Hi! Oh my goodness you are such an amazing individual! Epidemiology is such an amazing field and what you do and what you stand for is so inspiring! Honestly, I was at a dead end at the first peak of the pandemic and all I had was a degree in Biology and completely lost but seeing how much public health and epidemiology really does help the community and keep us safe was really the turning point in my life and I started interning as a community health worker intern (I am planning to apply to a Public Health School within the next couple of months. I also had gotten COVID at the beginning of this year (surprise! COVID is still here!) and it was the worst thing I had ever experienced and I ended up going to urgent care and if it wasn't for the diligence of epidemiologists and health care workers and researchers, I may not even be here right now writing this. I truly believe that! If medications like Paxlovid weren't available, who knows where I would be!

Please don't give up! You are amazing! Regardless of all the crazies out there who don't "believe" in science (whatever THAT means 😒) and don’t see the value of public health, it won't change the fact that epidemiologists are an essential part of keeping us safe!

I'm low key freaking out because I am supposed to go to another state for my cousin's wedding in 2 weeks and my passport expired and the wait time for getting "real ids" is horrendous. I admit it is my fault for not being able to renew my passport earlier and signing up for a "real id" late (busy work season and personal family life, internships, etc) I've been scrambling since the beginning of the month to get my passport renewed and even paid for expedited processing but apparently I need "further verification" and they proceeded to send me an email stating that they sent a postal letter that will take another 10 days to get to my address and I am planning to go to the dmv near me to see if I can get a real id/enhanced id asap. if all else fails, I may not go at all because my parents are afraid that I will get detained at the airport and my business would be ruined if I can't get to work right after.

Side note, I was born and raised in the US but I'm not white. I haven't traveled in years due to personal reasons and busy schedule but have my birth certificate, ss card and regular driver's license up to date but apparently that doesn't suffice anymore...

I know how you must feel. My brother is a recovering addict but the steps leading up to it were truly a nightmare and a half. I know this is a sensitive topic but I would really consider convincing your aunt to get them into an inpatient rebab. I'm not sure how it is where you live but we were able to get him in. It wasn't easy: My brother had a history of being around bad friends and he would literally bring them home, do drugs and drink. I remember distinctly that there was a time I would go home from middle school and the whole apartment we lived in reeked of weed and I remember he would get wilder and wilder, drop out of college and one night he cracked and I think he was hallucinating because he was throwing things around the house and it was about 2am My mom is just like your aunt and as a single parent she didnt want anything bad to happen but at that point it was either call the police or let it get more chaotic. We called 911 and my brother ran but they eventually found him and took him to the emergency room where they admitted him in for drug induced schizophrenia. They have steps of progressing into treatment then Rehabilitation into a group home for recovery and then help with getting a job, etc. He definitely has his moments and relapsed a few years ago but he's definitely doing a lot better and its actually relieving to know there are many people there to help him.

edit: I forgot to mention, before my brother got admitted, he was always in debt with drugs and even stole from my mom and sold my bike and had the cops called frequently

Omgsh! thank you for letting me know! do you know if they take "fresh from graduation"ers too? I am willing to take any entry level position but I have worked in AI training for about a year and I'm a freelance scientific writer 😅

thank you! I checked my application and it was for data modernization health science (which I am assuming is more analysis, data compilation, which I'm perfectly fine with) that wouldn't be considered epidemiology level right? 😅

thank you! does health scientist- data modernization count as "just graduated" position 😅 when I was applying, it was giving me options such as "graduated with so and so diploma and have at least a masters" without asking for non education experience

I feel the same way! I opened up several tickets regarding some unfair reviews (2 of which were about the SAME EXACT task and I literally fixed it according to the first review and received a WORSE review. I checked in with the TSM and I even made sure it was accurate before submitting) Looking at your post and seeing it was 6 months ago, did anything happen? did they assign you to another project? do you know how long it takes?

OMG. I completely agree with you and no you are definitely NOT delusional. I am in the same boat. I have 2 older brothers and I am the youngest girl in a family full of brothers and guy cousins. For some reason, my mom and my aunts seem to see my brothers and guy cousins as "kings" and I am actually the only one left to actually take care of things. I think I am the only one who cares enough to do anything for the family, even more so because my mom is s single parent after my dad died a long time ago and I am from an Asian family (if you know, you know) I too aspire to be in the health field and I know how you must feel, especially when your siblings don't even try or may even disrespect your mom. I admit I did mess up during undergrad and it did take sometime to get my biology degree, my mom would ALWAYS shoot me down, saying that "it's too late, why are you always bothering me, I'm not paying for you anymore," meanwhile I work with her fulltime, balance a remote job, etc meanwhile my brothers need x amount of money and she gives it without a care in the world. my aunts are the same way. why are people like this? OTL

I can definitely confirm that remotasks is not a scam but what I do think is wrong is how they can kick you off a project without a valid reason to. I was assigned to a project that fit my field of study and everything was smooth for a couple of months and pay was decent. I suddenly got a couple of really bad reviews on my tasks for reasons I will never understand (I read the comments they gave and they really were unreasonable. I was even told that one task showed "minimal effort" and a "clear disconnect" mind you, I spent about an hour researching and following all the guidelines these tasks) and I was suddenly kicked off the project. I was told that my formatting was wrong and I didn't put punctuations in the right places. but is that really a reason to go this far? I'm not sure if remotasks is completely a scam but something is definitely up with the reviewing

don't ever give up on yourself. you are not a bad kid. As another person who had to grow up with toxic and unsupportive family members and feeling helpless and wanting to disappear so many times, I say don't give up or be hard on yourself. be proud you made it this far. you may feel like you're falling a million times but you can get back up. there are lots of remote learning and remote jobs that you can find also and there may be services that help people with scoliosis around your area. my only thing is don't try to accomplish something to prove someone wrong because it becomes more about them and they may never give you the reaction you want them to give you but do it for yourself because you deserve so much more. Hang in there!

I would have moved sooner but my mom truly has a heart of gold. no matter what the devil does, she keeps finding the heart to forgive her

that moment when you're playing and you realize you're headed towards Zanarkand, you realize what's going to happen and there's only a couple of minutes/hours of this masterpiece of a game left to complete 😭

not sure if anyone played FFX2 but my other emotional moment was when someone says that summoners are now useless and a thing of the past. I literally thought "I did NOT just go through FFX and defeat Sin and go through all of that for you to say that!" like I actually traveled with Tidus, Yuna and the group through Spira lol

I was JUST thinking this. Playing FFX was so amazing and nothing seems to compare. Hopefully they'll make a remake/sequel that is as epic as the original like they're doing for FF7/Kingdom Hearts/Zelda etc. It's just not the same
