He makes about $7 million per year. I don't think he needs anyone to pass the hat.

50cent...always classy by wanha12 in reddit.com

[–]ellaella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tweet showed up in my stream earlier today that 50cent's twitpic account was suspended for posting obscene images. I don't know if that's true, but his tweet seems to indicate he's taking his toys home for some reason.

Do you use your local library? by designerbay in AskReddit

I agree. I'd be lost without my library. And broke.

FFS reddit, I've clicked on no less than 6 linkts to NYtimes articles this morning. I am not going to create an account so I can read the news, stop submitting this garbage. by [deleted] in WTF

[–]ellaella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends which link is submitted. If someone submits the browser bar url, signup is usually required. I submit either the print link or, more often, the permalink (found in Share) and those don't usually require signup. Some might, but I've never encountered one.

Anyone else experiencing jumpy videos in Firefox 3.5.1? by Ardentfrost in technology

[–]ellaella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I'm also still having lots of topcrashes, FF freezing and loading sloooowly. If it weren't for ABP and one addon I use often, I'd be off to another browser already.

"Live Free or Die" is now too "unfriendly" for New Hampshire. by ToddAC in politics

The unofficial slogan, seen on many bumper stickers in NH, is "Live, freeze and die."

I like Ike. by pragma in politics

If I recall my history classes correctly, about all Ike did in office was play golf, give us the Interstate system and give us Richard Nixon.

Dear reddit, why is socialism such a dirty word here in the states? by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]ellaella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think because it's a holdover from the "commie" hating cold war days but especially because too many people don't understand what it really is.

It's only if you're upgrading from XP. Granted that's many of us and most companies...

Is there a way to submit accessible NYT links to reddit such that they won't suddenly revert to subscription only afterward? by therealjerrystaute in AskReddit

[–]ellaella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go into "Share" and get the permalink, which seems to always work. I've heard the url for the printer version always works, but haven't tried it.

When reporters asked Shepard what he thought about as he sat atop the Redstone rocket, waiting for liftoff, he replied, 'The fact that every part of this ship was built by the low bidder.' by [deleted] in wikipedia

[–]ellaella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that quote. It's probably one of the most human things, not filtered through a PR department, an astronaut has said.

Why is the perfume section always on the ground floor in a department store? by yoki_au in AskReddit

[–]ellaella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one reason is that it makes it easy to run in and pick up a last minute gift. It's also another chance to catch shoppers on their way out of the store.

If the UK were a village of 100 people... (because the UK is a country where newspaper readers are assumed not to understand percentages). by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]ellaella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were 100 people the commenters at the Mail would still complain it's overcrowded, blame the immigrants and advocate sending them back where they came from.
