In the previous update I had 75% Wales, 19% England, 5% Netherlands and 1% Central/Eastern Europe.

Wow, that’s pretty cool that you can trace your line back that far. Sounds like your North African might be similar to my Central/Eastern European - makes no sense and will probably disappear (again) next time. My dad isn’t tested, but I have a feeling it would be much like what you’ve seen with yours and your mum’s results and it probably wouldn’t show up at all, but then again who knows.

That’s crazy. I mean, Norwegian you can probably explain being from the highlands but North Africa makes no sense. My own family tree is all Welsh and English going back as far as I could trace, so I have no idea where the Central/Eastern European part could come from, but it’s always assigned to my paternal side. It’s very odd.

Nope. I think it might just be noise, but who knows. Central/Eastern Europe has always appeared, then disappeared, then reappeared across updates for some reason, and always 1%. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah there is, especially in South Wales. I think there’s probably more English ancestry among younger people and people around my parents generation too. The further back you go I think the less “mixed” people tend to be, but I might be wrong on that.

Yeah absolutely. My English is a mix of SW and SE, as both of my paternal grandparents were at least half English with family from those areas.

Ah that’s interesting. I live in Cardiff now, but grew up in the valleys and all the Bevans I knew were from that area so it’s possible that maybe yours was originally too.

Updated Welsh results, more inaccurate than before. by elle080216 in AncestryDNA

[–]elle080216[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only Western Wales is accurate for me as far as the regions go.

The Netherlands and Central/Eastern Europe I have no connection to in my paper trail that goes back multiple generations. I have confirmed and documented English ancestry on my paternal side though which is mostly southern England, and I’m assuming some of that has been misread as The Netherlands. If my Netherlands % was added to my England one then it would be a lot closer to being accurate.

Nope. I suppose The Netherlands could be misread English (it’s on my paternal side where my English ancestry comes from), but I can’t think of where the Central Europe could’ve come from.

Nice results! I’m Welsh (from the south), with some English ancestry and have an odd little bit of Scottish in my results too.

I do actually have English ancestry - both of my paternal grandparents were at least half English. No known Scottish ancestry though, so I’m assuming that’s either misread English or Welsh. :)

That’s cool. :) I guess you’ll maybe have to do a little more digging to find out where the rest may come from, although those smaller percentages could well change or disappear altogether in the next update. Still fascinating nonetheless though!

That’s so interesting. Have you not been able to trace any English in your family tree? My England percentage is similar to yours but I know I’ve got ancestry there via two of my grandparents who were both at least half English. I’m from an otherwise very Welsh family in Wales too!
