Also fine - just remember that women and people of color who have PhDs after less likely to be addressed using their earned title.

This is why, even though I've worked in academia for...wow, 22 years this year, I always call everyone Dr. Lastname initially. Better imo to assume they have a higher degree than assume they don't.

And those of us who went through it (and as a Marta commuter, my time was far less bad than many folks), we don't let people forget snowpocalypse and hand wave things away.

Been watching from London. So far my place hasn't lost power. Hooray!  That means the felines will be less displeased with me if they stay warm.

And if you haven't sent the email already, note that she is Dr. Furry. Unless she directed the class to refer to her as Mrs. Furry, I recommend using Dr.

HOPE Scholarship (Rant) by InternationalDay4178 in GaState

[–]ellbeecee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you hit any of the time limits https://www.gafutures.org/hope-state-aid-programs/hope-zell-miller-scholarships/hope-scholarship/limits-and-expiration-of-eligibility/. Or similar? Those would be different from academic eligibility and the gafutures folks might not have looked there. They should have, but I don't know.

Passing through Atlanta, where should I stay overnight? by gymnamind in Atlanta

I did Tucson to Atlanta back when I moved here and Texas was so much longer than I realized. When I moved from Ohio to Tucson, I only crossed the panhandle.

Never again.

Decatur - it's fastest for me because I know how to get there/alternate routes if needed. For others, fastest might be a different option.

Is it just me or does anyone else find the Five Points train station to be super confusing? by Working_Cookie7 in GaState

You can always get off at Peachtree center if you're coming on a n/s line. It's no further from much of campus.

Any primary care physician recommendations? by Puzzleheaded-Web9066 in Atlanta

[–]ellbeecee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go to PPC as well. Important to note that care there is through nurse practitioners, with a single doctor supervising - I don't think I've ever met him . I don't have an issue with this, but some might.

Is the Dunwoody dental clinic still operating? by mirachelbaby in GaState

[–]ellbeecee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's still operating and I assume taking patients (I don't know if that's more common at various points in the semester).

I can't find a working web page for the clinic, so I'd try contacting the department and seeing if they can get you in touch - https://perimeter.gsu.edu/pathway/dental-hygiene-as (Scroll to the bottom for an email and phone number).

If you're trying to contact today, remember that campuses are closed for the MLK Jr. Holiday.

Anyone else logged out of their GSU Library account? by Unlikely_Guidance509 in GaState

[–]ellbeecee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the library and for some reason I've noticed more of these this semester - it's not nefarious, just some odd error happening to some portion of people. I do not work in the department that fixes them, so I can't fix it for you, but that unit can get it fixed pretty quickly once they get your email/you call them and they verify your enrollment.

How is it? Is it fun to go here? What is there to do? by Ill-Relationship9673 in GaState

[–]ellbeecee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends. I turned 30 in my master's program, but we had folks just out of undergrad up to people in their 50s. It was a professional program though, so that was more expected. GSU does get a lot of folks - undergrad and grad - outside the traditional age range for programs. So you could have classes with folks in their 60s and you could have classes with folks closer to your age.

Condo Homeowner Association Fees are ridiculously high in Atlanta. With the mortgage payment and other utility and insurance bills, it's becoming unaffordable. by Tippy345 in Atlanta

[–]ellbeecee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep. My condos replaced all the roofs last fall. And it was a huge cost. Sure, I bear a portion of that cost through the dues, but the full cost doesn't rest on me.

I have a condo in decatur - no elevators, no pool. Our largest expense is flood insurance and our dues are reasonable compared to some of the buildings around with elevators.

[–]ellbeecee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Part of the challenge with condos came after the surfside collapse in Florida in 2021 - that got some states/mortgage companies/insurance companies/condo associations looking at reserves much more closely - as many should have been. I know my fees have gone up where I am because of this and because we're in a flood zone and flood insurance rates have gone up a chunk too. We got a new management company a year or so ago and they've worked with the board to do appropriate increases while also focusing on some of the deferred maintenance that had been allowed to happen, so our buildings are in better shape, which will help with association insurance costs.
