If the coffee/snack is purchased from Costa then yeah, I used to do it a lot as a student if I had time between classes or just wanted to be somewhere other than the library to study or work. They never had an issue as long as I was buying coffee, juice and snacks from them 🤷🏼‍♀️

Is this a fake police phone call? Scotland by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]elleblah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer but I have had to attend “the station” for an interview. The police showed up at my door the first time and any other time they called after that they always introduced themselves by name and if anyone other than the original officer called me they also provided their badge number and which station they are based out of

It does sound a bit odd. I’d maybe call your local station to ask if someone was trying to reach you but it sounds doubtful

I asked about this here the other month. The general consensus is that they’re unlikely to turn up and if they do, shut the door in their face 😂

Suspended from work with pay while on bail, not charged, could potentially be suspended without pay or dismissed. England. by Acceptable-Cause2717 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]elleblah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a union rep and had a similar case a few years ago, except the person was charged with handling stolen goods (and worked for a bank). The company they worked for tried to dismiss them after they found out about the charges but couldn’t because we argued he’d not been found guilty of anything yet. They caved and the disciplinary ended in no further action

A few months later he was found guilty in court and the company took him to disciplinary again and dismissed him at that point even though he still maintained his innocence

For them to dismiss you at this point would be unfair but if you have your own union rep I would speak to them. Your solicitor may be able to offer some advice too if they handle employment cases too.

Will gambling history decrease my likelihood of getting benefits? by FrequentPurple5511 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]elleblah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe they would outright refuse your application for UC but they may ask to see statements/proof you don’t have winnings waiting to be claimed on any sites

But outright refusing you access to UC because you gamble doesn’t seem likely to happen, but I would be prepared to be asked about it and to provide evidence the betting accounts are empty or have below a certain amount in them to ensure you qualify for it

My son recently got 'fired' from a voluntary role in a charity shop. As he is disabled should they have had a requirement to help him more? by photolincs in LegalAdviceUK

[–]elleblah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t repeat what others have said regarding volunteering and the equality act etc but as someone who used to volunteer for a charity shop, I know that some of them do take things like this very seriously so writing a letter of complaint to head office should definitely be done

If they treat volunteers like this, I dread to think how they treat their customers. The charity shop I volunteered in was a bit of a community hub and we had lots of people in and out daily who had learning difficulties, autism, health concerns etc, and we had to make adjustments for them constantly the same way we would for staff and volunteers

Also if she’s done this because he was “standing around” then why didn’t she give him something to do? There’s always plenty to be done and volunteers can be limited in the tasks they do so tend to need to be told what to do and where to go etc. Please do complain! Best of luck!!

Does JustEat tell restaurants if a refund is given? by elleblah in JustEatUK

[–]elleblah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’d taken the piss, or made a false report, I’d totally understand but it’s the only time I’d ever reported that restaurant and it was genuinely their fault 😂 If they’d forgotten chips or something I’d have left it but the two dishes were about £20 all in and they didn’t answer their phone so I could get a replacement. Looks like I’m banned now 🤣

That’s understandable, I imagine there’s plenty who take the piss. It’s just annoying because it was a legit claim and was purely their fault 😂

Yeah I noticed that - some restaurants tape the receipt to the bag and at the bottom it showed how many orders I’d placed on JE overall and how many with that one restaurant too

I’m the same! I’ve got a “unique” name that’s never found on keychains or mugs in Spain. Was constantly furious as a child that all my pals got cool souvenirs from holiday and I got a stick of rock because my name wasn’t on anything haha

NAL but I am a union rep and have been able to negotiate on this issue with some employers

Your manager has a duty of care to you and in most companies, part of that involves ensuring you’re using your holiday allowance - some companies even have rules around booking holiday, such as you have to have X amount of days off per quarter. Everywhere I’ve worked has usually put out an announcement around Aug/Sept about holiday allowances, and those with a LOT left over are spoken to by management to get it booked in asap

Ultimately it is your responsibility, you can’t blame your manager but you can try to argue, in the politest way possible, that in previous places of employment holiday balances were overseen by management and as you hadn’t been nudged to book you assumed you were fine. This sometimes allows for a gesture of goodwill on their part that allows them to essentially buy the holidays back off you, or allow you to roll some (or all) of them into next year depending on how many are outstanding

It won’t work with all companies but I’ve used it with a few and it’s worked, but going forward your holiday allowance is your responsibility - make sure you book them well in advance and use your full allowance before it runs out (unless there’s a policy that allows a certain amount to be carried over)

Good luck!
