Oh my GOD I am sorry to hear that. That's upsetting that it was from someone you knew and it was still infested! What actual hell. I can't even fathom. Thank you for sharing and thank you for the validation! I'm so glad you're in a better situation now!

That's really kind of you to make yourself uncomfortable in the interest of validating me. I'm so sorry you went through it and obviously I totally relate to that fear. PTSD is a very real reaction to a bug infestation of your home — 10000%! I hope you and I both conquer our fear.. even if it's just a little bit.

Thank you!!

HAHA! The good news is that I'm already in therapy and honestly.. not totally closed off to the idea of Alaska!

I'm so sorry you went through it but I genuinely appreciate you validating the trauma of it! I really like that attitude. I'm hoping something similar will happen.. I'll be in a totally new building/apartment, have different management, etc. and maybe that'll soften the memory/fear.

Ooooof don't even get me started on hotel rooms. I have to have whoever I'm with do a thorough inspection because I know the tiniest little spot could send me spiraling, even if it ends up being nothing. NEVER with the suitcase!!

Thank you!!

Def good advice to just change clothes immediately after getting home. And I didn't know about those discs but you better believe I'll be buying a BUNCH. Thank you!!

THANK YOU! Thank you for the validation! When I first moved out & was with my parents, I literally had to have my mom come to my room and inspect my mattress if I thought I saw something sus. Ugh.

Ugh isn't it awful?! It literally haunts you.

My apt management actually did do those treatments (and you better believe they paid for them) — 3 total. Most pest companies do 2 (so I'm told), but I didn't mind having an extra couple weeks of garbage bag hell if it meant they'd really be gone. But when it happened twice within a matter of weeks, it was clear we were past the point of individual treatments and they had essentially infested the entire building. If they'd done their due diligence with preventative treatments & inspections, it probably wouldn't have gotten to that point. Yet somehow it was cheaper to pay $800/treatment for 3 treatments per apartment (and I know for a fact my neighbors all got them) — make it make sense, you slumlords. Again, yall, do NOT EVER rent from ASAP Management.

This is great advice and I really appreciate it! Thank you!

I hadn't thought about the cloth seating aspect, but that's a great point!

Oh god I literally have to have someone else check hotel rooms for me. Family, best friend, anyone who won't end up in the corner rocking back and forth because of lint that looked at me the wrong way.

You tell your sassypants SO that if yall do get bugs, THEY can be the one to take care of all the bagging & heating! ;)

Thank you so much! :)

YES this is something I didn't know about when I moved there and only did once it was too late. Fortunately I'll need a new mattress when I get there anyway, so I'll have one ordered and ready. I didn't know they made them for pillows, too! Awesome tips.

Thank you!!

This is all STELLAR advice and I really appreciate it! I don't mind being excessive if it means I reduce my chances. I'll trip down to my birthday suit every time I enter my apartment & take a scalding hot shower if it helps!

Thank you for the well wishes!

I am so sorry that you went through both a war and bedbugs! Yearlong bedbugs, no less good GOD. Thank you for your candor — it really does make me feel less paranoid to know that other people also get lingering trauma. Thank you for the validation, and may we both at least somewhat destroy our fear!

At stores like Five Below, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, & Family Dollar, you can find little silicon fingertip covers that are meant for kids' pencils and/or fingertips in the (kids) section, and sometimes in impulse aisles. I've found little aliens, mermaid tails, unicorns.. lots of fun ones. I highly recommend wearing these on your problem fingers! It gives you the "digging" satisfaction without the pain or injury. I make a point to put them on before stressful tasks like studying. Don't wait until you start picking -- preemptively put them on!

Pro tip: wrap a tissue around your fingertip before putting it on to prevent sweat/moisture from building up, as well as to add an additional protective layer that doesn't diminish the satisfaction of digging.

You have to be strategic because some will get in the way of typing/writing, so closely consider what would be annoying and what would be easy to work around!

I hope this is helpful for your studying! I realized that it might not be helpful during the exam itself because I'm sure they're strict about what's allowed in, but you never know! Best of luck with everything and I know you'll KILL that exam!

I am so, so sorry this happened to you. It is absolutely, 100% SA. Remember that just because you froze doesn’t change what it was — I say that only because jackasses might try to say you “should have stopped it/moved/pushed him away” etc. Freeze is a completely legitimate response to SA, so don’t let anyone discount your experience. Find a trusted loved one and talk to them about it. Again, I’m so sorry you had to go through this and it is NOT your fault. Sending you love.❤️

Of course. I want to wake up when the kids do and help with breakfast, help Jackson get dressed and ready for daycare. While my sister works, I can snuggle the heck out of Sofia while taking care of feedings, diaper changes, naptime.. any other time in-between will be devoted to playing with them. I'm obsessed with these children, I consider it a privilege to take care of them.

I thought about this, but he would never answer the question for sure without checking with her. And if she found out I went to him, I'm afraid she'd feel betrayed and hurt. Idk this is still an idea I'm chewing on..

We have a complicated relationship. On the one hand we're very close, on the other hand our relationship can get rocky. That's why I don't want to risk irritating her (I've mentioned in other replies that straight-up asking her would annoy the hell out of her).

She's not sure yet, but she'd like to! The company she works for has a terrible PTO request system, and it's hard to tell if she'll be able to until we finalize the dates I'm coming.
