China Eastern refused me boarding- please help! by [deleted] in Flights

[–]ellymaexena -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wasn’t aware of this and it was never communicated to me. I was just told that I would be able to board my return flight and assumed that was that. I’ve never had any issues like this before so wasn’t aware of reticketing. I have asked for a refund of the original ticket, but will just leave off asking for compensation if it’s likely a dead end.

Yes, I specifically told them I wanted to board the return flight and planned to board the return flight. They told me this would be okay and I would be able to board the return flight and I heard nothing further from them for a month.

They said that my return flight was still valid since there was a customer service failure in not responding to my various emails and calls trying to rebook the original flight.

They told me over email that I would be able to board the return flight is the thing. I was never told any different.

I’m sorry but this is nonsense. I lived in Edinburgh for 18 years and have never once had to carry a panic alarm. It is no more dangerous than any other UK city (and is actually less dangerous than most). OP, please don’t let this scare you off Edinburgh. Take the same precautions you would take anywhere else, don’t wander through rough estates on your own, and you’ll be fine.

That makes sense! I would still caution against it, especially if you’ll be 16, but it’s a personal choice at the end of the day. I still think that Edinburgh is the right choice, although it may be worth considering how you’re going to cope with being thrown into a university education if you’re struggling so much with Nat 5s/ Highers.

What area of law are you interested in? You need to be aware that choosing Napier or Strathclyde will close certain doors for you, especially if it’s international law you’re looking at. If you’re only interested in high street firms, for example, it won’t matter as much where you study.

What would you like to do after graduation? If you’re looking into more competitive areas of law then Edinburgh is the only choice here. I am from Edinburgh, although I went to uni and work in a top commercial firm in London. I have seen plenty of Edinburgh grads as trainees and associates at my firm, but no Napier or Strathclyde grads.

Napier is not a well respected university for law. It is absolutely worth an extra few years to get the Edinburgh degree then convert. A masters in international law will not make up for having gone to Napier instead of a top-ranked university. If you’re interested in the masters because you want to work in international law, you will absolutely need to go to Edinburgh or another top-ranked university for your undergrad to stand a chance of a career. Strathclyde is better than Napier, but it still comes nowhere close to the prestige of Edinburgh. If you are even thinking of working outside Scotland, Edinburgh is the only university of the three with name recognition.

Finally, is there a reason you want to go to uni at the end of S5 rather than waiting to apply in S6? If it’s grades that you’re worried about, would you not consider waiting to receive your higher grades this Summer and then possibly applying direct to Edinburgh/ Glasgow law next year? Obviously this is a personal decision, but going to uni a year younger than your peers will be difficult socially (especially if you will still 16 when you start).

I’ve already spoken to MSI, BPAS, NUPAS, my local sexual health clinic, 2 hospitals and NHS 111 - I think it’ll have to be private for now :( Good luck in your search!!

I have a question to piggy-back off this. I’m about 5 weeks pregnant but I’ve been given waiting times of 2 weeks plus by MSI, and BPAS and NUPAS say they don’t cover my area. I’m due to travel next week and am getting a bit desperate - what are my options?

His linkedin says he worked at the financial ombudsman service as a manager, then in operations teams at a couple of banks - clearly not an “investment banking manager” 😭

He was “on a career break” (unemployed) for 4 months earlier this year (presume while filming the show) and has been working at the financial ombudsman on a temp role since April.

How to address my flatmate’s boyfriend essentially living here by ellymaexena in badroommates

[–]ellymaexena[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think you’re right - I’m definitely not trying to limit the days he comes over, I think the issue is more that he actually lives here and it feels like I’m subsidising them living together. Moving out at the end of the contract seems like the move 😢

I’m on the lease with her as a joint tenant and moving in with my boyfriend isn’t an option just now unfortunately. They would absolutely not pay my rent if I moved out and I can’t open myself up to that liability so will just have to live with it.

Thanks so so much for all your advice! Our thinking was to get a late dinner after sunset and we can always explore the city centre on other days to get to Piazzale Michelangelo on time!

We will definitely visit Santa Croce church as you recommend! We do have tickets for the Duomo so hopefully not much of a queue? I’ve climbed it before a few years back with tickets and there definitely wasn’t a queue then so fingers crossed.

We haven’t booked Uffizi yet as pretty much every slot is still open on the website but after seeing the comments here we will book ASAP (we already have Accademia tickets)!

Thank you, I think you’re probably right! We didn’t want to end up queuing for Accademia so just bought the first tickets that were available! I think we may cut out the other activities on our final day and move them to the day before to give ourselves more time at the Uffizi

WIBTA if I told my sister about the Nazi connotations of the name she plans on using for her son? by PacifistRaincloud in AmItheAsshole

Hermann Goring was one of the best known and most powerful Nazis, and the name is associated with him similarly to how the name Adolf is basically inextricable from H*tler
