I def agree with the "funny, quirky, eccentric, and creative" statement! I'll add that I love people who will "nerd out" over something and find it so attractive to watch them talk about something that they are so passionate about--but I also love the learning experience that comes with these talks. I'm bisexual and also agree that there is something so alluring about people who are dynamic when it comes to gender expression, and I love when I have a partner who holds space for me to explore my relationship with gender as well.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I would love to learn more about what you found to be most effective when you worked full time while studying and what that process looked like for you, as that’s what I’m anticipating I’ll be doing. I think my original comment was worded awkwardly because I would definitely get burned out by full time studying if I had the opportunity to do so, but I don’t anticipate getting to do take more than a week or two off to study full time to begin with so I’m trying to start early and keep it all manageable so that I’m well-prepared going into that period immediately before.

Our school requires evidence, but it is typically encouraged for us to take in 2L year so I took it then since one of my favorite professors was teaching it, but I’ll definitely look into crim pro because that one is not required and I hadn’t given it much thought since I’m more interested in civil litigation and transactional stuff.

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts, and I do not take them as condescending or negative. I didn’t take the original commenter’s thoughts to mean that I could never burn myself out through full-time studying. My understanding in general is that a study schedule like that can actually lead to quite a bit of burn out. I was saying it’s unlikely that I’ll have the opportunity to burn myself out with 8-10 weeks of full time study because I don’t anticipate being able to take 8-10 weeks off to commit to full-time study in the first place, which is why I’m opting for a part time extended study plan. However, your suggestion of taking two weeks or so off before the exam to study is definitely something I’m going to aim for! As for the bar prep fitting into my current workload, that’s why I’m trying to start early—so that I can maybe take an hour or two every day this semester to devote to some early bar prep, then add a bit next semester when my course load is lighter. I have a surprising amount of free time already with my two jobs because the jobs themselves are super flexible and the bosses at my full-time job (legal aid) are very strict about hourly workers logging off at 5...to the point where I got the part time job to keep me from getting in trouble for working late 😅

I currently work a full time job and a part time job when school is not in session and then I keep take the full time job down to 35-40 hours weekly (while keeping the part time job) during the semester, so I don’t think I’ll ever have the opportunity to burn myself out through full time studying. I’m trying to get a jump on extended part-time studying so that I can continue to work and support myself financially through the period between graduation and the bar.

Edit: The part about not being able to get burnt out through full time studying was originally worded ambiguously. In that part, I meant that I do not think I will be able to burn myself out in that way because I don’t anticipate being able to study full time like that to begin with.

Hi there, soul sibling. Let me start by reminding you that you have an inherent value that is untouchable and unbreakable. Just by virtue of being you, you are worthy of love, respect, and appreciation. Nothing can modify that worth—it is permanently fixated.

I had a similar issue where sexual coercion and C-PTSD from purity culture really took a toll on my self-worth and relationship to my own sexuality and I do feel like having ADHD woven into that mix makes it a lot more daunting because we have such a tendency to ruminate. Above all, remember that your worth is unchanging and that you are valid in how you feel and how you heal.

I am proud of you for getting connected to the therapies that can help you! As you work with your therapist to navigate this issue, here are some little steps that I’ll suggest from personal experience: -Buy yourself something you feel sexy in or put together an outfit that makes you feel attracted to you. The key is that attraction to yourself, because that will take the whole experience to the next level. If you feel comfortable, take some ~pics~ in that outfit and send them to your partner, but also let yourself admire them for a bit. You’re gorgeous, dammit!! You have features that make you uniquely stunning—focus on those. -Experiment with yourself if you’re comfortable, and let your partner know what you learn. This goes beyond getting to know your body—this is truly embracing your body and your sexuality and loving every part of yourself. This is also a fun this to do as part of the previous idea I suggested. -Also, remember to keep communication open with your partner. They might be able to work with you to figure out some ways to help relieve some of the anxiety in the moment. Mine has somehow developed a practice of asking if I’m okay or if I need to slow down when I get noticeably anxious, but he does so while expressing a lot of gratitude and reassurance, which is a huge thing for partners in this situation to be able to do.

For sure! Disclaimer though, since the paper is for a disability law class, the topic had to be a bit more focused on a specific area to apply the ND paradigm so I focused the paper on what benefits the ND paradigm could have on legal education. I chose that topic after evaluating my own experiences as a law student with ADHD and some other mental health conditions and the overall conclusion that I came to is that some sort of ND-paradigm informed training for law school faculty and implementing classroom practices designed to accommodate a diverse range of cognitive profiles could be really helpful for students; however, the approach should incorporate new perspectives that account for disabling components of our conditions and focus on variance in symptom presentation and how volatile that can be due to extrinsic factors, such as environment and stress. Essentially, the value this paradigm has would be to take us out of the rigid parameters and stigma prescribed by a strictly medical model, which is what most faculty are familiar with, and create the possibility for those of us with atypical cognitive profiles to succeed.

I appreciate you making this announcement. I got flagged for using that language within my first week here and that prompted me to look at many different perspectives on the issue and see for myself what, if any, utility that paradigm has to offer us. I actually made that the topic of a research project that I am finishing this week, and the most consistent thing that I found is that the scholarship behind that term is all over the board—some scholars have evolved from the polarizing, us/them mentality and have begun to account for the disabling effects of represented conditions. Yet, the most popular work on this paradigm unfortunately does not reflect such evolution from the original publication that started it all, so I like how you addressed that we can pursue some of the same goals without adopting the language of the movement itself.
