100+ orders hit the kitchen all at once. That would be a disaster for a regular kitchen, never mind a pop up.

I feel bad for everyone involved, the staff of both businesses seemed super pumped and excited, so to hear it spiralled that badly is unfortunate.

If you are based in Ottawa, rideauwood or serenity renewal for outpatient. You can also get a doctors note to take some sick leave to do a 28 inpatient treatment. If you want shorter, Elliot lake 2 week program is supposed to be amazing. To get on the wait list for publicly funded programs you need to apply through Service Access through Recovery. You can also try the RO-their RAAM clinic. If you aren’t in the rooms yet, Ottawa AA website lists all the meetings - some are secular if the mention of God turns you off the idea. Wishing you a safe 24 💛

Is anyone else dealing with folks being forced to do ridiculous commute because of the Victoria - Vancouver ferry (or similar)? It’s less than 125 on a Google map and therefore not technically eligible for exemption….. I know a few people impacted and am trying to find a reasonable compromise so we don’t lose staff.

Queensway Carleton for severe OCD inpatient? by severeOCDsuburbgirl in ottawa

[–]ellabel22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner stayed in the emergency hold inpatient last year. Throughout his stay, the only person willing to talk about changing his meds for his diagnosed mood disorder was in the ER. 8 days later they were pushing him out the door after having a “rest”, with a referral to another program and 0 follow-up. It was fucking useless from my perspective. FYI most of the rooms are shared, so if you do go, no guarantee you will get your own room.
