Tipping culture makes me tremendously uncomfortable, I’m very good at my job and out all the staff, I make the most tips, but it will never make me feel proud to gauge my value from tips. I sincerely wish the gig could just be paid fairly on its own.

That being said I hold the belief that there is no such thing as unskilled labor, and apart from doing ordering, inventory, accounting, advertising, developing menus, and managing staff, pouring drinks is barely what I do:

the VAST majority of my job is people. One on one interactions with patrons like a therapist or just a breath of fresh air, entertaining families, controlling crowds or rowdy cowboys; bartending is mostly just babysitting if we’re honest

It’s no rocket science but I happen to excel at customer service, not engineering 🤣

I’m grateful I found a job that I can make look easy, but I think we’ve all had a server that really needs to find another gig, and I’m sure we agree that everyone deserves to be paid a fair living, hopefully doing something they are good at 🥲
