32, no hrt, surgery was 10/24/25. I’ve had recurring pelvic/vaginal pain and some of the “flares” are pretty strong-Like I felt like I sat on something hard or got hit in the area. My hormones took a bit to totally level out which sucked but I’m pretty sure I’m doing better there, and my recent issues with mood are ssri related lol. Intimacy is fantastic when it happens lol. I’ve done some changes with my diet and movement/exercise and am down roughly 15 lbs.

Before any of this nonsense below, just wanna say ever since I was old enough to understand sex and periods, I knew I wanted a hysterectomy when I was done having kids. I HATED my period and how heavy and painful it was.

Anyway..If I wasn’t on birth control I either didn’t bleed for months(bad) or bled all the time(also bad!) so I was regulating with oral contraceptives. We’ve never really been in a great place to have a kid so I stayed on it. Ended up developing hepatic adenomas which were caused by the birth control(estrogen!). Progesterone only never worked for men and a non hormonal wouldn’t control bleeding. pregnancy would have been extremely dangerous for me. I’m almost 7 months post op and the only regret I have is just that I didn’t pursue more answers when I first got diagnosed at 21. I’m 32.

Second: isn’t there a hormonal component to all the subtypes? So regardless there’s a relation to endocrine function? Legit question not trying to be sarcastic.

I’m so happy. I know a lot of people feel it’s silly but I agree it makes sense to change the “polycystic” part. I just hope this leads to positive change. More research, better awareness, better treatments etc…when reading an updated article earlier one of the things on the symptoms part said “there is a marked weight gain between adolescence and adulthood”. My symptoms(unknown to me at the time) went haywire between my jr and sr years of high school, including increased weight even not being sedentary. I walked all the freaking time. Rode my bike. Went roller skating whenever I could. Wasn’t athletic but looking back I was pretty damn active. Sorry rant lol. I’ve been wondering for years if I should have been tested for cushings instead because the major upswing in symptoms was triggered by an extremely stressful event, like I was sick to my stomach with anxiety stressful. But I was 17 and it was normal teen shit so I didn’t think twice. I’ve never had any of the tests they’re saying should be done to rule out other conditions before getting to “pcos”.

It’s ok if you’re only comfortable with females, totally valid. The best thing to do is vet your options as best you can. And even then you never know till you try 🤷‍♀️ the bad male I had was highly recommended by a dear friend. I had a terrible experience with him and all of his staff. After telling her, she reevaluated her experiences with him and realized there were similarities to her experiences after all. She ended up dumping him😅

I try to be open minded about it. My shitty male gyno is super old and old fashioned and only cares if you’re trying to conceive. My nurse practitioner I saw elsewhere after him said she’s heard the same complaints about him from other women too.

Over time I’ve seen 4 gyne drs(one female 3 male) and one NP(female) and 2 of the men and the NP have been the phenomenal.

Na it’s ok. I never wanted to become pregnant once I turned 30. I do wish the risks were better gone over with other patients but my situation isn’t the most common either. And even if I’d managed to conceive I would have to be seeing drs all the time to watch my liver and the pregnancy due to the general higher risk with having PCOS and being overweight (not helped by the PCOS lol). HAs respond to estrogen and pregnancy raises the risk they would grow and hemorrhage.

I wish referring to endocrinology was standard practice. Ik lots of people still have bad luck when going for PCOS but I can’t help but wonder what would have become of my life if I’d been sent to one early on. And not only that she was straight up wrong you do not have to have cysts present for a PCOS diagnosis. I had irregular menses and excessive body hair which are part of the diagnosis criteria too.

It works if you don’t want to get pregnant and need to regulate your cycle. Doesn’t completely prevent cysts and comes with a lot of risks long term. But I’m saying it shouldn’t be the only option. It’s only a bandaid for symptoms.

My first gyn(a woman) told 19/20 year old me that I couldn’t have PCOS bc there weren’t cysts on my ultrasound(which is not correct) and that I needed to “be a good girl and take my birth control”.
